SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's the final countdown for the San Diego Zoo's remaining panda bears.The zoo has launched a three-week farewell celebration for 27-year-old giant panda Bai Yun and her son, 6-year-old Xiao Liwu, before the two are repatriated to China this spring. Working with our colleagues in China, San Diego Zoo Global is ready to make a commitment for the next stage of our panda program.”Zoo visitors can see the pandas at their habitat leading up to their departure, and the park will be selling special commemorative bells and offering free tags to hang on the Giant Panda Friendship Wall.How you can see the giant pandasThe San Diego Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. One-day passes for adults cost and for children ages 3-11. Multi-day visit passes are also available, starting at .60 for adults and .60 for children ages 3-11.Once inside the zoo, head over to Panda Canyon. To do so, hang a right on "Front Street" after entering the park and head toward Bieler Plaza. Take a left a the plaza and follow the road down to the panda exhibit. Or take the skytram over the exhibit, and double back over Bashor Bridge. A stairwell at the end of the bridge will lead to Panda Canyon below. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's been a tumultuous year for East Village's Monkey Paw Brewery.The local brewing company was purchased by Coronado Brewing Company in July 2017, put up for sale in May of this year, and closed its downtown San Diego brewpub Monday.Coronado Brewing Company (CBC) CEO Brandon Richards said in May, months after finalizing the purchase, the sale was part of a refocusing for CBC.RELATED: Miramar's Intergalactic Brewery is closing its doors"While we were excited about the potential of Monkey Paw, the decision to sell came from the need to refocus our energy toward Coronado Brewing," Richards said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It has been over six months since a water main break spilled thousands of gallons of water into North Park streets, but some homeowners are still dealing with the aftermath.Jonathan Head has owned a triplex on Idaho street for almost twenty years."There's two buildings," Head said. "It was built in [the] 1940s."Back in October, a water main broke near his property. His tenants started to text him early that morning on October 4th. "It made my heart drop... it was like a river," Head said. While the water did not enter the living space, Head said it went into the vents flooding the crawl space beneath. "The wiring, the plumbing [was] completely saturated," Head said. He said city workers tried to fix the problem, but it was too late."By the time they got the equipment in, most of the water had penetrated the soil," Head said. He believes that made it difficult to dry out the property, which is why they are seeing problems with the foundation. Head said cracks below and inside the home developed. He filed a claim with the City of San Diego, but said he got no response."The city still has not compensated the clients entirely for the full scope of the damage," said Head's attorney, Evan Walker. There is now a lawsuit claiming roughly 5,000 worth of damage. "I think the city has known for some time about the precarious condition of its pipes and that it has done nothing," Walker added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Images of burning homes, helicopters and flames are now a regular occurrence in California.This summer, that wildfire threat became real for the Del Cerro community.“We could hear the exploding palm trees, we could smell the toxic, frightening smoke," remembers Glenn Thomas, Vice Chair of Friends of Del Cerro.The group wanted to do something to pay back firefighters for all they do for the community. They wanted to know what the department needs to help firefighters do their job better. “We believe you find out what people want and you give it to them!” said Thomas.Friends of Del Cerro teamed up with the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation to make something happen.What the department needs, Thomas learned, is more wildland firefighting hand tools. While these tools are currently on brush trucks, the department wants them on every engine.“There are so many more vegetation fires, and they grow so much bigger now," said Deputy Chief Steve Wright. “Something we needed that’s going to be a force-multiplier on vegetation fires that we didn’t have the immediate budget for."The group plans to raise ,000 for the tools and is halfway there thanks to a generous donation from the Padres.If you'd like to help, donate here. 1261
