PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Port Richey, Florida Mayor Dale Massad and his longtime girlfriend Caj Joseph were arrested Aug. 23 on domestic violence charges. Massad was arrested after deputies say he grabbed Joseph and pushed her to the ground. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery which required him to spend the night in jail before his first court hearing Friday. In July, police went to Massad's house four dozen times, but he had never been charged with a crime. At the time, he blamed police activity on his girlfriends.“You look in there, see if I made any calls,” he said, pointing to police reports.Joseph, who was arrested Thursday for felony battery of a person over the age of 65, had been charged half a dozen other times for battery, violating protection orders and other crimes allegedly committed at Massad's home.“I'm a felon and I went back there and I don't want to be there,” Joseph told the judge. She also said she was unable to post a 0 bond to get out of jail.“I don't know how to get out of here. I don't have anyone I know. He's not gonna get me out,” Joseph said.Port Richey's city manager instructed the Pasco Sheriff's Office to investigate the case. He could not be reached for comment.Massad and Joseph were ordered not to have any contact with each other after they're released on bond.Massad denied the allegations and said he plans to plead "not guilty."A misdemeanor conviction would not affect his ability to serve in elected office. 1526

President Donald Trump publicly attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci — his administration's top expert on infectious diseases — just days after Fauci criticized the president's campaign taking a March interview of his "out of context" and using it in a campaign ad."Actually, Tony's pitching arm is far more accurate than his prognostications," Trump tweeted Monday, referencing Fauci's errant first pitch at a Washington Nationals game earlier this year.Trump's message came in a quote tweet of a Sunday CNN article in which Fauci confirmed a recent Trump campaign and took him "out of context."The ad, which touts Trump's efforts in fighting COVID-19, features a quote from Fauci during an interview on Fox News. 712

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Journalists have been covering protests in Portland, Oregon, for three months. But in the chaos, some have been injured or arrested. Whether they are from major media outlets, freelancers, or self-proclaimed "citizen journalists," reporters say they're doing their job and law enforcement is hindering that work. Police say protesters have masqueraded as journalists and then set fires or thrown fireworks, making it a struggle to figure out who's a real reporter during the pandemonium. Journalists typically wear clothing that says "press" and has badges that clearly identify them as reporters. 627

President Donald Trump hit the campaign trail for the first time since his coronavirus diagnosis.Trump attended a rally in Sanford, Florida, on Monday, before thousands of supporters who were standing shoulder to shoulder. The majority of those in attendance were not donning face coverings, flouting public health recommendations. After the president boarded Air Force One for the flight to Florida, presidential physician Dr. Sean Conley confirmed that Trump has tested negative for the coronavirus and is no longer infectious.Trump declared himself “immune" from the coronavirus to his supporters on Monday.“Now they say I am immune. I feel so powerful. I’ll walk in there, I’ll kiss everyone in that audience,” Trump told supporters. “I’ll kiss the guys and the beautiful women and every mouth. I’ll just give you a big fat kiss.”Florida is a crucial state for Trump to win re-election. While Biden is leading in most major polls in the state, most polls show Biden’s lead is within the margin of error. Only one major poll, last week’s Quinnipiac survey, had Biden’s lead ahead of the margin of error.Meanwhile, Democratic nominee Joe Biden stumped in Cincinnati. Based on polling, Ohio has become a toss-up state after Trump won the state in 2016 by 8%. The five most recent presidential polls in Ohio showed the race within the margin of error. Three of the polls gave Biden a slight edge, one poll had the race tied, and another poll gave Trump a slight lead.Biden’s Ohio rally will be akin to a drive-in, with supporters spaced out in a parking lot.The backdrop of the rallies are amid a rise in coronavirus cases throughout the US. On Friday, Ohio reported its highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day with 1,840 confirmed infections. Florida though is among a handful of states seeing a decrease in cases following a summer surge. While cases are declining, coronavirus-related deaths have remained high in the state. All told, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 15,000 Floridians.Voters have just 22 days to decide on a presidential candidate. 2089

President Donald Trump is at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami on Thursday night for a town hall moderated by Today host Savannah Guthrie as he took questions from voters as part of a town hall.CoronavirusTrump was evasive with Guthrie about whether or not he took a COVID-19 test on the day of his debate against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.Guthrie asked Trump when his last test was; he told her he tests quite a bit. Guthrie then asked if he tested the day of the debate, and Trump said he probably did.Trump did inform Guthrie that he has no remaining symptoms of the virus. He did add that his doctors told him that his lungs were "a little bit infected" when he was hospitalized.Trump also claimed that the CDC found that "85% of the people that wear masks catch it." Guthrie responded that she knew of that study, and that's not what it says. Trump responded that is what he heard. The CDC study that Trump referred to didn't even state a percentage of who doesn't wear masks. Trump also added the US is "expected to lose 2,200,000 people and maybe more than that" from coronavirus. Trump was likely referring to this report from March by scholars that predicted that a total of 2.2 million Americans could die from COVID-19 if no preventative measures were placed.White SupremacyTrump denounced white supremacy during a town hall on Thursday while on NBC."I denounced white supremacy. I denounced White supremacy for years, but you always start with the question, you didn't ask Joe Biden whether or not he denounces Antifa," Trump said. "I denounced white supremacy. I denounce Antifa, and I denounce these people on the left that are burning down our cities, that are run by Democrats."QAnonDuring his town hall on NBC, Trump refused to denounce the QAnon conspiracy theory, telling Guthrie that he knows "nothing about QAnon."The conspiracy Guthrie referred to during Thursday's town hall was that the Democrats run a satanic pedophile ring, and Trump is its savior. Guthrie then asked Trump if he could state that it was not valid.Trump said that all he knew about the conspiracy theory is that "they are very much against pedophilia" and agree with that.Guthrie also asked Trump about a tweet he recently retweeted about the conspiracy that former president Barack Obama and Biden "had SEAL Team 6 killed" and that Osama bin Laden's death was a hoax."I know nothing about it," Trump said. "That was a retweet — that was an opinion of somebody. And that was a retweet. I'll put it out there. People can decide for themselves." "I don't get that," Guthrie responded. "You're the President. You're not like someone's crazy uncle who can retweet whatever."TaxesDuring his hour-long town hall, Trump confirmed that he might owe 0 million personally but did not state to whom he owes the debt. He added that he didn't owe any money to Russia or to "sinister people."" 0 million is a peanut," Trump said during his town hall.Trump added that he is currently being audited and that the IRS mistreats him.""I'm treated very badly by the IRS," Trump said. "They treat me very, very badly. You have people in there from previous administrations. They treat me very badly. But we're under audit. It's very routine in many ways. But we're under audit. They like to change the game, change the rules, do everything." 3338
