TOWSON, Md. — Loud sex at a Towson Days Inn led to a police altercation and gunshots on Monday, charging documents say.According to police, a security guard called police about a potential fight at the hotel after front desk clerks overheard loud noises while on a call with a room. When officers arrived, they spoke with two women who were supposedly in the room when the commotion was heard. Both women told police they weren't fighting but were having sex.At the request of the security officer, police ordered the women to pack up and leave the hotel. One of the women thought she left a cell phone in the room, at which point an officer escorted her back to look for it. The other woman, 34-year-old Allison Daughtrey went into the lobby and began arguing with hotel staff. At that point, the security guard claims Daughtrey pointed a gun at him. While trying to disarm Daughtrey, the gun fired and struck a door frame in the lobby.A Baltimore County Police officer was outside heading back to his patrol car when he heard the gunshot. The officer returned to arrest her.Daughtey told police that the security guard hit her first and that she swung her purse at him to protect her self. She claims that's what caused the gun to fly across the room and fire.Police wrote in the charging documents that surveillance footage shows Daughtrey entering the lobby, getting into an altercation with the guard, and later pulling out a gun.Daughtrey admitted to police that the gun was hers and she bought it in North Carolina. The security guard was later taken to the hospital for an injury he says he sustained after Daughtrey bit him.Daughtrey is currently being held without bond on multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and gun crimes.A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 4.This story was originally published by 1890

Tuesday marks the biggest day in the nominating race for Democratic hopefuls in this year’s presidential election. Nearly one-third of all pledged delegates will be up for grabs in Tuesday’s race. In total, 14 states and American Samoa will help decide who the Democratic nominee will be. Who votes?Voters in the following states, and one territory, can cast ballots on Tuesday:Alabama (52 delegates)American Samoa (6 delegates)Arkansas (31 delegates)California (415 delegates)Colorado (67 delegates)Maine (24 delegates)Massachusetts (91 delegates)Minnesota (75 delegates)North Carolina (110 delegates)Oklahoma (37 delegates)Tennessee (64 delegates)Texas (228 delegates)Utah (29 delegates)Vermont (16 delegates)Virginia (99 delegates)Remaining candidates:Sen. Bernie Sanders (60 delegates)Vice President Joe Biden (54 delegates)Sen. Elizabeth Warren (8 delegates)Mayor Mike Bloomberg (0 delegates)Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (0 delegates)Who left the race?Since Biden won in dominating fashion on Saturday, businessman Tom Steyer, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Mayor Pete Buttigieg have all withdrawn from the race. Klobuchar and Buttigieg both endorsed Biden on Monday. Who’s the frontrunner?Going into last Saturday’s race in South Carolina, many considered Sanders the frontrunner to win the nomination. His frontrunner status has been brought into question thanks to the events of the last three days. Biden’s surge in South Carolina, plus the sudden withdrawal of several other candidates, could give Biden a boost to what was a slumping campaign. Biden’s campaign has struggled to raise money to have the sort of advertising that Bloomberg and Sanders have. But with several major endorsements, Biden has seen his share of free advertising through news reports and buzz around the campaign. Bloomberg’s entrySuper Tuesday marks the first time Bloomberg will be competing for votes. He has spent some of his fortune to put his message before voters. For instance, on Sunday during primetime, he took out advertising on several major networks to talk about the coronavirus. He also purchased ad time during the Super Bowl. But Bloomberg also did not see much of a boost coming out of two debates, his first of which involved attacks from Warren about his handling of non-disclosure agreements with his employees. What polling saysRecent polls have Sanders ahead nationally, and in leading in many Super Tuesday states including Texas and California. A caveat though is those polls were conducted before Saturday, and how Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Steyer voters sway could determine who wins the majority of delegates on Super Tuesday. How it could play outSuper Tuesday could give some clarity as to whether the race will be decided during the primary season, or at the Democratic National Convention in July. A candidate is required to win 1991 pledged delegates going into the convention. Failure to win a majority of delegates will result in hundreds of so-called “Super Delegates” to cast a ballot during a second round of voting. How likely of a scenario is a brokered convention? Election forecast site 538 gives the odds of a brokered convention at 2 out of 3. But the site also gives both Sanders and Biden a one in six chance to win the nomination outright. Why 15% matters? In order to gain delegates from a state, earning 15% of the vote is the minimum threshold. Among the candidates in each state who win 15% of the vote, the number of delegates is allocated proportionally based on their performance throughout the entire state and within the state’s congressional districts. 3588

There are so many options when a person goes into a supplement store, from vitamins to minerals and protein powders and more. The latest one to grow in popularity? Collagen. At Supplement Giant, owner Adam Watts says collagen powder is a popular product.“Collagen is actually the most abundant amount of protein in our body,” Watts said.Collagen represents 30 percent of a human body’s protein content.“It’s found in animal bones ligaments and tendons again not traditionally part of our diet anymore,” he said. Most brands sell collagen as a great supplement to take to improve a person’s hair, skin, fingernails, and bone and joint health.“If you have a deficiency of collagen in your skin it can decrease you skin health which can cause stretch marks, dark spots, infections,” Watts said.He suggests people age 30 and older take a collagen supplement.“After the age of 30, collagen decreases by 1 percent, so by the time you're 50, you've lost 20 percent of your collagen,” he said. "If you have injuries, collagen is going to help and repair tissue." Registered Dietician Jessica Crandall Snyder said she recommends food as medicine, not supplements."Being active on a daily basis you are actually helping to re-synthesize your collagen," she said, "So supplemental sources from protein powders may not be the way for you to get adequate nutrition."While Adam Watts sells collagen powder at whole sale, other stores start the product at per container. But eggs, wild salmon, tomatoes, pumpkin and chia seeds are affordable foods that aid in collagen production. The experts say collagen powder works, but make sure it’s not your main source of protein. 1668

The year 2018 was a tale of two stories: a year of record-breaking holiday sales and a year of retailers filing for bankruptcy. According to the Mastercard Spending Pulse report, brick and mortar stores saw a 5 percent increase in sales compared to last year. There was a 19 percent increase for online sales. However, it was also year big retailers like Sears filed for bankruptcy, and Toys-R-Us closed its stores. “Weak retailers are closing,” says marketing professor Darrin Duber-Smith. “It just takes them forever to close.” What does this mean for retailers as we head into 2019? “If the retailers that are in trouble--the ones that are kind of running out of cash, the ones that really look like they're going out of business--if they don't have a good holiday season, they're pretty much dead in the water in the first couple of quarters,” Duber-Smith explains. Despite an increase in holiday sales overall, department stores struggled. Sales were reportedly down 1.3 percent this holiday season. J.C. Penny’s stock fell below a share for the first time last week. Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue have been shutting down some of their flagship stores, and Nieman Marcus has big debt coming due in 2020 and 2021. Duber-Smith says debt is a make or break. “These brands that are saddled with so much debt aren't able to invest in their companies,” he explains. “They're not able to invest in marketing. They're not able to invest in e-commerce.” E-commerce is key. Online sales growth for department stores grew 10.2 percent, but Amazon is still king when it comes to online retailers. That's why some stores have decided to work with the retail giant. “Best Buy was left for dead,” Duber-Smith explains. “Now, they have a partnership with Amazon where you can try the products in-store and buy it on Amazon. But now, Best Buy get a piece of that action.”Survival for some retailers means finding creative ways to thrive in an ever-changing retail landscape. 1990
