SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, CVS pharmacists started vaccinating nursing home residents and staff in San Diego and across the state. CVS expects to give the vaccine to around 700,000 people across the state.“We've really tried to be careful. We've had no COVID-19 cases, thank the Lord, at our skilled nursing facilities,” Ellen Schmeding with San Diego’s St. Paul’s Senior Services told ABC10 News on Monday. Residents at its Banker’s Hill location start having access to the vaccine this Wednesday. “They've been around. They've seen polio and small pox. They know what a great gift it is to have the vaccine available right now,” she added.CVS Health District Leader Lisa Kalajian told ABC10 News on Monday, “We have 40,000 long term care facilities that opted to go with us for vaccinations nationwide and 15,000 of those are in California.” Over the next 12 weeks, she said that the company will begin with vaccinating residents and staff at nursing homes, followed by residents and staff at assisted living facilities.Kalajian said that the company can't provide the list of facilities in San Diego, where the county is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases. The latest numbers show there are 48 active outbreaks at those type of facilities. She said that the company plans to enter long term care facilities three times. Once for the initial vaccination, then for the booster shot and finally to cover anyone who was left behind.The goal, she told ABC10 News, is to eventually offer the shot to the general public at in-store locations, although that's not been finalized. “We are starting with long term care facilities but are contracted to move onto the general public. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are seeking the public's help identifying two armed robbery suspects they say hit a Carmel Valley gas station last month.A man entered the Shell gas station located at 3861 Valley Centre Drive just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 25, San Diego Police (SDPD) said in a release. The man asked the station clerk to use the bathroom and when he returned, he was armed with a machete and wearing a mask.The man demanded money from the cash register and the clerk complied, SDPD said.The man then fled westbound from the gas station.Police said the clerk noticed a woman driving a gold-colored pickup truck, believed to be a Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab, toward the man as he was running away. The clerk told police he had recognized the man and woman inside the store a few days prior to the robbery.The man described as white, in his late 20s to mid-30s, about 5-foot-7, and with medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white California bear on the front, blue jeans, a dark grey or blue baseball cap with "Ford" on it, and blue Keds shoes.He was also carrying a green backpack and has a wraparound band-style tattoo on his left arm.The woman was described as white, in her 40s, with long dark hair, and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.Anyone with information is asked to call SDPD's robbery unit at 619-531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1435

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Portable restrooms to combat the hepatitis A outbreak are being installed in downtown San Diego for the homeless.The City of San Diego is providing restrooms, hand-washing stations and security guards to stop the spread of the disease.The restrooms will be cleaned twice a day.RELATED: How to tell if you have hepatitis AKen Slusher, a homeless Navy veteran, has used the restrooms twice since the City installed them on C St. and First Ave.Slasher is concerned the restrooms won’t be around long.Despite the 24/7 security, Slusher said he found a needle on the floor during one of his trips to the restroom.RELATED: Los Angeles hepatitis A cases linked to San Diego outbreak“It was already used, the cap was off, the needle was exposed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Next time you head off to your gate to catch your flight, make sure you look over your bin upon leaving the TSA checkpoint.Transportation Security Administration officials say the agency collected 6,030.44 in unclaimed money that passengers left behind at security checkpoints last fiscal year, between Oct. 1, 2018, and Sept. 30, 2019. Of that, ,899.09 was in foreign currency.In San Diego, airport officials say ,809.39 was left behind by travelers.TSA says the money consisted of loose change and paper currency passengers removed from and left in bins during the security screening process.While San Diego saw nearly ,000 left behind, it was nowhere close to the top five U.S. airports:John F. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More rain arrived in San Diego Wednesday, less than a week after a storm swept through the county, leaving some areas flooded and city crews preparing for the wet weather.In Coronado, on First Street, crews worked to clear pipes near the shoreline. This is a large reason for flooding in the area. Public Services Director, Clifford Maurer, says flooding comes after sand and sediment gets into the storm drain from the high tides.“Some of the outfalls, the pipes that go into the bay or into the open waters have flapper valves on them. So they only allow water to go out, not come in,” says Maurer. “But when the water is above those valves there’s nothing you can do. The bags are already filled and can be picked up at four different locations around the island.The City of San Diego is also preparing for the rain.
