A second Florida city paid thousands of dollars to ransomware attackers who hacked their computer systems -- the latest in a growing trend that forces local governments offline.Officials from Lake City agreed Tuesday to pay 42 bitcoin, roughly 6,000, to hackers who seized the city's computer systems June 10, ending a 15-day standoff. It's the second city in Florida to fall prey to ransomware attackers this summer: On June 19, Riviera Beach officials voted to pay their requested ransom of 65 bitcoin, close to 0,000, to hackers who disabled the city's online services in late May.Lake City police said the city paid a ,000 deductible to its insurance company, which will cover the rest of the ransom. In a statement, the city called the attack a "triple threat," a ransomware program that attacked the city's network three different ways and took out email systems, landline phones and online credit card payment.Cyber attacks on government are growingRansomware attacks have spiked since 2016, hijacking the computer systems of government entities like cities, police departments and schools. It's a unique type of cyberattack: Hackers encrypt all files on the systems and demand payment, usually in bitcoin, to restore them.Ahead of attacks on Lake City and Riviera Beach, there were at least 22 reported breaches of public sector networks in 2019, CNN reported in May.Populous cities like Baltimore, Albany and Atlanta have all combated ransomware attacks that forced them to perform municipal services manually.Complete recovery of a city's systems can take up to several weeks and cost cities millions more than the agreed ransom -- a combined cyberattack on Atlanta and Newark cost more than million in damages.Lake City officials did not return multiple requests for comment.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. ALLENDALE, Mich. — Hundreds of dollars in school lunch debt in Allendale, Michigan, is about to be paid off in full. That's thanks to a mom teaching her kids the value of charity and a local business who stepped in to help.Aaron Haight says she wants her children to learn to be a blessing whenever possible and that you can do that in many different ways."I wanted to give back to the community, but I also wanted to teach my kids kind of about their privilege and how important it is to give back when you are in a place of privilege," Haight said. That’s why, a few years ago, Haight's family started fundraising to pay off hundreds of dollars in school lunch debt for Allendale Public Schools."Every year, we worked with Jody who is the director of food service at Allendale Public Schools, and she would kind of tell us about how much money we needed to raise and we would raise it through friends and family and some local businesses contributed throughout the year," she explained. That was the plan again this year. That is until Trail Point Brewing Company in Allendale stepped in and pledged to pay the debt in full.Co-owner Greg Evans says he was inspired when the Mitten Brewing and Fetch Brewing did something similar.Evans said, "It's something that really hit home to me. There are kids in this area that are saddled with school debt, and we try to pride ourselves on being a community center."He explained, "This was one way we could give back to the community by clearing this lunch debt so it's one less thing that they have to worry about."Haight says it goes to show what a giving community Allendale is."I think in Allendale we're just very fortunate that we do have a lot of smaller local businesses that have been very generous with their time and their money with giving back to the community, and this is just another example of that," she said.Haight says the debt is usually about 0, but they won’t know the total until the school year ends next June. This article was written by Darren Cunningham for 2041

After voters in three states went to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in the 2020 Democratic nominating race, former Vice President Joe Biden took another giant leap toward becoming the Democrats' 2020 standard-bearer. The results of Tuesday's three-state primary will help Biden expand his lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders. The former vice president is projected to win the primaries on Tuesday in Arizona, Florida and Illinois. As votes were tabulated on Tuesday, Biden made a pitch to Sanders supporters, whom he'll need to win over in order to become president. "Senator Sanders and I may disagree on tactics, but we share a common vision — for the need to provide affordable health care for all Americans to reducing income inequality to taking on climate change," Biden said."Senator Sanders and his supporters have brought remarkable passion and tenacity to these issues, and together, they have shifted the fundamental conversation in the country."Sanders opted to speak earlier in the evening, addressing his plans on addressing the coronavirus crisis. As far as Sanders' plans moving forward, that is unknown. Both Sanders and Biden have been off the campaign trail for the last week, opting to host virtual town hall events for supporters. Sanders has used large rallies to create buzz for his campaign. With 93% of the vote in from Florida, Biden is winning with 61% of the vote, compared to 22% for Sen. Bernie Sanders. Biden also has a substantial lead in Illinois, up 59-36 over Sanders with 76% of the vote in. Biden has now won 19 states. A total of 441 delegates up for grabs on Tuesday between the states of Arizona, Florida and Illinois.Last night, Ohio announced it is postponing its presidential primary amid fears of the spread of coronavirus. Biden entered Tuesday with 898 delegates as Sen. Bernie Sanders trails with 745 delegates. To win the nomination, 1,991 delegates are required. 1922

After last week's freak incident that involved a flame effect malfunctioning before a Tennessee Titans, the NFL has told its teams not to use on-field pyro this week, ESPN reported. Before last Sunday's game at Nissan Stadium, a machine that produces flames burst into an uncontrolled fire. It took officials using fire extinguishers and sand to put out the fire. The fire also burned the grass along one of the sidelines. The ban does not prohibit teams from setting off fireworks into the air or using flame effects away from the field. 552
