The Chardon (Ohio) Fire Department is investigating a school bus that was on fire overnight in the district's bus lot.Shortly after 5 a.m. on Thursday, an employee arrived at 355 Maple Avenue, where the bus lot is located, and noticed a bus had been burned in a fire. As a precaution, the fire department extinguished any hot spots. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but they said they believe it was set intentionally.A few other buses were parked nearby the burned bus, but they appeared unscathed.   575

The Farmers’ Almanac has released its wintertime forecast for 2020-21 on Monday, and said it is expecting a cold, snowy winter for much of the United States.Where it is normally cold enough to snow in the US, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts above average snowfall in most areas.From the Mississippi River to the east, the US is expected to see below normal temperatures. The Department of Homeland Security is on heightened alert, watching for any election security issues.In the last week of October, hackers targeted at least six states, attempting to get into their voter databases and election security systems, according to the Boston Globe. Some states reported they had to block more than 50,000 log-in attempts that came from foreign countries.“The worst-case scenario is somehow a system is slowed down or brought down, or perhaps there’s some problems on election day, where voters have to wait longer,” says John Fortier, with the Bipartisan Policy Center. “But there are backup procedures and there are ways of recovering from this.”On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security reassured voters that their ballots are safe.“We have no indication of compromise of our nation’s election infrastructure that would prevent voting, change vote counts, or disrupt the ability to tally votes,” said their statement in part.“At this stage in the election, we’re not expecting it, certainly not to effect votes, and secondly there are lots of procedures to recover from this,” Fortier explains. “If there is a problem, there is a backup, both for voters and election administrators.”For now, the bigger concern has become misinformation online, including attempts to cause chaos and manipulate public opinion.Read the joint statement released by the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice in its entirety below:“Our agencies have been working in unprecedented ways to combat influence efforts and to support state and local officials in securing our elections, including efforts to harden election infrastructure against interference. The Environmental Protection Agency has handed documents to Congress that show new travel expenses from agency administrator Scott Pruitt, totaling some ,000 in hotel stays and air travel, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.The documents, which were requested by House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and obtained by the Post, reportedly show that Pruitt traveled on government business dozens of time on first-class and domestic flights from August 2017 through February 2018.The reported expenses include a four-day, ,631 trip to Morocco in December, a series of first-class flights following Hurriciane Harvey totaling ,330, and a two-day domestic trip for media interviews and a visit to Florida that amounted to ,767. Pruitt's travel expenses listed in the records reportedly do not include the costs of his security team or aides who travel with him.The EPA justified the travel spending as necessary to ensure Pruitt's security."EPA's Protective Service Detail identified specific ongoing threats associated with Administrator Pruitt's travel and shifted his class based on certain security protocols that require him to be near the front of the plane," said Jahan Wilcox, a spokesperson for the agency.Previously, CNN reported that from June through August 2017, the EPA justified several expensive charter flights for Pruitt -- including a ,000 bill for a business trip around his home state.In late August, the EPA inspector general announced it would investigate Pruitt's travel practices.
