"I think this is just everything for this community, right now we're really the only ones investing down here in the South Bay, in Chula Vista," says Matt Teichner, Sharp Chula Vista Senior Project Manager."Everyone who comes in here gets seen regardless of your ability to pay, we see people from both sides of the border here, and we are just full to the brim every day right now."It will be the first new hospital in San Diego's South Bay in more than 40 years.Planners say patient safety and infection control was the number one factor when designing the new hospital. The new hospital features advanced operating rooms as well as innovative technologies. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed before crashing into the side of a building in Chula Vista Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the initial call came in around noon as a drunk driver. Witnesses reported seeing a man in a tan SUV slumped over and followed him.Police say the SUV then slammed into a gate and crashed into the side of a self-storage building traveling roughly 10 to 15 miles per hour on Industrial Boulevard near L Street.When police arrived, they discovered that the man was dead inside the vehicle. Police confirmed later in the day Wednesday that the man was shot. Shortly before the crash, witnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots. Investigators are currently working to get surveillance video from the self-storage facility. Police are also asking that anyone with information on a possible suspect contact them.  932

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Facing a nearly million budget shortfall, the superintendent of Sweetwater Union High School District revealed a proposal Friday to issue more than 230 layoff notices to teachers and staff and eliminate a program that helps struggling students graduate.According to agenda documents posted Friday afternoon, Dr. Karen Janney will ask the Board of Trustees to eliminate 237 positions, including 182 teachers and all 23 librarians.Sweetwater’s financial woes came to light in 2018 after the district miscalculated its budget by million.RELATED: Sweetwater Union High School District approves interim budget with million shortfall“To see financial ineptitude affect people’s lives this way, it’s devastating,” said Sweetwater Education Association Vice President Cesar Fernandez. “It’s a kick in the gut. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after four brush fires were set within minutes of each other Thursday morning.Firefighters responded around 3:30 a.m. to the area south of Lake Crest Drive and east of Wueste Road in Eastlake.While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a second fire call nearly three miles away on Eastlake Parkway.The third brush fire happened a short time after on Telegraph Canyon Road, and then the fourth fire broke out near Vista Oak Place.No one was hurt, and firefighters were able to put out all the fires.Witnesses told fire investigators they saw a silver Lexus leaving the scene of the fourth fire around 4:15 a.m.Anyone with information on the suspected arsonist or the incidents is asked to contact the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) at 619-236-6815. 850
