Usually, Friday the 13th has a bad connotation around it. But for the tattoo industry, it's an exciting day — it's known as the unofficial National Tattoo Day. Certified Tattoo Studios in Denver has been hosting a Friday the 13th event for over 10 years. A line of people were waiting outside their doors ahead of the shop opening. Ruth came with her daughter Alana to get her first tattoo. Ruth said she never wanted one until her daughter talked her into getting matching ones. "I'm planning on getting one and done," Ruth said. "It's just a great way for us to give back to our community and offer a cheaper rate for a tattoo that might normally cost a lot more," Certified Tattoos Studios owner Nando Mondragon said. Tattoos can be expensive. But Certified Tattoos Studios is doing them for less than . The studio gives customers the sheets of small "flash" tattoos to choose from. Ruth and her daughter chose matching heart tattoos to place on their wrist. Because the tattoos are so small, they take less than 10 minutes. Ruth can now say she has a tattoo. "I love it. The NASA SpaceX Crew Dragon took off into the sky over the weekend. It was SpaceX’s first crewed mission in history. For some, it seemed like a pipe dream. But the launch’s success crested a renewed sense of hope for the future of the industry.“It’s one of those things where any success in the commercial space realm is beneficial to all of the players in that realm,” Dave Ruppel explained. Ruppel is the Director at the Colorado Air and Space Port, one of the 12 licensed spaceports in the U.S. approved for launching spacecraft.He said successful events like this help build interest and trust with the public. “Things like the SpaceX launch kind of bring the average person into that discussion, and help them realize how much is happening out there,” Ruppel said. “Now we know it’s going to be safe. We know it can be successful.”And it could create more opportunities for the general public to experience space. “Their goal is to make that a possibility more for the average person, not the superhuman NASA astronaut,” Ruppel said. Space travel has come a long way, from historical milestones to a possible vacation destination. “When you get into the 1960s and people actually start going into space, there are thoughts about how we might create some kind of place where people could go and visit,” said Jennifer Levasseur, Museum Curator at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. “Fantasies about space hotels or the future of space travel.”She said while more commercial trips are possible in the future, there are some factors to consider. One of those factors is price. “Even a flight on the least expensive means...is really pricey,” Levasseur said. “This is definitely an elite thing.”And then there is safety to consider. “Putting a person on top of that vehicle really complicates that scenario, it ups the risk factor,” she said. “For somebody to just buy a ticket and go there, there needs to be a different level of security with that.” Space Adventures is one of the private companies offering those trips. “Space flight is not a risk-free endeavor,” said Tom Shelley, President of Space Adventures. “We arranged for the very first fair paying private individual flight to space. That was Dennis Tito in 2001,” he explained. They offer a multitude of adventures. They offer suborbital flights that give participants five minutes in space for a price in the six figure category, to flights a couple hundred miles above the earth for multiple days, which costs a prettier penny. “It’s going to remain in the multi-millions, probably in the tens of millions of dollars in the foreseeable future,” Shelley said. “And that’s just to do with the pure physicals of what is involved.” He said as flights become more frequent, prices may come down. But that probably won’t happen anytime soon. “This was a big milestone. It’s been a long time coming. The SpaceX Dragon was conceived originally as a vehicle fair paying individuals would eventually be able to fly on,” Shelley explained. As scientists and visionaries bring us closer to the final frontier, the idea of space tourism still raises a lot of questions. “Every time we’re successful, we build on that confidence that we want people to have in the activities. It’s the same thing that’s happened over years in aviation. And today we are all very comfortable with going and taking a flight anywhere in the world,” Ruppel said.“It’s going to be a little while I think still, until we see legitimate what we think of as space tourism,” Levasseur said.  3549

A Cincinnati teenager's trip to Santa's Wonderland today did not turn out as expected.13-year-old Carlo Averion showed up, and received a life-changing gift: digital glasses to help him see again. Averion suffers from Stargardt's Disease, a progressive disease that's causing him to lose his sight. The disease causes macular degeneration, and currently there is no cure for it. The glasses are manufactured by a company called E-Sight, and their website claims the glasses work through a mix of optical and computer technology "to stimulate he remaining photoreceptors in your eyes, sending more information to the brain and enhancing your ability to see clearly." These glasses were purchased with a combination of donated funds and grant money. "We have people that donated and we don't even know who they are, and we're very grateful for their generosity," said Lisa Averion, Carlo's mother. Carlo says he's excited to be able to see again, but he still has one simple wish:"When school starts back up, I just want to sit at my desk and read something on the board," he said. "It's really just the small things that I want to look at that people normally take for granted in life." The glasses were provided for Carlo thropugh donations, and a grant from the First Hand Foundation, a non-profit that helps provide children with health-related needs. 1366

The Phoenix Police Department released video Wednesday of a frightening moment involving a red-light runner and a family crossing the street with a stroller. Police say the incident happened on October 14, around 10 p.m.Watch video of the incident in the player above. Police say the driver who ran the red-light, 23-year-old Ernesto Otanez Oveso, was driving under the influence at the time. The driver with the right-of-way in the crash was injured, but the injuries were not life-threatening. After the crash, police say Oveso fled the scene along with a female passenger. Oveso allegedly told a witness that was following him to get away, and stabbed the car door of the witness.Oveso has been arrested and faces charges for DUI, aggravated assault and prohibited possession after a gun was found in his Jeep. The female passenger has not been located. 870

Steven Jean-Pierre is still coming to terms with the fact that his 11-year-old son, Cameron, is gone, after suffering an apparent allergic reaction.The father says the boy was at his grandmother's house on New Year’s, when fish was being cooked on the stove. That was apparently all it took to trigger a severe asthma attack. The 11-year-old boy’s story isn’t the only one making news. Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel posted on Twitter about her own severe fish allergy this week. She said she gave an airline a heads up about her fish allergy, but when she boarded, she said they were serving bass. She wrote fish allergens can be “transmitted by touch and air.” Dr. Moshe Ben-Shoshan confirms it’s possible. Ben-Shoshan specializes in allergy and immunology at Montreal Children’s Hospital and says about 10 percent of people with fish allergies can have airborne reactions. "We always tell parents that have children with fish or shellfish allergy to be careful when someone is cooking seafood around them, because the vapor can contain the allergen," Ben-Shoshan says. Ben-Shoshan says that when cooking around young children, be sure to watch for symptoms like trouble breathing or hives, and to help prevent the development of food allergies, he recommends introducing a variety of foods into their diets as early as possible 1371
