"The Organization is currently faced with financial difficulties which require all parties to actively fulfill their obligations in terms of assessed contributions," Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Ma Zhaoxu told the General Assembly's Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) on Tuesday.
"Both sides need to firmly bear in mind the general direction of bilateral friendship and cooperation, establish correct recognition of each other and strategic mutual trust and make it clear that China and Japan are partners that will not pose threats to each other," Yang said.
A total of 180 representatives from over 20 countries along the Belt and Road and international organizations will attend the forum.
The two countries established their comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016.
According to the statement, however, Prime Minister Pohiva has already clarified his earlier remarks, making it clear that "China has never claimed to collect the debts or take the assets from Tonga in any way, and the governments of Tonga and China have maintained contacts regarding the repayment of the concessional loans."
