SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of grapes caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 8 in El Cajon Monday morning.Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on westbound I-8 just near dunbar lane shortly after 12:30 a.m.Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of grapes, but it was a total lost.California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver escaped unharmed.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An atmospheric river is set to bring widespread showers -- which could lead to flooding -- to San Diego County the next week.Rain is expected to come down Monday afternoon and finally taper off Thursday, with the most widespread and heavy rainfall coming Tuesday.Initial forecasts show rain totaling 1 to 3 inches for most areas of San Diego, with up to 5 inches of snow in some mountain locations, according to 10News weather anchor Vanessa Paz.WEATHER: 10News' updated forecast for San Diego CountyAccording to the National Weather Service, localized flooding will be possible Tuesday and typically dry desert areas will see significant flow. Thunderstorms will also be possible in some areas.Heavy showers are expected to continue Wednesday morning, with more roadway and local flooding possible, NWS reported.Thursday, if showers continue, flooding could continue to be an issue. Though, currently showers are expected to ease. Showers are expected to move out of the county by Friday.The showers are expected to help San Diego's reservoirs for the rest of the year. Currently, much of California is either "abnormally dry" or in a "moderate drought." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting an elderly woman at a Central Coast beach parking lot in San Luis Obispo, law officials said.Morro Bay Police Officers responded to a disturbance call at around 1 p.m. at the Morro Rock parking lot on Coleman Drive, authorities said.Witnesses told officers that the suspect assaulted an elderly woman and knocked her to the ground. Numerous people witnessed the attack and went to help the victim, according to police.Officials said the woman was treated by first responders for moderate injuries.In a press release, officials said Brian Robert Sprinkle, 39, of La Jolla, "was participating in a surf competition when he exited the water and assaulted the woman without provocation."Sprinkle was booked in the San Luis Obispo County Jail on felony charges of elder abuse and battery, according to Morro Bay police.Officers also found a firearm with Sprinkle's property and seized it.It is believed the suspect was under the influence of marijuana and hallucinogenic drugs, police said in a statement.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Morro Bay Police Department (805) 772-6225.While police say Sprinkle was taking part in the Big, Bad and Ugly surf competition, surf contest organizers tell KSBY News he was not registered with the contest and is not affiliated with any of the surf clubs that participated.ABC 10News affiliate KSBY News contributed to this report. 1497

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is now threatening swift punishment and even legal action against guests and hosts who throw or allow parties.The vacation rental giant says it is banning parties and capping occupancy to 16. The company cited COVID restrictions as part of its rationale."Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform," Airbnb said in a statement. "We think such conduct is incredibly irresponsible – we do not want that type of business, and anyone engaged in or allowing that behavior does not belong on our platform."In San Diego, home to at least 11,000 vacation rentals, both residents and hosts praised the move. Andrew Kaperonis owns a home in Mission Beach sandwiched between two vacation rentals. Things got so bad with the unit to the south that he took the owner to court, ultimately making the situation better with a required seven-day minimum stay. It still, however, is a vacation rental. "You get a little bit of anxiety because you just don't know who you are going to get," he said. "You're always kind of looking around and going, 'oh, who's checking in today?'"Kaperonis said Airbnb's party ban is a step in the right direction, but questioned how it would be enforceable. Airbnb says it maintains a 24-hour hotline and rapid response teams. People can also message the site. Hosts also told ABC-10News they backed the move. Blaine Smith, owner of 710 Vacation Rentals, which manages 180 listings largely in Mission Beach, said it's good Airbnb is holding people accountable.Smith says he vets reservations and will decline them if he senses there will be a problem, but not everyone does. "I know a lot of these neighbors, I'm not trying to upset any one of them, whereas if you're a single owner that does not live in the area, I think that's where a lot of the issues come from," he said. Cy Pilkington, who manages four vacation rentals in La Jolla and Pacific Beach, said he was glad Airbnb was taking the stance. He is an on-site manager for three of the units and does not allow parties. "We want people to be able to come and enjoy a piece of our life that they normally can't have, when they live inland or hotter communities or rural communities that want to come and enjoy the beach," he said. The city of San Diego has failed to implement any new regulations on vacation rentals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Amazon delivery driver was caught on video tossing a package onto a driveway like it was a newspaper, and the customer is not happy about it. “I order books. I’ve ordered Echos. I’ve ordered cameras on Amazon,” Del Cerro resident Yung Jun Kim said. He was worried someone might, one day, steal a package.“I ordered the ring camera to monitor the delivery,” Kim said “The first time the Amazon delivery happened on-camera, the driver drove into the driveway, didn’t even get out of his car, rolled down his window and threw my package onto the driveway."Kim found the package on the porch when he got home. What happened was also caught on video.“It was really great, because my mailman came by about 15 minutes later and he picked it up from the driveway and left it on my doorstep,” Kim said.Kim thinks the Amazon deliver driver threw his neighbor's package as well.“The video showed him pulling into her driveway for about 10 seconds and pulling back out. So, in that time, I don’t think he got out of a car and went into her courtyard and delivered it that way," Kim said. "He probably just threw it on the driveway."This time, Kim’s package was not fragile - but the driver didn't know that. Kim emailed Amazon and complained.“Customer service responded that same day, and they gave me a long apology and said they were going to look into it, which, I don’t know if they did," he said. "They also gave me a credit for my troubles."Kim says he hopes Amazon will get better drivers, because based on the video - they've got at least one with a negative attitude. "It takes very little effort to get out of the car to make a delivery onto a porch," Kim said. 10News reached out to Amazon.
