SAN FRANCISCO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Apple Inc. plans to introduce a new iPhone in September featuring faster chip and more advanced camera, U.S. media reported on Wednesday.The new iPhone model, which will closely resemble iPhone 4, will include the A5 processor, a more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 tablet computer earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4, Bloomberg quoted two people familiar with the product as saying.The device will run the iOS 5 operating system Apple previewed at its annual developer conference earlier this month.Aiming at attracting customers in developing countries, Apple is also working to finish a cheaper version of the iPhone which will use chips and displays of similar quality to the current iPhone 4, said the sources.Meanwhile, it was reported that Apple is also testing a new version of the iPad with a higher resolution screen, which, similar to the one currently used on iPhone 4, will be about one- third higher than iPad 2 and feature a more responsive touchscreen.According to a recent projection on smartphone market by the International Data Corp. GENEVA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Two million people worldwide are estimated to die from air pollution each year, the Geneva based World Health Organization (WHO) said in its air quality report published on Monday.According to data collected by the WHO from nearly 1,100 cities across 91 countries, elevated level of fine particle pollution, which could cause heart diseases, lung cancer, asthma and acute lower reparatory infections, are common across many urban areas, with some cities registering fine particle pollution levels 15 times as much as the WHO guidelines.For both developed and developing countries, the biggest contributors to urban outdoor air pollution include motor transport, small-scale manufacturers and other industries, burning of biomass and coal for cooking and heating, as well as coal-fired power plants.Residential wood and coal burning for space heating is said to be an important contributor to air pollution, especially in rural areas during colder months, the WHO report said.

TAIYUAN, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical university will join hands with the Massey University of New Zealand to set up a community clinic specializing in chronic diseases in north China's Shanxi Province.The community clinic in Taiyuan, the provincial capital city, will provide medical services to more than 7,500 residents in the city's Hanxiguandong community, Ma Qianjin, vice president of the Shanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said on Friday.Residents will be able to seek advice from both Chinese and New Zealand experts on how to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes, said Ma.The clinic, which is expected to open this year, will also provide residents with free health check-ups and create health records for them.Bruce Ullrich, a Massey University board member, said on Friday that the clinic will integrate Western service with traditional Chinese medical techniques in its prevention and treatment of chronic diseases."The community clinic will mainly focus on people with obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases. BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- European anti-trust regulators Monday launched in-depth probes into takeover bids for two Asian companies by two American peers in the computer hard disk drive sector, media reports said Tuesday.U.S.-based Seagate Technology has said it wants to buy Samsung Electronics Co's loss-making hard disk drive unit for 1.4 billion U.S. dollars -- a deal that will give Seagate access to Samsung's NAND-type flash chips for its solid-state drive products.Western Digital plans to purchase Hitachi Ltd's hard disk drive business for 4.3 billion dollars to give it an edge in developing next-generation storage technology.The two planned acquisitions in a sector with just five manufacturers worldwide have raised concerns in Brussels, the European Commission said."Hard drives are the backbone of the digital economy," said EU competition commissioner Joaquin Almunia in announcing the investigation."The sector has already experienced significant consolidation and the proposed acquisitions will further reduce competition."Brussels officials have until Oct. 10 to decide what action if any they will take.
