WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is refusing to publicly commit to accepting the results of the upcoming White House election. In saying that, he's recalling a similar threat he made weeks before the 2016 vote. The president tells “Fox News Sunday” that it's too early to make such an ironclad guarantee, and he scoffs at polls showing him lagging behind Democrat Joe Biden. The Biden campaign says the American people will decide the election and the government “is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.” Trump also is hammering the Pentagon brass for favoring renaming bases that honor Confederate military leaders. Trump says, ”I don’t care what the military says." 713
WASHINGTON (AP) — Wasting no time, the Senate is on track to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court by next Monday.Republicans are charging toward a rare weekend session to push past procedural steps and install President Donald Trump’s pick before Election Day.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he will begin the process as soon as the Senate Judiciary Committee wraps up its work Thursday.Democrats decry the rush, but don't have the votes to block and Trump’s nominee is on a glide path to confirmation.Barrett's ascent would seal a 6-3 conservative hold on the court for years to come. 621

WASHINGTON (AP) — The official serving as President Donald Trump’s eyes and ears at the Justice Department has been banned from the building after trying to pressure staffers to give up sensitive information about election fraud and other matters she could relay to the White House, three people familiar with the matter tell The Associated Press.Heidi Stirrup, an ally of top Trump adviser Stephen Miller, was quietly installed at the Justice Department as a White House liaison a few months ago. She was told within the last two weeks to vacate the building after top Justice officials learned of her efforts to collect insider information about ongoing cases and the department’s work on election fraud, the people said.Stirrup is accused of approaching staffers in the department demanding they give her information about investigations, including election fraud matters, the people said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter. The effort came as Trump continues to level baseless claims that he won the election and alleges without evidence that massive voting fraud was responsible for his defeat to President-elect Joe Biden.Stirrup had also extended job offers to political allies for positions at some of the highest levels of the Justice Department without consulting any senior department officials or the White House counsel’s office and also attempted to interfere in the hiring process for career staffers, a violation of the government’s human resources policies, one of the people said. The Justice Department declined to comment. Attempts to reach Stirrup for comment were not immediately successful. 1686
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is insisting the Navy “will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin” that designates him a SEAL.Attorneys for Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher had accused the Navy of trying to remove the designation in retaliation for Trump’s decision last week to restore Gallagher’s rank.Gallagher was acquitted of a murder charge in the stabbing death of an Islamic State militant captive, but a military jury convicted him of posing with the corpse while in Iraq in 2017. He was demoted to chief.Trump tweeted, “This case was handled very badly from the beginning” and urged those involved to “Get back to business!”Gallagher filed a complaint with the inspector general accusing a rear admiral of insubordination for defying Trump’s actions. 817
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s older sister, a former federal judge, is heard sharply criticizing her brother in a series of newly released recordings. At one point, Maryanne Trump Barry is heard saying the president “has no principles.”Barry was secretly recorded by her niece, Mary Trump, who has released a book denouncing the president.Mary Trump said Saturday she made the recordings in 2018 and 2019. The Washington Post was the first to report on them.At times, Barry speaks critically of what she says is her brother's tweeting, lack of preparation and lying."The g*****n tweet and the lying,” she can be heard saying. “Oh, my God, I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories, the lack of preparation, the lying, the- holy sh*t."Barry also is heard claiming that Trump paid somebody to take the SAT college entrance exam for him."I mean, I didn’t get him in, but I know he didn’t get into college. And he- And he went to Fordham for one year and then he got into University of Pennsylvania. Because he had somebody take his—take the exams."Barry said she hasn’t asked her brother for a favor since 1981, when she was being considered for the federal court."Donald's out for Donald, period. When he said, he started to say something to me, ‘boy look at what I've done for you.’ And I said, ‘you have done nothing.’ Deliberately I have never asked him for a favor since 1981 when I was highly considered to go on the federal court, on my own merits."In a statement, the president says, “Every day it’s something else, who cares." 1570
