SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was shot Sunday outside of a College Area smoke shop, according to police.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but San Diego Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been shot just before 5:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of El Cajon Blvd., outside of Aztec Smoke & Vape Shop.The victim was hit in the leg and chest and taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition was not clear.The area was closed by police for the investigation.10News is monitoring this breaking news. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Murder during rape is a special circumstance, meaning no bail for the man accused of killing an elderly woman in her Normal Heights home in 1987.Kevin Ford, 62, didn’t have much to say in court Tuesday, charged with the murder and rape of 79-year-old Grace Hayden. Some advances in technology and persistent police work helping make today happen after three decades.The video remains just as chilling today as it was 31 years ago. Hayden's body was wheeled out of her home. Her neighbor told 10News reporter Steve Fiorina back then, that she was a friendly neighbor."She was loveable, friendly, never bothered, as far as I know, anyone," the neighbor said."Never went out because she was something like handicapped. She was a nice lady," another neighbor said.The case went cold until a single fingerprint found on Hayden’s stove. And some hard work led investigators to an arrest in North Carolina.San Diego DA investigator Tony Johnson was reviewing the unsolved case when he found that fingerprint. He submitted it to a national database and got a hit from a 20-15 warrant out of North Carolina.Three years ago he talked with KPBS saying, “a case goes cold primarily when the initial team that’s investigating the case has run out of leads.”Ford was extradited to San Diego. Tuesday, he was arraigned before a judge. A public defender said ford denies all charges.Ford is due back in court on Aug. 7. 1460

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Passengers in a deadly bus crash near Fallbrook on I-15 Saturday suffered broken bones, cuts and scrapes, according to California Highway Patrol.A 23-year-old woman from Mexico, a 73-year-old woman from Pasadena, and a 67-year-old woman from Riverside lost their lives in the crash.In a press release CHP stated 8 of the 20 passengers were from Mexico, one was from Temecula and the others were from Southern California. Their ages range from 5-years-old to 75-years-old.READ RELATED: At least three dead, 18 injured in bus rollover on Interstate 15The 5-year-old boy who was airlifted to the University of Riverside Health Services Medical Center has life threatening head injuries. He was from Mexico.Four passengers are being cared for at Inland Valley Medical Center. Seven are being treated at Temecula Valley Medical Center. Five are at the Palomar Medical Center.CHP issued a correction, saying there were 21 people total on the bus, instead of 22 as they reported Saturday. The error came from double counting the driver.CHP said the National Transportation and Safety Board is arriving Monday to investigate the crash.The bus crashed off the side of South Bound I-15 around 10:25 a.m. Saturday while rain was falling south of Fallbrook. 1272

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Quiet neighborhood walks have turned disturbing for a growing number of women in Rancho Bernardo.Along Paseo Lucido, feet from a park, Lauren was walking her dog one early evening two weeks ago. She walked past the passenger side of an older, white, 2-door Toyota."The front windows were down and the seat was back ... looked over inside the car and saw he was exposing himself and touching himself," said Lauren.'He' was a large man in his 30s with short dark hair."He smiled when he saw me looking. I immediately looked away. Just very anxious and scared," said Lauren.Lauren took off for a neighbor's house. When she returned minutes later, the car was gone. About a week later - around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday - Robbie was blocks away on Avenida Venusto when a similar car, driven by a man with a similar description, pulled ahead of her and parked in a red zone."Kind of slouched back. He has his pants down, and he's actively touching himself," said Robbie.And again, the stranger met a woman's glance before driving off."And he looked up at me with a big smile on his face," said Robbie. These women aren't alone, as Lauren found out when she posted her incident on the Nextdoor app for her area."There are at least seven other women who have encountered this person in the last few months," said Lauren.In many cases, the women report the car pulling ahead and stopping. "I think he's targeting women who are walking by themselves or slowly walking their dogs by themselves," said Lauren.In one of the other reports, a woman says the man was driving a gray Honda. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Monday, community leaders demanded reforms following the release of body camera video showing San Diego police officers shooting a robbery suspect over the weekend.Monday, SDPD said he was in the ICU with life-threatening injuries.“I'm asking for SDPD to put an aggressive plan together to ensure that [with] any officer-involved shooting that within 48 hours to 72 hours a video from the body worn camera footage is released,” said Rev. Shane Harris with the People’s Alliance for Justice.Body camera video released on Sunday by SDPD shows the moment leading up to Saturday's shooting. Police said they were patrolling Downtown when they saw Leonardo Hurtado Ibarra in a red jumpsuit and recognized he was wanted for a robbery.From a street camera, Ibarra is seen reaching in his waistband and raising his arms toward officers. Under Ibarra, body camera footage shows what police said was a gun wrapped in a bandana.“They went in guns blazing and this is not the training that they have,” said community activist Tasha Williamson on Monday. She added that the police should have called for back-up before the confrontation.“People are saying he pointed the gun at the officer and we're simply saying how is that because the officer on video show him running sideways behind the suspect to a cover which was the vehicle,” she said.“They used verbal commands. They followed what their training is and they did an exceptional job,” said former SWAT commander and lethal force instructor Ray Shay when he spoke to ABC10 News on Sunday.“It's unfortunate the gentleman was shot but you'll see that the police officer- after shooting the suspect and getting him handcuffed- immediately calls for an ambulance and here are these two young officers doing CPR to try to save the life of the man who just tried to kill them,” he added.Activists are now urging SDPD to release videos of future shootings as quickly as they did they this time and to release videos before still images.“We want a whole perspective of a situation. Not a half-perspective,” added Harris.Harris also wants the DA’s Office to form a special unit to investigative police misconduct and officer shootings. He’s also calling for more officer training on racial and implicit bias.ABC10 News asked SDPD about the calls for reforms and we are waiting for a reply.SDPD is still investigating Saturday’s shooting.
