SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a 12-year-old skateboarder was hit by a car in Mira Mesa Monday night. According to police, the crash happened on Reagan Road near Calico Street before 6:30 p.m. Police say the 12-year-old was taken to the hospital with major head injuries. Traffic is closed in the area as police continue to investigate. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear. 442

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Rent isn't the only thing in San Diego on the rise - so are the costs and fees associated with it. A recent study from HotPads, a Zillow-owned site, says San Diegans can pay ,270 per year in overlooked costs and fees that come with moving. The includes security and pet deposits, pet rent and parking. The biggest chunk comes from the security deposit, which is typically one month's rent. In all, it works out to an additional 6 per month. "As rent prices continue to rise and rent affordability remains a concern, it is important for renters to consider all their potential expenses before planning a move," said Joshua Clark, economist at HotPads. "There's all kinds of things they might charge you for at move-in, so you want to be sure to check before you sign anything," she said. Steingrebe focuses largely on downtown, renting out privately owned condos. She says some buildings even require tenants hire move-in coordinators to make sure things go smoothly and not disturb other residents. Renters don't pay the HOA directly, but landlord's can pass along any sort of fines or violations they commit. "Unauthorized moves, these buildings downtown, you can't just walk in with your couch, you have to schedule it," Steingrebe said, adding dumping trash inappropriately can also lead to fines. The biggest financial issues that arise for renters come at the end of a lease, when it comes to getting a security deposit refunded, Steingrebe said. She said the best defense is to document with photos and text any damage or issues that occur throughout the year, starting with an initial move-in inspection. She said it's typical for landlords to deduct for carpet cleaning at the end of the lease. Renters can hire their own company to do it and leave the receipt, but if the job is sub-par, they could end up paying twice. Renters do have the right to use their property and not be charged for normal wear and tear. For instance, it's totally fine to nail a picture to the wall. Doing something bigger, however, such as a mounting a large TV to a wall, could lead to extra withdrawals from your security deposit. 2837

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County will expand enforcement efforts to track down businesses knowingly operating in violation of the current public health order.After a bit of a lengthy back and forth, the board of supervisors voted unanimously to expand the current enforcement team.Currently, the county’s newly developed Safe Reopening Compliance Team focuses on egregious cases, outbreaks, and complaints.There are only ten staff members presently on the team, 13 more will be added on during phase one to continue looking into egregious cases and outbreak investigations.A Healthy Compliance Call Center also went live, where members of the public can report violations of the public health order by calling (858) 694- 2900.Tuesday’s vote to include a phase two will add 22 staff members at .8 million to follow up with businesses or entities that are still operating in violation of the public health order.The funding will come from the CARES Act.Two other enforcement options were on the table for supervisors consider, but they were voted down by the majority.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer, has already sent several letters ordering businesses to close down until they comply with the order.A handful of gyms and churches in the county have stayed open inside despite being ordered to close or move their operations outdoors.This week the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office filed five misdemeanor charges against a Ramona gym owner for failing to comply. 1505

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting behind closed doors Thursday evening to discuss how to potentially keep businesses open after Gov. Gavin Newsom denied removing San Diego State’s COVID-19 cases from the county’s total case rate.The meeting, though, yielding no new actions by the county.In a statement, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said since the board took no action, "it would be inappropriate to comment on the deliberation.""In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California. We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact," Fletcher said.The county is now at risk of moving back to the most restrictive purple tier if the case rate is higher than 7.0 by next week. Currently, the county has had a case rate higher than that threshold for one week.“We were all really stunned and caught off guard yesterday during the governor’s press conference when he made a final decision on the SDSU cases,” said County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar.RELATED: Despite Newsom's dismissal, San Diego County wants SDSU's coronavirus cases nixed from case rateThe county had requested that the state remove SDSU’s more than 700 COVID-19 cases from the overall case rate to keep San Diego in the red tier. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans living in recreational vehicles will soon have an opportunity to find refuge in the city's newest safe parking lot, an expansion of the City's Safe Parking ProgramThe City-funded lot will be in Mission Valley, operated by Jewish Family Service.Right now, there are four safe parking lots, but only one allows RVs."No one told me life was going to be easy, ok? I understand that I get that concept, but can we get a break once in a while? Just a little break, that's how I looked at this. This was my break," said Jeff Tracy.Tracy is referring to the safe parking lot on Imperial Avenue which accommodates RVs; it's operated by Dreams for Change."Because you can't function and take care of your basic needs if you're worried about your basic needs."Tracy's life forever changed seven years ago when a drunk driver crashed into the vehicle he was in with his wife and daughter. Tracy was the only one who survived, and he lost one of his legs. He's been struggling ever since. "It's a very learning process being homeless, and I don't like it, and I know most people don't, it's a hard life."Some RV owners like Tracy worry they'll have to move their RV during the day if they're moved to the new parking lot. He not only has to get his wheelchair in and out of the RV but says the cost of gas would be astronomical. "Expensive, hard, it's stressful, because now I've got to move it and where am I going to move it to? I've got to pull over here to some resident again, and they're going to get upset, I don't want to upset people," said Tracy.Tracy says the Safe Parking Program has given him a place to feel safe while he tries to plan for a better future.
