(KGTV) - Residents in a Rancho Pe?asquitos neighborhood say they are frustrated at the delays keeping a popular community park closed. 10News has uncovered that a key error by a contractor hired by the city is at least partly responsible for the park remaining closed past its scheduled reopening date.When 10News visited Rollings Hills Park Wednesday afternoon it was empty, with the exception of one man walking his dog on the outfield of the park's baseball diamond, the only portion of the park still available to the public. "Normally you'd expect this thing to be fairly packed," said Rick McElroy, who lives across the street.The ,500,000 renovation project began in August, 2018 with Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Councilmember Mark Kersey attending a ceremonial groundbreaking. The park will eventually have two new playgrounds, a rubber surface, and water fountains. Part of the money to pay for the project was raised by community members.A sign posted on the fence currently surrounding the park indicated that work would be done by Spring, 2019. It was previously reported that a source told 10News the contractor made a mistake while working on the park's draining system, which needed to be redone. But city officials say that's not the case.Alec Phillipp, a spokesperson with the City of San Diego, told 10News that the city may be responsible for the delay. The project had to be redesigned after discovering that the location of an existing underground draining system was not where crews anticipated. The city provided the plans to the contractor, which did not accurately map the draining system.Residents also cited other issues they have witnessed, including an accidental spill of sod for the park into the fence."I travel all over the world as part of my job and I get to see how construction is done," says McElroy. "And in other places, they've probably built skyscrapers in the amount of time it's taken us to revamp the park."10News contacted the City to ask how long the reopening will be delayed and whether the cost for the delay will be paid for by taxpayers.A City spokesperson responded that they would look into it. 2352

(KGTV) — The coroner's office has identified a teenager killed after a student pulled out a handgun and fired at classmates at a Southern California high school Thursday.Gracie Anne Muehlberger, 15, died from her injuries in the shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita. One other student, a 14-year-old boy, also died at Henry Mayo Hospital in Valencia, but his identity has not been released.Three other students, 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old girl, were injured in the shooting, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. ABC News and CNN have identified the suspect as 16-year-old Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow.Berhow, a junior at the high school, died Friday from injuries after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Sheriff's Homicide detectives told ABC News. Detectives said his mother was present at the time of his death.Investigators were still searching for a motive Friday. One detective said the shooting occurred on Berhow's 16th birthday."We have not yet established a motive or a nexus between the subject and his victims," Sheriff's Capt. Kent Wegener said Thursday. Officials added there's no history of Berhow being bullied or belief he "was acting on behalf of any group or ideology."Investigators said they believe the students injured were targeted at random, but added "it wasn't a spur of the moment act."It's unclear how Berhow reportedly acquired the firearm used in the attack. Several firearms were found in his home after investigators served a search warrant. Authorities added that Berhow's father, who's no longer alive, had six firearms registered to his name. Scott Peters described his trip to a migrant detention center near McAllen, Texas, as "stunningly depressing.""The single men were being held in a series of rooms, each built for say 8-10 people and I think they had 40 people in them ... The faces of these men just looking out with desperate looks through these windows, some of them shirtless, it's obviously very hot in those places," the Democratic congressman said of his July 13 visit.Peters described the stench from the facility due to the inability for the men to shower. He said another holding facility the size of a convention center, had women and children in rooms divided by chain-link fence. "For the small children there's a small area where they can have toys. There's a few tragic sights you see of four or five-year-olds who are unaccompanied," he said.He said San Diego isn't dealing with nearly as many migrants compared to Texas, "the night before we arrived they picked up 2,000 people." (KGTV) -- The family of Trevor Heitmann, the popular internet personality who drove a sports car into another vehicle killing a mother and her young daughter, say they are devastated and are working to understand what led to Thursday’s tragedy. “Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of our beloved Trevor Heitmann,” the family said in a statement sent to this station via email Saturday by their attorney. “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.” “We are piecing together the facts and circumstances that lead to this incomprehensible tragedy.”The family also thanked first responders for their “valiant efforts and dedication.”Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Drive before the collision, CHP said. (KGTV) — White House chief of staff John Kelly will leave his position within the Trump Administration by the end of the year, President Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday afternoon.CNN on Friday reported that Kelly was expected to announce his departure in the coming days."John Kelly will be leaving ... I don't know if I can say retiring, but he's a great guy," Trump told a pool of reporters outside the White House before departing to Pennsylvania for the Army-Navy football game. "John Kelly will be leaving at the end of the year.
