Universal's Volcano Bay water theme park closed Sunday, June 2 after lifeguards and people swimming in one of the attractions reported shocks so severe they feared for their lives.Universal admits it suffered electrical issues, confirming what guests reported."It's like I ran into, I guess, an electrical field. I started experiencing the tingling and prickling burning in my legs at first I thought it was a chemical," park goer Wendy Lee said.Lee was at the park right when it opened at 9 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. She was with her husband and 14-year-old daughter to celebrate her graduation from middle school. What was supposed to be a day full of fun lasted only 30 minutes. According to a Universal Orlando Resort report provided by Lee, she was checked out by paramedics at 9:36 a.m. The paramedic reporting the cause of her injuries was "electric shock."Lee was at the Kopiko Wei Winding River when she first noticed something was wrong."There was another family in front of me and all of a sudden they started going over the wall to get out of the water," Lee recalled. "The discomfort of the prickles in my legs and the humming in my ears stopped, I believe, as soon as I got out of the pool."Volcano Bay reopened Thursday. A representative for the park said guests felt shocks and other similar sensations.A small number of lifeguards said they also had the same sensations and asked to go to the hospital, but they were quickly released, officials said.Officials said none of the park's guests asked to go to the hospital and the entire park was closed "out of an abundance of caution."Park officials believe the issue has been resolved, according to a news release. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed it has launched an investigation. Park officials said OSHA investigators were at the park Wednesday."We know it is disturbing to feel any level of shock in a water park," the release states. "We definitely understand and want you to know that the safety — and trust — of our guests and team members is vital to us. Everything we do is motivated by their safety. And that was the case on Sunday.""I think they did a terrible job they did not take people's safety into account," Lee said. "My incident took place at 9:30 in the morning. They didn't close the park until 6 that night. If you don't know where the problem is from the get-go, you close everything, and you narrow it down. I don't think it was handled safely at all."Lee says until federal authorities clear the park, she won't be going back."I wouldn't discourage anyone from going," Lee said. "You have the right to know there is a potential problem, and with their initial statement of it being a technical issue that was not fair to the public to hide all that." 2787

WASHINGTON — Comedians are making their return to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after last year's hiatus. Kenan Thompson, the actor and longest-tenured “Saturday Night Live” cast member, will host this year’s dinner, which takes place April 25. Hasan Minhaj, the Peabody award-winning host of Netflix’s “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,” will return to the dinner as a featured entertainer.“Kenan and Hasan are two of the most engaged and engaging entertainers in America. I’m thrilled they’ll help us celebrate the role of a free press in our democracy,” said Jonathan Karl, Chief White House Correspondent for ABC News and president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. “We’re looking forward to a lively evening honoring the most important political journalism of the past year.” The WHCA will be presenting two new awards at the 2020 dinner: The Katharine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability and the Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists. Those new awards are in addition to the longstanding Aldo Beckman Award for Overall Excellence in White House Coverage and Merriman Smith Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure.WHCA says the dinner is non-partisan event that supports the organization's work to protect the role of independent news media coverage of the president. Proceeds from the event fund the WHCA’s operating expenses and go toward scholarships and awards aimed at promoting aspiring journalists and recognizing excellence in the journalism profession.President Donald Trump has skipped the dinner throughout his presidency and instead has elected to hold campaign rallies. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether the president would attend this year. 1818

US authorities are no longer holding migrants under a border bridge here. But advocates say some children and families who US Customs and Border Protection detained for days in the fenced-in space were shaken once they were released from custody.Bruises were visible on toddlers and older children who had to lay on rocks and concrete, said Taylor Levy, legal coordinator at Annunciation House. The El Paso-based shelter is a frequent stopping point for migrants who've been released from government custody. Migrants who'd been held under the bridge told staff there they'd been held from three to five days and "treated worse than dogs," Levy said.Photos and videos from the scene appeared to show migrant families sitting and at times sleeping on the gravel, with only thin space blankets between them and the ground."It was horrible there, because we slept under the bridge on top of the gravel," said Bartolo Tadeo Gómez, 25, who spent four nights under the bridge with his 7-year-old son. "There was a lot of dust."They struggled to stay warm without blankets, he said. And the whole time, Tadeo said, he worried about his son, who seemed sick and wasn't eating."I was afraid he would die," Tadeo told CNN.Last week, US authorities said a rapid influx of migrants crossing the border forced them to use the space under the Paso del Norte border bridge as an emergency measure in the face of a humanitarian crisis. They described a tent set up under the bridge as a "transitional shelter" for migrants who had yet to be processed.CBP officials say caring for those in custody with dignity and respect is a paramount concern.Advocates accuse CBP officials of worsening the humanitarian crisis at the border, rather than helping it.Over the weekend, the 1767
