A crew member of Fly Jamaica Airways has been arrested for attempting to smuggle cocaine into the United States, according to a statement by the US Customs and Border Protection.The drugs were discovered after the man was escorted into a private search room at JFK International Airport in New York on March 17, the statement said. His flight had arrived from Montego Bay, Jamaica.Federal agents said they discovered four packages taped to his legs. Nine pounds of cocaine was seized, with a reported street value of 0,000.Photos released by the CBP show the suspect, in his airline uniform, with pants pulled down and white tape around his thighs and ankle.The suspect has been charged with federal narcotics smuggling and will be prosecuted by the US Attorney's Office.  788

A lost Purple Heart award returned home on Wednesday. Tucson Police say one of their officers recovered a Purple Heart award from a local pawn store several months ago. But with the help of Purple Heart Reunited, they were able to track down the owner of the award and his family.The award belongs to Colonel Leon Elie Lyon. TPD held a ceremony today to return the Purple Heart to the family. Officer Jim Caccavale from TPD presented the Purple Heart to the recipient's grandson, Glen Lyon. There was also a representative from Purple Hearts Reunited. Lyon entered active duty on May 8, 1917 during World War I as an Engineer Officer. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in science in 1894. After one month serving in WWI, he was promoted to Major and 13 days after that, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. During his service in France, Lyon was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He survived the war and was honorably discharged on Oct. 15th, 1919. He entered service again less than a year later and served until the early 1940's, making the rank of Colonel in 1942.Colonel Lyon married Emily Cornelia Knapp Lyon in 1907. She died young in 1938. The couple had one child, Oliver Day Lyon. Oliver served as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and saw service in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Colonel Leon E. Lyon passed away on Dec. 9, 1943. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  1452

A Democratic candidate in Wisconsin's gubernatorial race released a campaign ad showing her breastfeeding while detailing her efforts to ban the use of Bisphenol A in baby bottles and sippy cups in the state.In the ad, Kelda Roys talks about her effort to pass legislation that prohibited the use of the chemical, known as BPA, while she was in the state Assembly; as she describes her legislative activities, her husband hands their daughter to her and she begins to breastfeed.BPA is used in plastics for consumer product packaging and resin for can linings.Roys was a state lawmaker from 2009 to 2013 and served as Democratic caucus chair. In her gubernatorial campaign, she is advocating universal paid family and sick leave, equal pay for women, a minimum wage, widely expanded health care access, and full access to reproductive care for women.This isn't the first time that candidates have employed bold moves in campaign ads as a strategy. Tom Perriello, a Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia last year, stood in front of an ambulance being crushed, saying it was a metaphor for the House GOP passing a bill to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. A large sports complex that was being used to shelter more than 5,000 migrants in Tijuana has been closed "due to health issues," according to Mexican officials.Pictures posted to the Facebook page of the Tijuana mayor's office showed officials with face masks cordoning off the entrance of the Benito Juarez Sports Complex on Friday.The complex, which had become Tijuana's main facility for sheltering migrants trying to reach the US border, was closed "due to the poor sanitary conditions," a statement from the office of Tijuana's mayor, Juan Manuel Gastélum read.CNN crews visiting the complex last week found squalid conditions, including open sewage drains.Rodolfo Olimpo, a representative from Baja California state's Special Committee on Migration Issues, told CNN last week the complex was more than three times over its capacity.Since Thursday, Mexican officials have been transferring migrants from the complex to a new shelter that is further away from the border in the eastern part of the city in an area known as El Barretal.Most of the migrants staying at the complex had left as of Sunday, but CNN crews there observed several dozen migrants staying in tents outside the gate. 1201

A group of siblings are back together after being separated in foster care.A Texas couple with three biological children officially adopted the five siblings over a Zoom call in May, doubling the size of their family.Andi Bonura says she and her husband, Thomas, had been wanting to adopt after years of pregnancy issues. Their three existing children, Joey, Sadie and Daphne, were born premature. They also lost one child during a pregnancy and another died in the NICU.So, in 2017, the couple got licensed to become foster parents. Their first foster child was Bryson, who is now 2 years old. The couple then began fostering two of Bryson’s older siblings, David and Gabrielle.Eventually, the two final siblings, Thomas and Carter, started visiting the Bonura home and asked if they could also come live with them, according to Bonura.Bonura says that one day, she got a call saying their foster children’s biological parents were terminating their rights to the kids and they were given the option to adopt them. They said yes.Bonura says finally adopting the children was so freeing and felt wonderful.“We had been working so hard for years to get them all together, to bond as a family and it just feels so amazing to all of us, knowing we are a family, finally,” said Bonura.If you’re considering becoming a foster parent or adopting, Bonura says to do it if you can.“It will be the single most important and meaningful thing in your life,” she said. “The struggles to get to the place, your goal, is worth every tear.
