LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KGTV) - The beautiful wildflower super bloom in Southern California is being met with some ugly behavior. A sea of bright orange poppies carpets the hills along Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore. Word spread when the bloom erupted; now the area is a huge draw for visitors. "Came out here to see the beauty in nature, the poppies, they only come every few years, so you have to enjoy it,” said Lake Elsinore resident Jessica Rodriguez. She said she’s never seen so many people visit. To see the poppies, visitors must find a spot in a mile-long stretch of parked cars. Others opt to take photos from the freeway, which is illegal. "They want that perfect picture, they can get pretty ones but it’s at the expense of the habitat,” said Josh Reinig, MSHCP Reserve Manager.The parks department posted signs telling people not to step on flowers, and they created barriers to protect certain areas. "You're kind of seeing them a lot more trampled stepped on, people just sitting on them,” Reining said. Picking just one flower could mean 30 fewer flowers grow in the future. He became the youngest inductee in the history of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.Sayers' relationship with teammate Brian Piccolo was immortalized in the 1971 movie "Brian's Song." LAKELAND, Fla. — An 85-year-old man was bitten by an alligator at a retirement community Monday afternoon, FWC says.Officials say the alligator was 9-feet-9-inches and trappers pulled it out of a pond Monday afternoon.It happened at the Cypress Lakes Retirement Community.The man was reportedly bitten on the foot and taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where the extent of his injuries are not known at this time.The community posted on its Facebook page about the incident and reminded residents about safety around alligators.Jane Rickel lives here and says trappers found the man’s white sneaker in the gator’s mouth confirming they got the right one.“His wife heard him screaming supposedly. And I guess his neighbor came to his rescue. There isn’t a pond in here that doesn’t have alligators,” she said. 828

(KGTV) - An innovative young baker from Mount Helix is raising money for Parkinson's disease research in honor of her beloved grandfather, who is battling the disease.As many have done during these unusual times, Zoe Bernard took on a popular pandemic hobby."I learned how to make banana bread," says the 9 year-old.As Zoe perfected the recipe, she felt like something was missing, so she started experimenting with different ingredients, getting more bold as her creations continued to receive rave reviews from friends and neighbors. She took custom orders, adding nuts, candy bar pieces and including a couple of secret ingredients. The warm reception led her to begin selling her creations, but not to pad her own pockets. She and her mother Tina Contogenis discussed what would be most beneficial. Zoe decided to donate her profits to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease research.Her "Papa" Joe Contogenis was diagnosed with the disease three years ago. The tough Marine is facing a difficult battle, with a tremor in his arm, and an increasing number of hard days.Zoe and Joe have a special relationship. Joe lives five houses down from Zoe. He describes her as "an incredible young person with the biggest heart."Their neighbors have caught on to Zoe's effort, adding items to sell at a bake sale last Saturday, or overpaying and refusing to take their change.Tina says they've been overwhelmed by the response.
