Founder Craig Antico explains how it works, and why they don’t know the names of the people that they’ve helped. “RIP Medical Debt abolishes medical debt for the poor and those in hardship,” Antico says. “The way that we do it is we go and buy medical debt from either hospitals, doctors, or even the collector investors to buy the debt to make them nonprofit.”A study in the American Journal of Public Health found that medical debt contributes to two-thirds of bankruptcy filings. So, debt relief like this can be life changing. “I could not come up with any words; I was so caught off guard,” says Lisa Sole, who is a recipient of a Northview Church donation. Sole used ,500 dollars to cover medical bills and other debt.“When you are granted the gift of debt being taken away from you, the amount of stress that it relieves off of your body is so healing,” she says.With that kind of healing, Sole was inspired to pass it on and pay it forward, saying it’s truly better to give than receive. “It’s exciting to see the next person’s acceptance and how they’re excited compared to us and the feeling you get,” she says. 2266

John Paul Stevens, a former Supreme Court Justice appointed by Gerald Ford, has died at the age of 99 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to a statement from the US Supreme Court, Stevens died from complications from a stroke. Stevens served on America's top court from 1975 through 2010. INDIANAPOLIS — A boy was hit by a car Monday afternoon on the west side of Indianapolis after somehow leaving his Indianapolis Public School. Now, the boy's parents want answers. "They failed me and my child, severely. My son could've been killed," Pearl Barnett, parent of IPS student who was hit by a car, said. "This is a mother's worst nightmare."First-grader, Frank Barnett, who has autism, has been through a lot the past 48 hours."I'd like to see justice for my son. I really would," Pearl said. "Because, unfortunately, he's nonverbal. He can't speak for himself."According to Frank's Individualized Education Program through Stephen Foster School 67, he is never to be left alone.The 7-year-old's mother wants to know how he was able to leave the west side school, somehow wander to a family friend's home nearby, and get hit by a car. "I got in the ambulance, and he had a gauge here where his skull was actually showing. And a busted chin," Pearl said. "I mean he was just covered in blood."Later — a concussion, nearly 50 stitches, and bruising head-to-toe — Frank had to spend the night in the hospital and is now recovering.His mother feels the school screwed up, letting him escape and didn't react quick enough to protect him.All of this happened during dismissal when students are trying to exit the school building — a time when Frank should have been riding home on the bus."He gets curb to curb service due to the autism. And when he gets in one of those moods, depending on what happened at that time of the incident, he runs," Pearl informed. "And they're all aware of this. It's stated in his IEP which I do have that he should never be left unattended. He's always got to be with another adult which he was not."IPS would not speak on camera about this — saying he broke away from a staff member and ran out of the building. It’s been nearly nine months since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle. Though time has passed, those living in the remains of what Hurricane Michael left in its wake are struggling. Hurricane Michael was the first Category 5 Hurricane to strike the contiguous United States Since Andrew in 1992. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Hurricane Michael caused nearly billion in damage. However, nearly nine months since the storm, there is still plenty of damage and debris in Panama City, Panama City Beach, and Mexico Beach, where Michael hit the hardest. According to a REBUILD 850 survey released Tuesday, public support for Hurricane Michael recovery efforts in the Florida Panhandle is lacking. The results showed nearly half of respondents would do nothing to help people affected by the hurricane and nearly 75 percent said they would not consider donating money to help with relief efforts. Some affected by the hurricane said this could be because those across the country mistakenly think life has gone back to normal in the panhandle. As the new hurricane season approaches, many residents across the panhandle are still trying to recover from the Category 5 storm. E.W. Scripps went to the panhandle and spoke with those who are still trying to get their living situation back to normal. Some say they may have to move back into a home they say isn’t safe since their temporary living situation will no longer work. Others are living in their homes that still have damage and no insulation, living where inside temperatures reach 93 degrees. Ann Marie Dimeglio has lived in Panama City Beach for 17 years with her husband and three kids. “There are so many people who have it far worse than I do,” Dimeglio says. “We are all trying to get by after the storm. It’s not the same. People were struggling before the hurricane, and now with everything that’s going on, it’s just getting worse. But we’re all just trying to fight through it. You’re not living if you’re not fighting. I think a lot of us here just want people to know that things aren’t fine here. It appears some companies are taking advantage of consumers during the COVID-19 crisis as the Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday that it received 7,800 coronavirus-related complaints. The number of complaints the FTC has received doubled last week from the previous week, the governmental agency announced. The FTC said that top categories of fraud complaints include travel and vacation related reports about cancellations and refunds, reports about problems with online shopping, mobile texting scams, and government and business imposter scams.
