If you have a newer model you hold the side button and one of the volume buttons. If you have an older model, you press the side button five times in a row. You slide it, and a call goes straight to your local emergency dispatch.Agent Dutch Smith with the Lakewood Police Department says this type of technology can be very helpful. When the service is used, the person does not have to say a word, and it shows the dispatcher the number and most importantly, the location."We can do triangulation to try and find out where you live," Smith said. "So basically what you're doing is you're pinging off the cell towers to find out exactly where the call came from."From there, your information is automatically sent to law enforcement on the ground closest to you, so they can head out to help."It may be a life or death situation involving where you need police response," Agent Smith said. "Location is paramount for us to be able to get there in a timely fashion to be able to deal with whatever has been called in."When the call ends, it even sends a text to your emergency contacts. But dispatchers ask that you only use this tool when you really need help, not to test it out.Taking the phone beyond a tool that helps you in every facet of life, to one that could help law enforcement potentially save it."I think it's two fold," Agent Smith said. "It really can help us all out."Samsung's Galaxy Android phone has a similar emergency mode, but you need to set it up by going into settings section, and "privacy and security." In the midst of a political battle over funding for the United States Postal Service, it appears the Department of Veterans Affairs has been looking into alternative delivery services.A veterans group called Disabled Vets of America posted a statement to their website explaining the situation, after they had approached the VA about concerns their members had shared.“The VA has now confirmed to us that the United States Postal Service (USPS), which is responsible for delivering about 90% of all VA mail order prescriptions, has indeed been delayed in delivering these critical medications by an average of almost 25% over the past year, with many locations experiencing much more significant delays,” the statement posted to the DAV’s website states.The VA acknowledged it was looking into delivery services outside the USPS in an email exchange with the DAV, according to CNN.“To help mitigate these postal delays, the VA has been forced to switch to alternative delivery services in a number of areas across the country and is taking other actions to expedite processing and delivery of prescriptions,” the statement from DAV reads.The VA has had an increase in demand for mail-order prescriptions during the coronavirus pandemic, they told CNN. Explaining that the VA has always used a “variety of prescription delivery methods to ensure timely delivery.”Spokesperson Christina Noel said they monitor prescription delivery times throughout the country. 1467

It's the unofficial start of summer as swimming pools, beaches and amusement parks flood with travelers for the Memorial Day Weekend, but there is one thing that might deter travelers this year. The price of gas is at its highest levels in four years, says AAA, but the sudden increase in gas does not mean that everyone will have a more expensive trip. AAA says that airfare is down 7 percent from Memorial Day Weekend of 2017 for the top domestic routes. Rental car rates are also 11 percent lower this year. AAA affiliated hotels are also showing upwards of a 14 percent savings from last year. Overall, 41.5 million Americans are expected to travel this Memorial Day Weekend, which is up nearly 5 percent. Even with gas up 56 cents nationwide from last year, AAA expects a 4.7 percent increase in the number of travelers by car.“The highest gas prices since 2014 won’t keep travelers home this Memorial Day weekend,” said Bill Sutherland, senior vice president, AAA Travel and Publishing. “A strong economy and growing consumer confidence are giving Americans all the motivation they need to kick off what we expect to be a busy summer travel season with a Memorial Day getaway.”If traveling by car, you'll find the cheapest gas in the South and Southern Plains. Investigators have found evidence that a missing University of Iowa student was doing homework on her laptop the night she went missing, according to the woman's brother.Mollie Tibbets, 20, went missing on July 18 when she went jogging near Brooklyn, Iowa. TIbbets' brother, Jake, says investigators found that evidence that she was on her laptop that evening.The older brother of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts says investigators told him evidence shows she was doing homework on her computer last Wednesday evening. Tibbets was reportedly dog-sitting for her boyfriend, Jack Dalton, at the time of her disappearance. It is unclear if she returned after her jog, but the new details, family members say it is possible she did. Investigators previously executed a search warrant for Tibbits' Fitbit and social media accounts. A spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations said Tibbets' case may be the first time Fitbit data has been used in an investigation in the state.  1043
