BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Qiushi, or "Seeking Truth," the official magazine of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee will publish an article by Vice President Xi Jinping on improving official writing or speech styles.The article will appear in the latest issue of Qiushi on Sunday.At an opening of the CPC Central Committee Party School's spring semester held on Wednesday in Beijing, Xi told more than 900 officials and new student cadres that they must eradicate "empty words" and political jargon from their speeches and documents.He also urged Party leaders to learn "colloquial wisdom" from the public and make their speeches and articles more easily understood by common people.

BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China's disciplinary watchdog has released a set of rules outlining punishment for Party members in leading positions meddling in the real estate industry, in an effort to uproot corruption in the field.The rules, issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), say "meddling in construction-related fields" refers to officials abusing their power by directly or indirectly asking departments to affect construction projects' normal procedures.Such acts include meddling in projects' decision-making process, public bidding and approval of transfer of land use.The construction sector is susceptible to corruption. Many officials have stepped down after being caught colluding with business owners and real estate developers.

WASHINGTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- World Bank member countries reached an agreement on Sunday to shift more power to emerging and developing nations, under which China's votes increased to 4.42 percent from 2.77 percent, making it the third largest voting power holder in the Washington-based international institution.In total, the World Bank approved a 3.13-percentage-point increase in the voting power of the Developing and Transition Countries (DTCs), making it 47.19 percent now and representing a total increase of 4.59 percentage points for the DTCs since 2008."This increase fulfills the Development Committee commitment in Istanbul in October 2009 to generate a significant increase of at least 3 percentage points in DTC voting power," said the World Bank in a statement.Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren (C, Front) and other participants pose for a group photo prior to the IMF-World Bank Development Committee meeting in Washington April 25, 2010.After a first phase of reforms agreed in 2008, developing countries have an around-44-percent share in the World Bank.At the Pittsburgh G20 summit in September 2009 and the Istanbul Development Committee meeting in October 2009, the bank's shareholders agreed to raise the voting rights to at least 47 percent for developing and transition countries."We were just pleased that we are getting close to reflecting China's increasing share in world economy, and that is reflected in edited voting share," World Bank President Robert Zoellick told Xinhua after the Development Committee meeting."Today was a good day for multilateralism," said Zoellick. " This shift of shares is agreed by our shareholders. They try to recognize the change in the world economy and include the contribution to the development in the methods, which can encourage developing countries in transition."

  

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said Tuesday China must accelerate its transformation of economic growth pattern as the global economy was undergoing structural changes.Li made the remark when he met with members of the International Advisory Council of the China Development Bank (CDB) in Beijing.Li briefed the advisory council members about China's economic situation and its macro-economic policy.He said China had to advance its economic restructuring while continuing the process of reform and opening, to improve people's livelihoods and to enhance the vitality, competitiveness and sustainability of the economy. Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (front L) meets with members of the International Advisory Council of the China Development Bank (CDB) in Beijing May 25, 2010.Li said the world economic recovery was still fragile and faced a great deal of instability and uncertainty. It consists of notable figures from political, financial and academic circles around the world, including former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating.The advisory council members were in Beijing for an annual meeting focusing on global economic and financial situation, the international financial crisis and the CDB's role in economic recovery.During the meeting with Li, Keating relayed his appreciation of China's success in maintaining stable and fast paced economic growth and contributing to the recovery of world economy.Keating said over the years, the advisory council members had come to realize that the CDB was a rare and valuable institution. He expressed willingness to further expand links between the CDB and institutions outside of China.

  

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People' s Republic of Korea (DPRK) during Kim' s unofficial visit to China.Wen said he received warm welcome from the DPRK party, government and people during his visit to the DPRK last October, and the joint celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-DPRK diplomatic ties left him good impression.Currently, China and the DPRK are witnessing active exchanges and cooperation in various fields and Kim' s visit will definitely help further deepen traditional friendship between the two parties, countries and peoples, Wen said.Wen said China will, as always, support the DPRK for developing economy and improving people' s livelihood and is willing to introduce to the DPRK the experience of China' s reform and opening-up and construction.China and the DPRK enjoy big potential for developing economic and trade cooperation, said Wen, urging the two sides to make joint efforts to advance major cooperative projects, quicken the infrastructure construction in border areas and explore new cooperative fields and methods so as to benefit the two peoples, said Wen.Recalling Premier Wen' s successful visit to the DPRK last year, Kim said the DPRK-China cooperation in such areas as trade, agriculture, science and technology is of great significance for promoting bilateral traditional relationship.The DPRK will work with China to enhance communication and coordination to make pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries to score more significant achievements.At the invitation of Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, Kim paid an unofficial visit to China from May 3 to 7.
