LOS ANGELES (KGTV) - A man who Los Angeles Police say repeatedly punched two women during a fight with a street vendor is charged with misdemeanor battery, the LA City Attorney’s office said Wednesday. Arka Sangbaran Oroojian, 30, was caught on camera attacking the women in downtown Los Angeles Jan. 26, City Attorney Mike Feuer said. Investigators said Oroojian began arguing with a hot dog vendor at 6th and Spring Streets when two women came to the vendor’s defense. The fought escalated when Oroojian punched one woman, police said. The second woman tripped Oroojian and he fell to the ground, eventually getting to his feet and hitting both women, according to officers. As they rose, police said Oroojian punched them again and ran away. The women suffered injuries including a concussion, broken finger, and bruises. Oroojian turned himself in to Los Angeles Police and is facing five counts of battery. LONDON (AP) — St. Bernards are known for helping to rescue distressed travelers in the mountains, but on Sunday the tables were turned in northern England. Sixteen volunteers from the Wasdale mountain rescue team took turn carrying Daisy, a 121-pound (55 kilogram) St Bernard, from England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike. The mountain rescue team spent nearly five hours rescuing Daisy, who had collapsed while descending the mountain on Friday evening. Rescue workers say she was displaying signs of pain in her rear legs and was refusing to move. They administered some pain relief, adjusted their stretcher to be more dog-friendly and packed a few treats to help settle her down. Daisy is now recovering from her ordeal.With their sense of direction and resistance to cold, St. Bernards have been saving people in the mountains since the 18th century, according to the Smithsonian Magazine. 899

He used them that night on a salad. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Utah man was held without bail Thursday on charges of murder in the deaths of an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy and another man.Rhett McKenzie Nelson, 30, of St. George, wore a navy blue jail uniform during his initial arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court as the family of Deputy Joseph G. Solano and uniformed deputies with black mourning bands over the badges looked on.Authorities allege Nelson shot Dmitry Koltsov from his vehicle in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, attempted to kill Aleksandr Chudetckii, then fatally shot Solano inside a Jack in the Box in suburban Alhambra. They also say he committed two robberies in Long Beach.Nelson's family says he suffers from mental illness and an opiate addiction. Defense attorney Jenn Bartick was not immediately available for comment.Nelson is due back in court on July 22 for further arraignment. He did not enter a plea on Thursday before Judge Teresa Sullivan and quietly answered, "Yes, Your Honor," when she asked him if he understood that his arraignment was being extended.The case includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders, murder by means of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and using a handgun in the commission of the crimes.
