ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Sheriff’s Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation requested Wednesday the public’s help to find a man suspected of robbing an Alpine bank. The man held up the US Bank inside the Albertson’s grocery store (2955 Alpine Blvd.) on Tuesday about 4 p.m., deputies said. Investigators said the man approached the teller and presented a demand note. He took cash and ran away. Surveillance cameras show the man, who deputies said is Hispanic and in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a black shirt, black “LA” hat, and jeans. ALPINE, Calif. (CNS) - San Diego County officials opened an erosion control center in Alpine Thursday to help businesses and homeowners prevent debris flows in the areas burned by the Valley Fire.The center at 2914 Tavern Road will offer free sandbags, fiber rolls and other items to help residents stabilize properties before rains arrive and potentially trigger mudslides and debris flows, county officials said.Starting Thursday, the center will be open to business and property owners from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments are not required this weekend, but will be required starting on Monday.Residents and business owners can schedule an appointment to pick up erosion control materials by calling the county's stormwater hotline at 888-846-0800.Staff will be available to advise on how to protect properties, homes, garages, sheds and other structures. Staff can also visually inspect properties and offer information on best practices to protect structures.As of Wednesday morning, the Valley Fire remained at 17,665 acres and was 90% contained, according to a Cleveland National Forest incident page.The conflagration, which broke out early on the afternoon of Sept. 5 off Spirit Trail and Carveacre Road in Japatul Valley, ultimately destroyed 30 residences and 31 outbuildings, damaged 11 other structures and left three firefighters injured, according to Cal Fire.Jamul resident Jim Grigsby told ABC 10News, “The fire burned down three of my neighbors' houses. And I’m looking out through my window now and it’s kind of sad ... We’ve been through three fires out here, and this is the first time it got this close so we had to get all of this stuff out.”On Thursday, Grigsby went to the erosion center to pick up “fiber coils or swaddle to divert water and use them to fil up the sandbags and build a retaining wall to the gullies on the property." 1934

Amazon said that beginning Tuesday, customers at its two Amazon Go stores in Seattle can use a device that will scan their palms before entering the store that will sync to their credit card with their hand signature.The company announced the launch in a blog post."We believe Amazon One has broad applicability beyond our retail stores, so we also plan to offer the service to third parties like retailers, stadiums, and office buildings so that more people can benefit from this ease and convenience in more places," Dilip Kumar, Vice President Physical Retail & Technology at Amazon, said in the blog post.The way the contactless device Amazon One works is that customers will insert their credit card into the device, hover their hand over the scanner, and follow the prompts to associate the card with their palm signature built for them by the machine.The company said customers could use both palms or one to enroll. Allergan has recalled almost 170,000 sample packs of birth control pills because of a packaging error that could put consumers at risk for unintended pregnancy.According to the recall, four placebo capsules were placed out of order in a sample pack of Taytulla and the first four days of therapy had four non-hormonal placebo capsules instead of active capsules."As a result of this packaging error, oral contraceptive capsules, that are taken out of sequence, may place the user at risk for contraceptive failure and unintended pregnancy," The recall states. "The reversing of the order may not be apparent to either new users or previous users of the product, increasing the likelihood of taking the capsules out of order."Allergan says they are notifying customers by recall letter and is arranging for return of all recalled sample pack product with the lot #5620706 Exp. About 60 percent of restaurants that had to close during the pandemic are now permanently closed, according to review site Yelp.Across industries, Yelp reports that 132,580 businesses that were listed as “open” on March 1 are now marked “closed”, and roughly 55 percent of those closures are permanent. Those percentages translate to 72,842 businesses permanently closed as of July 10 that were open in March, and more than 15,700 of those are restaurants.Las Vegas is suffering from the highest rate of closed businesses, with 861 that are now permanently closed. Las Vegas has seen a huge decrease in tourism, and according to Yelp, this accounts for the spike in closures.The rate of permanent closures has increased since April as the coronavirus pandemic spreads and businesses of all kinds are forced to close or adjust how they interact with customers, sometimes resulting in fewer sales. Yelp reports that the number of total closures, though, has fluctuated as states reopen and close down again based on outbreaks.However, some businesses are seeing far fewer permanent closures. These include professional services like lawyers, accountants, web design and tutors or educators. Health services like physicians, mental health services, and health coaches are also seeing fewer permanent closures during the pandemic.“With nearly every state (and even county) taking a tailored approach to reopening local economies we expect these shifts in consumer interest and business closures to continue to move at an unpredictable pace,” the report stated.As businesses opened up in June, Yelp reports that people are searching for alcohol-related experiences, with an increase in searches for wineries (up 51 percent since May), cideries (up 39 percent) and breweries (up 24 percent).
