Uber doesn't plan to renew its self-driving vehicle permit in California.The news comes less than two weeks after a self-driving Uber SUV struck and killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she walked her bicycle across a street in Tempe, Arizona. After the tragedy, the company halted testing of its self-driving cars on roads in North America.Uber's self-driving permit in California goes until March 31 -- and the company said it will let the permit expire."We decided to not reapply for a California DMV permit with the understanding that our self-driving vehicles would not operate on public roads in the immediate future," an Uber spokesperson said in a statement to CNN on Tuesday.Uber's statement comes after several news outlets, including CNN, obtained a letter sent by DMV deputy director and chief counsel Brian Soublet to Uber's public affairs manager, Austin Heyworth on Tuesday regarding its permit.Soublet wrote that if and when Uber applies for a new autonomous vehicle testing permit, it will "need to address any follow-up analysis or investigations from the recent crash in Arizona an may also require a meeting with the department."The news of the letter was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.The Tempe Police Department and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the crash.Last week, Boston's government asked self-driving companies operating in the city to halt operations while safety procedures are reviewed. Unions representing about 35,000 Disney World workers say Disney is refusing to pay their members ,000 tax cut bonuses.Disney announced the ,000 bonuses last month for 125,000 U.S. employees. The company said at that time that the bonuses would go to full and part-time employees, including those represented by unions "currently working under existing union contracts."But the union members at Disney World are in the midst of contract negotiations. They say rank-and-file workers in December voted 93% against Disney's most recent offer of a 50-cent-an-hour raise over the next two years, coupled with a 0 signing bonus. Most unionized Disney World employees make less than an hour, according to the union.Only 3,000 make more than an hour. The union says the average hourly wage for its members is .71.Eric Clinton, president of the Unite Here local at the theme park, said Disney is forcing the union to accept that same rejected offer for its members to receive the ,000 bonus due to other Disney employees."In other words Disney said you can have ,000 if you agree to stay poor," he said in a video statement posted on the union's Facebook page. She overdosed while her son was in the backseat and it took four shots of Narcan to bring her back. To make things worse, she found her mother dead of a drug overdose in 2015.Rock bottom hit when the state took custody of her son for several months.But a new program at the Union County Health Department stepped in with hope."I thought they were full of (it)," Fairchild said. "I thought it was a bunch of talk. What is this little device, how's it going to make me feel any better?"Kaylin now has custody of her son and attends group meetings with the help of the device.Tom Schulte, who took painkillers because of knee injuries, says The Bridge helped him get to a life where he's no longer dependent on pills. "I couldn't hold a job," Schulte said. Phil Scott on Wednesday signed sweeping gun control measures -- including limits on the size of magazines -- that the Legislature passed last month after contentious debate.The measures:-- Raise the minimum age for gun buyers to 21;-- Ban bump stocks, which allow semiautomatic weapons to fire more rapidly;-- Require all gun transactions to be facilitated by a licensed dealer who would perform background checks, except for law enforcement or military members acting within their duties, or for gun transfers between immediate family members;-- Limit rifle magazines to 10 rounds.State residents will be permitted to keep larger-capacity magazines they already own.As he signed the measures, Scott, a Republican, called himself a Second Amendment supporter who owns guns and has hunted his whole life. UNIVERSITY CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - A car crashed into a veterinary clinic near La Jolla Friday night. No people or animals were injured when a car plowed into the building on Town Center Dr. at 9:30 p.m. San Diego Fire Department says the driver told them he accidentally drove into the the front of the Cote Animal Hospital. There was a staffer inside the vet hospital with animals when it happened. The 75-year-old male driver got out of the car himself and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. 513
