CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Eastlake are frustrated with a plan to develop a storage facility near their homes. The proposed location is in an empty space between Eastlake High School and Antigua, a gated community of townhomes. The facility would be a recreational storage facility, for boats, cars and containers. The City of Chula Vista's planning department would have to approve the proposal. Homeowners are hoping they don't. Neighbors like Carmen Bermen say the plans are going to lower their property values and attract the wrong crowd. On Saturday, they started posting warning flyers around their community to warn other neighbors. Bermen was the first homeowner to notice the plans. She says the city had sent out two notices in 2016. The last notice arrived on Thanksgiving week. 10News obtained a copy of that notice letting homeowners know they had until November 26th to send in any written comments or petitions. The vote would take place on November 27th. After emailing the city, residents say officials told them they'd have a public hearing in January on the issue, instead of voting on it in closed session. 10News reached out to the city for comment on this issue, a spokesperson told us it's up to the planning department to put the item on the agenda for the community to go and express their concerns during public comment. CINCINNATI — A group of images meant to sell matching sets of Macy's festive family pajamas migrated onto Twitter this week, where they were presented as part of the company's holiday ad campaign and criticized for their depiction of the group's only black family. The images appear to depict four separate families: Two mixed-race, one all-white (with a fluctuating number of children, depending on the picture) and one all-black. The all-black family is the only one depicted with a single parent -- a mother with three sons. Some, including online activist Tariq Nasheed and Cincinnati Councilman Jeff Pastor, felt the picture played on stereotypes of black families, single mothers and what a Washington Post columnist once called "the dangerous myth of the missing black father." 807

(KGTV) -- The mother of a South Bay teen says her 16-year-old son had a disturbing encounter at a store parking lot in Eastlake.Suher Haidar said a man offered her son money for a sexual act as her son was leaving the Walmart on Eastlake Parkway on Monday."It's just gross," Haidar said. "That's the only way I can explain it."She said her son was walking to his car in the store parking lot when a man in a pickup truck waved him down to get his attention. He was trying to make small talk when the conversation shifted to the disturbing proposition. That's when her son pulled out his phone and recorded the encounter. The man drove away after her son began yelling at him and recording him."My son was just disgusted, and he did what he had to do," Haidar said. "His father and I are really proud of him for standing up for himself and being quick to pull out his phone."She posted her son's video on social media, and several people have commented to say the same person tried to start a conversation with their teenage sons.The Chula Vista Police Department says they are investigating the incident. (KGTV) -- A beloved South Bay preschool director is being remembered as someone who always made others feel special.Aaron Partch was a co-director at Concordia Preschool in Chula Vista. He passed away September 15th.A virtual memorial for him was held Saturday.Like many other schools, Concordia closed in March during the pandemic. A couple months after the school closure, Partch was diagnosed with grade four glioblastoma. He had undergone brain surgery and was receiving treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. In mid-September, Partch passed away suddenly from a heart attack.“God took our warrior up to heaven where he no doubt is singing and dancing with the angels,” his family wrote online.His co-workers said his energy will be missed.“He knows everybody by name. His greetings were always extremely cheerful, but sincere. When he asked you how your day was, he wanted to know,” said preschool teacher Meagan Lee, who worked with Partch for the last two years. “I think it’s really hard for all of us to walk down the halls and know he’s not going to be there with us.”Partch had been with Concordia Preschool for more than ten years. Nearby schools also remembered him.“If you knew him, you knew what a loss this is not just for Concordia, but for our community as well. Aaron was one of those people who lit up a room. He filled every moment with happiness and joy, and he was such a great leader to his students,” the Enrique Camarena PTA wrote on Facebook.Partch was 51 years old. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating after a man died while in the agency’s custody. According to ICE, the 37-year-old Cameroon man, identified as Nebane Abienwi, died at Sharp’s Chula Vista Medical Center Tuesday. Abienwi was taken to the hospital in the middle of the night on September 26 to undergo treatment for a brain hemorrhage. According to the agency, medical staff at the center provided treatment after Abienwi remained unresponsive to questions and appeared to be paralyzed on his left side. He remained in the hospital until his death. According to records, Abienwi applied for entry into the U.S. without proper entry documents on September 5.
