SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego businesses are still waiting for any information on the resumption of indoor services, such as indoor dining, and the long wait has some frustrated and at a breaking point.“The first five years were hard, but I never thought it would be a pandemic that brought me to my knees,” said Yuda Phia, who has owned Time Out Sports Tavern in downtown San Diego for 10 years.Piha and wife Sarah got married days before the pandemic forced the shutdown, and the restaurant's first closure.Sarah Phia explained the extra measures they've taken to meet or exceed the guidelines laid out the first time they reopened, including Plexiglas dividers and staff retraining.Sarah, a graphic designer, made the signage throughout the establishment that enforced mask wearing and social distancing.Setting up tables on the sidewalk isn't really an option for Time Out, which is located downtown on Broadway near 7th Avenue along a busy two-way street that gets constant bus and truck traffic and has narrow room for patrons.County officials have said they expect new state-directed timelines in the coming days for reopening businesses, but Supervisor Jim Desmond said Tuesday that he doesn't know what they will be.Desmond has advocated for the safe reopening of businesses, but he said the county’s hands are tied as control lies in the governor's hands. The decision is also entirely independent from the state’s watch list, which San Diego County was removed from on Tuesday.The orders were issued concurrently, but not together, so there is no automatic trigger point when businesses would reopen.Desmond wishes the state would reauthorize local control so that the county could make some reopening decisions independently going forward. 1758

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County health officials reported Friday 11 hospitalizations due to vaping. Those who have been hospitalized range from 17 to 70 years old, according to County of San Diego Communications Specialist Tom Christensen. The illnesses come as U.S. health officials urge people to stop vaping until they can determine the cause of serious breathing illnesses. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and vomiting. Some 450 cases and as many as five deaths have been identified in 33 states, including California. However, many of those who were sickened said they had been vaping THC. There's been a split among public health experts about the value of vaping nicotine. Some argue e-cigarettes are not as lethal as conventional cigarettes and can be a valuable aide to smokers trying to kick the habit But others say studies have not established that adult smokers who try vaping end up quitting smoking long term. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday in the search for the burglars responsible for taking half a million dollars’ worth of items during break-in at the Fashion Valley Hermes de Paris store.Up to 10 people got out of three vehicles at the north end of the mall about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 18. Surveillance video shows the group approaching the store and using a pry bar to open the front door.The group stole purses, jewelry and clothing worth 0,000 in just two minutes.RELATED: San Diego mall burglars steal from HermesPolice said the group wore hooded sweatshirts and gloves. Sandbox Pizza in Pacific Beach is an example of a restaurant stuck in limbo while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19. This past weekend, they held an event offering , 14-inch pizzas to all customers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric and the city of San Diego are in a disagreement that could be worth up to 0 million.The controversy is over San Diego's Pure Water project, which would turn sewage into high treated drinking water. The city's goal is to have a third of its water supply be reclaimed water by 2035. To accomplish that, the city plans to build a billion pipeline to pump sewage from the Morena area to the North City Water Reclamation Plant on the edge of Miramar.On Thursday, the City Council voted 5-4 to approve about .1 billion for the project. But completing the pipeline would require SDG&E to remove its gas and electric lines. The city says SDG&E usually does that on its own dime, but this time - the utility says it will not spend the money. The City Attorney's office is now involved.The council voted 8-1 to authorize million this fiscal year, but is retaining its legal rights to recover the money. The city may have to spend another million next fiscal year to complete the project.In a statement, SDG&E says it supports the project but is working to protect its ratepayers."Our goals are to assist the City with their plans and ensure our customers, especially those outside City limits who will not benefit from the project, are not unfairly burdened with utility relocation costs," the statement said. The city hopes to begin advertising for construction for the pipeline next month.   1491
