SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you're single in San Diego, chances are you're not impressed by the dating field locally.At least according to Apartment List, which ranked 130 cities on their ability to provide singles with the best atmosphere. San Diego is, well, lukewarm according to the study.The city ranked 73 overall, right in the middle of the park and posting an overall score of 48 out of 100 possible points.RELATED: Love hurts: Price of a date in San Diego could cost you, study saysThe study ranked cities on their dating satisfaction, social satisfaction, dating affordability, and percentage of reported singles, using data from Apartment List’s Annual Renter Satisfaction Survey and Census Bureau American Community Survey 2017.When it broke down that way, only about 22% of respondents were satisfied with the dating in San Diego. How women and men feel about dating locally may give us an idea about why the city ranked where it did. About 17% of women and 35% of men were satisfied with dating here.Far more San Diegans, about 58%, were satisfied with their social lives in town. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local leaders say it's going to cost millions of dollars to prevent toxic waste from flowing into the Tijuana River Valley, but it's a bill they are willing to pay. Dozens of local leaders and federal agencies came together this morning with a common goal, to prevent the massive amounts of sewage from flowing into our San Diego County beaches. "427 million gallons of sewage has hit our water and our beaches just this year alone," says Port of San Diego Commissioner, Dan Malcolm. During today's meeting, leaders were given possible solutions on how to tackle the problem. "To divert sewage and wastewater flow away from the Tijuana River Valleys, so that it can either be treated or diverted to outflow pumps, that would pump the water far out in the Pacific Ocean," says Mayor of Coronado Richard Bailey.The costs are estimated up to 0 million. Local leaders say sewage isn't the only contaminate in the water. A chemical test was done that showed things like herbicides, arsenic, and lead are also flowing into the sea. "The time of talk is over," says Serge Dedina, Mayor of Imperial Beach. "The time of actually doing things and preventing sewage and toxic waste from reaching our beach is now."Local leaders say the next plan of action is to ask Congress for help with funding. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Mayor Kevin Faulconer condemned Governor Gavin Newsom’s amendment to the California sex offender law in a tweet Saturday morning.The mayor said he is “appalled” by the changes, which give judges discretion on whether or not to list someone as a sex offender for having oral or anal sex with a minor, the Associated Press reported.“As a parent I’m appalled that last night our governor signed a law maintaining a 24-year-old can have sex with a 14-year-old and it not be considered predatory,” Faulconer said.RELATED: California governor signs bill changing sex offender law“An adult who commits ANY sex act on a minor 10 years younger must be registered a sex offender. Law must be changed,” he continued.The bill does not allow statutory rape or pedophilia.The San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday that the bill, SB145, was signed by Newsom without comment. The bill gives judges discretion over sex-offender registration in cases involving teenagers between the ages of 14 to 17, and adults who are less than 10 years older, the Chronicle said.The author of the bill Senator Scott Wiener, from San Fransisco replied to Faulconer's tweet, "Mr. Mayor - I'd always been under the impression that you were a supporter of the LGBTQ community. This bill does nothing more than treat LGBTQ young people the same way we've treated straight young people since 1944. Why would you oppose simple equality?"The bill changes antiquated language that protects a man in a relationship with an underage woman, extending it to members of the LGBTQ community.The bill goes into effect on January 1, 2021. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Memorial Day weekend will see the most travelers out and about than in the last 12 years.More than 41.5 million Americans will be traveling this weekend, a five percent jump from last year, according to AAA. The increase in nearly 2 million travelers also means longer delays. Transportation analytics company INRIX predicts travel delays could be up to three times longer than normal in some areas of the country.The worst times to hit the roads, rails, or the sky will be Thursday and Friday, as commuters and weekend travelers mix, AAA says.BEFORE YOU HEAD OUT: Check updated San Diego traffic conditions"Drivers should expect congestion across a greater number of days than in previous years, with the getaway period starting on Wednesday, May 23. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Law enforcement agencies across San Diego Country will have extra officers stationed near busy railroad intersections this week as part of "Operation Clear Track. "The week-long enforcement ties into National Rail Safety Week, from Sept. 22-28.In Carlsbad, officers will be near Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue during the lunch hour, reminding people to only cross when there are no trains nearby."The goal is to raise railroad safety awareness through education and the enforcement of state railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws," the Carlsbad Police Department said in a statement.Amtrak officers will also keep an eye on well-known trouble spots along the coast, like a stretch in Del Mar where surfers and hikers frequently cross over tracks to get to the beach."It's not safe to cross here," said surfer Cooper Baker, who admitted he does it regularly. "But, if people have their wits about them and make good choices about where they're stepping, it's totally safe. So I just try to make sure I know a train is not going to be here and that my footing is sure. I think it's fine."A recent study found San Diego is the 9th deadliest county for accidental train casualties in the U.S. from 2013-2017. In that time, 44 people were killed while trying to cross tracks. Los Angeles County topped the list, with 110 deaths in that time."It's definitely good to give people a reminder that trains are coming through," said surfer Shayne Jensen. "You gotta be safe."In the last year, the North County Transit District has taken steps to make trains safer. In 2018, they equipped all of their trains with Positive Train Control, a new technology that automatically slows trains down if any danger is detected.Meanwhile, there have been calls in Del Mar for more railroad crossings to be built. Residents are asking for more options, so they're not tempted to cross illegally.
