DETROIT, Mich. - The number of passengers flying daily in the United State is growing but we’re only seeing a 40% total traffic when compared to a year ago.So airlines are still forced to operate on reduced schedules, some telling us it has created a flight booking headache.With travel down by about 70%, it's been a rough go for the airline industry, but passengers tell me there have been some upsides."Rescheduling the flight was a piece of cake," said one traveler."There's like no one in the middle seat, that’s super nice," said another traveler.Middle seats blocked, no change fees, and more lenient cancellations policies have all made flying much more appealing but traveling during the pandemic also mean dealing with a lot of changes."Saying it was frustrating is an understatement, it was utter chaos," said Kellie McDaniel.McDaniel of Monroe was thrilled about her November trip to the US Virgin Islands, that is until a change by the airline made it so that."Our connecting flights would not match up," said McDaniel.Now, the company did offer her a refund because they could not fix the issue."But then we were left with no airline," said McDaniel. David Blaine, known for extreme stunts and illusions, has reached new heights. Literally.Blaine grabbed onto a bunch of helium balloons this week and floated up into the air above the Arizona desert. The stunt, called “Ascension,” was live streamed on YouTube Wednesday.He begins the video talking to his daughter among giant helium balloons in an airport hangar.“This is what I’ve been telling you about, that I’ve been dreaming about since I was your age,” Blaine tells her. He later says he wanted to do a stunt that “inspires” his daughter, and doesn’t scare her like past stunts may have.He was strapped to about 50 balloons with the goal of reaching about 18,000 feet into the air. The hour-long flight reached a height of 24,900 feet. At about two hours 45 minutes into the video, Blaine releases the balloons and begins skydiving toward earth, opening his parachute a few minutes later.“Wow! That was awesome, wow!” Blaine exclaims when he lands. The video shows his daughter get on the headset and talk to Blaine after he landed.“You did it! I love you,” she says.“That was actually beautiful, from top to bottom,” Blaine says as he boards a helicopter in the desert to return to where his team was stationed at a nearby airport. 1246

Delta has said, however, it intends to hold off furloughing or laying off employees until November.In the wake of the pandemic, Delta said it is putting off a billion purchase of airplanes through 2022.While Delta’s revenue dropped by over 75%, its expenses only dropped 10%, some of which is due to a drop in fuel costs.Despite a gloomy financial picture, there is optimism travelers are beginning to return to the skies.“While our September quarter results demonstrate the magnitude of the pandemic on our business, we have been encouraged as more customers travel and we are seeing a path of progressive improvement in our revenues, financial results and daily cash burn,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s Chief Executive Officer. “The actions we are taking now to take care of our people, simplify our fleet, improve the customer experience, and strengthen our brand will allow Delta to accelerate into a post-COVID recovery.”But even with a slow return to normalcy, Delta expects revenues to be down for years to come.“With a slow and steady build in demand, we are restoring flying to meet our customers’ needs, while staying nimble with our capacity in light of COVID-19,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s President. “While it may be two years or more until we see a normalized revenue environment, by restoring customer confidence in travel and building customer loyalty now, we are creating the foundation for sustainable future revenue growth.” 1817
DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Scott Eastwood was caught on video taking down signs as Del Mar residents protested a proposed luxury resort Sunday. A protestor, Spencer Gobar, who confronted Eastwood in the video, told 10News that the actor identified himself to the group as an official from the city.Eastwood reportedly told demonstrators to take down signs and banners at Del Mar Plaza. However, Gobar said she recognized Eastwood as soon as she saw his face, having seen him numerous times around the area. She asked him by name to stop trying to remove the sign. Eastwood then walked away as the protestors heckled him about his actions and about his famous father, Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood."It all happened so fast," Gobar told 10News. "The last thing I was expecting was for this D-list celebrity to show up and try to dismantle the sign."Eastwood owns at least one business in the North County, a clothing company based in Encinitas. However, it is not clear why he wanted the protest signs against Del Mar Measure G removed. DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV and CNS) -- Authorities Sunday released the identities of the two men killed when a small plane crashed in rough terrain in East County.77-year-old David Alan Derby, a commercial pilot from Santee, and 36-year-old Ryan Michael Willis of San Diego, were found early Thursday morning after their plane didn’t return on schedule.The two took off from Gillespie Field Wednesday evening in a 1682G Champion 7KCAB certified aircraft. When the single-engine plane didn’t report back, a search ensued, leading investigators to find a possible crash site after observing a steep descent on radar.RELATED: Wreckage of missing plane with two people on board found in East CountyA helicopter was able to locate the plane near Descanso, roughly 17 miles northeast of Gillespie Field.Derby and Willis were both determined to have died in the crash.Derby held his pilot’s license since 2003, according to the FAA.
