SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Scripps Health revealed Tuesday plans for major new construction projects and buildings at its hospitals in San Diego County.The master plan includes flexible design spaces for evolving technology in patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories and diagnostic centers, Scripps officials said.More care will be delivered on an outpatient basis at clinics and other facilities so Scripps can use acute care hospitals to care for the most seriously ill patients, said the company."This is our vision to build the health care system of the future - starting today," said Scripps president and CEO Chris van Gorder. "Our focus is on delivering the right care in the right setting that reflects the changing health care needs of the communities we serve across the San Diego region."The projects will be financed by operating revenues, borrowing and philanthropy, Scripps said.Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla:Construction includes a new seven-story, 401,000 square-foot hospital tower. It will feature a woman's health center, nursery, and neonatal ICU. The building should be finished in 2024.Scripps Mercy Chula Vista, Scripps Green Hospitals:The facilities will undergo seismic retrofitting. The work will start in 2022 in Chula Vista and 2027 at Scripps Green.Scripps Mercy San Diego:The campus will be the largest project for the health care system. The existing acute care building will be replaced with a new 710,000 square-foot 15-story tower. Most of the rooms will be private. The central energy plant will also be upgraded. Construction will start in 2022 and end in 2027.Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas:Plans include a new 185,000 square-foot three-story acute care building, a new medical office building, seismic retrofitting and energy plant upgrades. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Zoo visitors are getting their first look at two endangered Amur leopard cubs born at the zoo in April.The unnamed cubs, born April 26, will have their first veterinary exam this week which will reveal the sex of the cubs."The cubs are climbing up on the rocks, they are getting into the trees, sometimes listening to mom and sometimes not," said Kelly Murphy, senior wildlife care specialist, San Diego Zoo. "Their personalities are still developing, and I’m looking forward to see what they become."The cubs' mother, Satka, has ventured out with the newborns daily and is already showing her kids how to stalk and climb, the zoo says. The animals are being raised in the park's Africa Rocks leopard habitat.Amur leopards are the rarest of the big cat species on Earth. There are fewer than 100 Amur leopards believed to exist in the habitats of Russia and China. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to extend a local and public health emergency in response to the coronavirus.The board cautioned that extending the emergencies did not indicate that the general public faced any higher risk of the virus."Today's vote reaffirmed the County of San Diego's decisive action on Friday to declare a local emergency and local health emergency was the right one," Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said in a statement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police searched Tuesday for the man who may have groped several women in the South Bay.The most recent encounter happened Sunday at 7:30 p.m. as the woman was walking on Iris Ave. and Oro Vista Rd. in Nestor, police said.A man walking the opposite direction grabbed the woman’s breast, then ran away.The woman wasn’t hurt and told police the man didn’t appear to have a weapon.Police said the man was Hispanic, in his early 20’s, 5’6” tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black athletic shorts, and black shoes.The man may be responsible for two similar attacks in the same area, said officers.The first incident happened October 30 at 7:30 pm. and the second was January 17 at 9:30 p.m., both on Oro Vista Rd. near the I-5 and 905 interchange.Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police Department at 619-531-2000. 916
