SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A wildlife overpass near Salt Lake City is proving to be successful at helping animals safely migrate over a busy interstate.The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) hailed the Parley's Canyon overpass a success in a recent Facebook post, saying it has also helped motorists stay much safer as well.In its Facebook post, UDWR included video that show many animals using the overpass to safely cross to the other side of Interstate 80. Cameras set up along the bridge captured moose, bears, porcupines, squirrels, mountain lions, deer, coyotes, and other critters.The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Utah State University have been monitoring the overpass throughout the year.The overpass opened in December 2018. UDOT says it spans six lanes of interstate and was constructed to improve safety on I-80 by reducing wildlife and vehicle collisions.UDOT coordinated with UDWR on the wildlife issues specific to the project, including wildlife migration patterns.While it may be tempting to visit the bridge in an attempt to spot some critters, UDWR says to keep off the overpass and not disturb the animals. 1154

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A construction project at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Office Building in downtown San Diego will result in a 21-month closure of a portion of Front Street, beginning Saturday.According to the U.S. General Services Administration, a two-block stretch of Front Street, between Broadway and West F Street, will be affected by the construction project, which is expected to last until June 2021. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be detoured around the project area.The project will reinforce and enhance the Front Street underpass beneath the Schwartz Federal Building. The project is designed to increase safety for the building's occupants as well as pedestrians and motorists, according to the GSA.The Federal Building's existing framing at the underpass will be reinforced with new steel beams, concrete paneling and column support structures, federal officials said.Signs will be in place on Interstate 5 to alert motorists to the closure as they enter downtown. The easternmost lane of Front Street between Broadway and E Street will provide access to the underground parking garage at 101 West Broadway and for turning city buses.Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except on weekends and holidays.The roadwork will be completed first, followed by pedestrian walkways with full-height walls to separate the road from walkways, according to the GSA."One of our strategic goals is better management of federal real estate and this GSA construction project allows for that while also being a catalyst for downtown revitalization," said GSA Regional Administrator Tom Scott. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- A woman was arrested after she allegedly threw a bag full of vomit at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City.West Valley police say Shaynell Pamela Payne, 25, entered the hospital's emergency room Tuesday night. After her arrival, Payne allegedly became argumentative and combative with the hospital staff.After Payne threw up in the emergency room, staff members handed her towels to clean up the vomit. When she threw up a second time in a bag, Payne reportedly became agitated when asked to calm down and threw the bag of vomit at a nurse.According to a police report, Payne attempted to leave the hospital after striking the nurse and assaulting other members of the medical staff.A police officer attempted to arrest Payne, who tried to grab the officer's hands and pull away. SAN DIEGO — Cindy Griffith is cherishing her days with her husband Matthew and one year old son, Wilder."I'm very blessed right now to have this time with them," she says. But this time is not totally stress free.That's because in the back of Griffith's mind is the fact that it's been more than two months since she filed for unemployment - yet to receive a dime."Everyday it's something that I constantly think about," she says. "It's eating at me, and I'm worried that it's not going to come."Cindy Griffith lost her job at an Encinitas restaurant when Coronavirus restrictions took effect. Matthew lost his restaurant job in Del Mar.Both filed for unemployment.Matthew got his right away - giving the family a much needed lifeline.Cindy, however, got a letter saying she needed to verify her identity - and the Social Security Number on the form was way off."I said there's no way I typed this in like that," she said. "I went back and checked my records and you could see that I put it in right."That letter came in early April. Cindy Griffith says she's called the E.D.D. hundreds of times since - even keeping her documents in Wilder's stroller in case she gets through on a walk.She confirmed the EDD received her identity information, but is always told her benefits are pending. The EDD reports that identity verification is its primary backlog. That division has grown from 13 people to 218. The agency training an additional 150 to help with the demand. Meanwhile, Griffith is falling behind on bills - and using credit card debt to get by."The hardest part is getting no answers," she says. "I think that's been the most frustrating, it's like what can I do?" 1680

Samuel and Ronan Peterson will have an interesting story to tell for the rest of their lives, thanks to Daylight Saving Time.The infant twins — born overnight on Nov. 6, 2016 — have a strange twist to their ages because of the time change.According to Cape Cod Healthcare in Massachusetts, Ronan is the older twin despite being born 31 minutes after Samuel.How does that work?According to hospital officials, Samuel was born at 1:39 a.m. Eastern and when his twin Ronan was born 31 minutes later, the clock had reset to 1:10 a.m., instead of being 2:10 a.m., because Daylight Saving Time had come to an end.So, despite technically being 31 minutes younger, Ronan's official time of birth is listed as 29 minutes earlier than Samuel's.One of the hospital's maternity nurses, who has 40 years on the job, said she'd never seen anything like it.Seth Peterson, the boys' father, figured something strange was going to happen due to his wife Emily giving birth on the night of Daylight Saving Time's end."I said earlier that night that they were either going to be born on two different days or the time change was going to come into play," he said, according to Cape Cod Healthcare.Clint Davis is a reporter for the Scripps National Desk.
