Nichole Jolly just confirmed what she feared: her childhood home, where three generations made memories, was now reduced to rubble.“This is where I came back when I was born,” she said through tears. “This is where my babies came back when they were born.”Jolly and her husband, Nick, had come to terms thinking the cat that lived with her mom probably didn’t make it. Jolly said her mom was given such little notice to evacuate, so she left with only the clothes on her back. But as if on cue, a head popped up from the rubble.“Oh my god, Nick!” Jolly cried out.  “That’s our cat! Oh my god.”After a few minutes, they coaxed her out of the rubble. Jolly whispered an apology to little Kit Kat, nestled in her arms. The cat was now much thinner than the last time they saw her and her paws were singed.“I can’t believe she made this! She is a strong kitty. We have a strong family,” Jolly said.“I had to walk through fire too,” she said in Kit Kat’s ear.Jolly did, in fact, walk through fire. In fact, she barely escaped. It was last Thursday when the rapidly-moving fire was spreading through the town of Paradise—now 90 percent destroyed--where Jolly works as a nurse. She helped evacuate the surgical unit patients, putting them in any cars they could find, as gently as possible. And for that, she’s been dubbed a hero. However, Jolly thinks that saving her own life soon after was the real miracle.Jolly was in her car trying to escape, when the inferno suddenly surrounded her and many others on the same road.“I don’t even know where I am, it’s on fire,” Jolly said in a video she took from her car. “And we’re stuck in the middle of it. These trees could come down at any moment.”Cars were lined up and going nowhere.“I thought I was gonna be able to get out this way, but I’m stuck here, too,” she can be heard saying through tears in that same video.“We were screaming and running into each other with our cars. They pushed me off the road.”On Tuesday evening, she returned to that very spot for the first time since she almost lost her life.“I was all by myself. I was totally alone, and I called Nick and I said, ‘Honey, there’s flames all around me, and I’m gonna die. There’s no way I can make it out of this.’”Her husband had even begun to think about how he would tell their children their mom wasn’t coming home.“She was hysterical,” her husband Nick said, recalling their phone call. “And I couldn’t do anything to help her.”He suggested she get out and run. So, she did. Her shoes began to melt, and her clothes caught fire.“And I just had my arms out and I’m running, and I touched a firetruck.”She got inside it, but traffic was still at a standstill. Even the firefighters thought their chances for survival were grim.“I was sitting in the fire truck right here and just thinking, ‘OK, this is going to be a really painful death.’”But a bulldozer suddenly appeared, pushing the melting vehicles off the road. They made it out. But she hasn’t stopped reliving it. “I’ll never forget my screaming in the car, when the fire was just coming up on the side of it, and I was yelling for my husband ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ I’ll never forget that. That’s what I wake up to every night.”But she takes comfort in knowing they, unlike some, still have each other. And they have Kit Kat. Tuesday evening, they brought her to her mom while she was at work to surprise her.“We found your freaking cat, mom,” Nichole shouted.Stunned, her mother could hardly find words.“Oh my god, you guys. I can’t believe this…. I thought she was gone!”Still alive. But now with eight lives left to spare. 3610

NEW YORK — A military jet flyover planned on the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11 has been canceled following widespread backlash on social media."As per the US Navy, today's F-18 jet flyover on the Hudson River has been canceled," NYC's official emergency notification system confirmed in a tweet. The Department of Defense announced Thursday an F-18 jet would be flying over the Hudson River toward the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Friday around 3:30 p.m.Many took to social media, including New York elected officials, expressing outrage, calling for the event to be canceled. In a tweet, City Councilmember Mark Levine questioned “is someone in the Pentagon deliberately trying to trigger PTSD in NYC??”Congressman Max Rose called for the event to be canceled "immediately."Even Brandon Borrman, the vice president of Global Communications at Twitter, called the idea “completely tasteless.”Others on Twitter called it “cruel,” “the worst idea,” and traumatizing to many. This article was written by Kristine Garcia for WPIX. 1034

NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - President Donald Trump made an approximately 2 1/2-hour visit to Orange County Sunday for an early afternoon private fundraiser at tech mogul Palmer Luckey's Newport Beach estate. The fundraiser consisted of Trump participating in a roundtable discussion with supporters, then making a speech, according to the White House. It was closed to reporters, like many high-priced fundraisers conducted by presidents of both parties.Invitations for the fundraiser show tickets ranging from ,800 for individual admission to 0,000 for a couple to attend and take a photo with the president. Ric Grenell, Trump's former acting director of national intelligence, was also slated to attend the event. The ,800 figure comes from the donation limit for an individual in a presidential general election campaign. The higher ticket prices are legal because the money goes to the Republican National Committee and Republican state parties in battleground states. The motorcade arrived at the fundraiser location at 12:11 p.m. and left at 1:46 p.m. Air Force One departed from John Wayne Airport bound for Reno, Nevada at 2:15 p.m. after landing at 11:36 a.m.Trump was scheduled to speak at a rally in Carson City, Nevada later Sunday. He began his day in Las Vegas, where he attended a church service.Trump walked across the tarmac at about 11:45 a.m. and greeted a crowd of approximately 200 enthusiastic supporters who cheered and chanted "four more years," chatting briefly with several of them. A man in the crowd shouted out, "We love you."The president then left for the fundraiser via motorcade, passing a few hundred people, mostly supporters, including some with Trump flags, lining a street in Santa Ana. At least one person was carrying a sign supporting the Democratic ticket of former Vice President Joe Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris. As the motorcade drove through Newport Beach, thousands of Trump supporters lined the streets. The throng of supporters included people hoisting U.S. flags, Trump flags and Trump placards. Many people wore "Make America Great Again" hats and other Trump apparel. Some changed "USA" as the motorcade passed. The motorcade passed a half-dozen Biden supporters holding a sign that read, "Honk if you vote Democrat."Outside of Luckey's mansion, scores of people shouted disparaging comments about the news media to reporters covering the event, with several men yelling, "Fake news!"A man called out: "Where's Hunter!" and other yelled "The computer is real" -- a reference to New York Post stories that an email showed Hunter Biden introduced his father, who was vice president at the time, to a top executive at Burisma, a Ukrainian energy firm whose board he sat on.In response to a question from CBS News on Friday, the elder Biden said he had "no response" to the story, calling it "another smear campaign."Before Air Force One's arrival, hundreds of people had lined Via Lido in Newport Beach awaiting Trump's arrival at the fundraiser, The Orange County Register reported. Most of the people interviewed by The Register told the paper they were there to get Trump's help to stop the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory in the Caucasus Mountains.A small group of Black Lives Matter demonstrators faced off with some of the Trump supporters, but no violence was reported. The event was originally slated to take place Oct. 6, but postponed after Trump contracted the coronavirus. The president says he no longer feels ill and his doctors have cleared him for public appearances. However, some experts have expressed concern about him holding in-person events just two weeks after being released from Walter Reed Medical Center and continue to discourage any large public gatherings. The 28-year-old Luckey has donated 5,600 to Trump's campaign this cycle, The Orange County Register reported, citing Federal Election Commission records. And he's donated more than .7 million this cycle, with much of the rest of those funds going to Republican committees and candidates, including Michelle Steel and Young Kim, who are both trying to unseat Orange County Democratic members of Congress.Luckey is a Long Beach native who was 19 when he co-founded the Oculus Rift virtual-reality system in Irvine. His company sold for an estimated billion to Facebook in 2014. 4384

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has rejected a million settlement between Harvey Weinstein and some of his accusers. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein in Manhattan said Weinstein's accusers in the proposed class-action settlement were too varied to be grouped together. Lawyers for several women who had opposed the deal praised what they described as Hellerstein's swift rejection of a one-sided proposal. Back in March, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.According to CNN, Weinstein was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the charge of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and three years in prison for a charge of rape in the third degree.90 women accused Weinstein of harassment, inappropriate touching, and sexual assault, the New York Times reported.A spokesman for Weinstein did not immediately comment. A lawyer for his companies declined to comment. And there was no immediate comment from New York Attorney General Letitia James, who announced the tentative agreement on June 30. The deal would have provided between ,500 and 0,000 to some women who accused Weinstein of abusing them. 1151
