SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Dozens of migrants seeking asylum in the United States are being processed Tuesday afternoon, according to an attorney.Eight migrants were allowed in for processing Monday night followed by dozens more Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rest of the migrant caravan is waiting in Tijuana to be allowed in and processed. The attorney, who is working with the group of migrants, said members of the caravan were asked to choose among themselves who would be processed.MAP: Where is the migrant caravan from?Women and children were reportedly in the first groups of migrants selected Monday and Tuesday. An official with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that, although this group of migrants has been gaining national attention, the process the group is going through is standard.As far as the process the migrants are going through, CBP said that individuals who don’t have proper travel documents and try to enter into the U.S. may be subject to expedited removal.PHOTOS: Migrant caravan makes way to U.S-Mexico borderThose in expedited removal who express fear of return are then referred to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.Migrants then go through a “fear interview” to determine whether or not they have a credible fear of persecution or torture.The San Ysidro border inspection facility can hold 300 people. Between October of 2017 and February of 2018, 8,000 asylum cases were processed.RELATED: Migrant caravan waiting for entry at US-Mexico borderAccording to a CBP spokesperson, port capacity at San Ysidro is dependent on holding space, volume of traffic, officer resources and complexity of cases among other factors.“CBP is committed to maintaining security and meeting the health and safety needs of those persons in our custody, the traveling public, and officers and personnel. At times, this has required us to limit the number of people we can bring in the port facility for processing at a given time, including in 2016 when an influx of Haitians arrived at the California border, and as recently as within the past six months. In recent days, San Ysidro has exceeded port capacity due to an increase in arrivals of undocumented persons making asylum claims or presenting complex cases. Accordingly, CBP has had to limit the number of new arrivals for processing. CBP will continue to work with its interagency partners at ICE to ensure continued management of persons presenting without documents and appropriate care and custody of all those in our facility,” the spokesperson said in part.Migrants with the caravan have made their trip to the U.S.-Mexico border from three different countries in Central America. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) – A group of San Marcos neighbors say that a homeowner is terrorizing the community with threats and harassment, among other complaints. Neighbors are now banding together to sue him with the hope that he'll pack up and leave. Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner discovered that federal agents also seized explosives and ammunition from his house, that he wasn't supposed to have. Homeowner Mark Brody, though, denies all allegations of wrongdoing."You don't have to get along with all your neighbors. You don't have to be friends with all your neighbors, but you also don't have to terrorize them," says neighbor Heidi Hafley.Brody’s home sits behind a prominent security camera and high fences. “[It’s] a fortress,” says James Pyer, one of twelve neighbors who are suing Brody, accusing him in the lawsuit of threats, stalking, trespassing, and so on."This has been a nightmare," adds Hafley. She and Pyer got a restraining order against Brody.Court records show that Brody denies harming the neighborhood, but 10News dug into public records.According to a search warrant from last year, state investigators believed that Brody may have been harboring several weapons, even though he'd been banned from having firearms or ammo because of the restraining order. Agents reportedly found and seized 30 pounds of an explosive called tannerite that had to be turned over to a bomb squad. Additionally, they found four ammunition magazines and two rounds of caliber ammunition.“At one point they put everything in the middle of the street and told us to stand back,” says Hafley.This past May, he pleaded guilty to illegally having ammunition. He was given probation and community service.10News confirmed with the San Marcos Sheriff's Station that deputies have been called out to Brody's home more than 30 times since 2014. One Sheriff's report reveals accusations from neighbors that Brody had been shining a flashlight from his truck into Hafley's bedroom. In another report, neighbors claim he yelled that she was a "[expletive]".“I'm the main target now because I push back and I let him know [that] I'm not going to tolerate this,” she tells us.In fact, Brody tried to get a restraining order against Hafley, but failed.The City of San Marcos confirmed with 10News that there have been a number of code compliance violations issued to Brody.A cease and desist order from the City to Brody includes a photo of an unauthorized traffic control sign that Brody allegedly installed. Neighbors say that he spray painted the street, put in a speed bump and put up notices meant to insult his neighbors. Hafley adds that the signs would state, "'Watch for the cows crossing,’ which he's referencing myself and my neighbor. He would [write], ‘The old bat,” which is my nextdoor neighbor [and he would write], ‘The troll,’ which is me."Brody would not do an interview with 10News. In a court response, he wrote that he categorically denies the allegations and claims to have never acted [violently] towards the neighbors."We don't go out of our houses anymore. Children don't play on the street," says Hafley.She and the eleven others on the new lawsuit against him just want him to move out so they can move on. “I don't want any other neighborhood to go through this," she adds.Each neighbor is asking for at least ,000 in damages. The privately-held Seattle-based company says it has agreed to sell its remaining stores to affiliates of Fortress Investment Group following the bankruptcy procedure and store closures. “This sale process will result in a revitalized Sur La Table, positioned to thrive in a post-COVID-19 retail environment," CEO Jason Goldberger said in the press release. "Sur La Table will have a balance sheet and retail footprint optimized to position the Company for a bright future that continues our nearly 50-year tradition of offering high-quality cooking products and experiences to our customers.”The post-sale company will also include its in-person and online cooking classes and its e-commerce business. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An attorney for a U.S. college student and her boyfriend who have been sentenced to four months in prison in the Cayman Islands for violating strict COVID-19 measures says he plans to appeal the recent ruling.Their attorney Jonathon Hughes says Skylar Mack, 18, of Georgia, and Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, of the Cayman Islands, have been in prison since Tuesday.He says he will argue for a less severe sentence next week and says the two have never been in trouble with the police.Mack is accused of breaking a mandatory two-week quarantine.Hughes told the Associated Press that on Nov. 27, Mack arrived in the Cayman Islands.But instead of undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event on Nov. 29, the AP reported.According to the AP, a judge ruled that Mack and Ramgeet pay a ,400 fine and provide 40 hours of community service. Ramgeet was also ordered to a two-month curfew, but prosecutors appealed, saying the punishment was lenient.On Dec. 15, a higher court ruled in favor of the prosecutors, and the couple was immediately imprisoned, the AP reported.Mack's grandmother told the AP that she emailed President Donald Trump and received a response saying the White House would look into it. 1309

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. – A babysitter in Georgia has been charged with the murder of a 2-year-old girl who was under her care.The Sandy Springs Police Department said in a statement Tuesday that it began investigating on Dec. 9, when it received a report of an unresponsive child inside an apartment.First responders rushed the girl to an Atlanta-area hospital, where police say she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.Detectives say the child had been in the care of her babysitter at the time, 29-year-old Kirstie Flood.Later, police say an autopsy performed on the child revealed she suffered severe injuries that resulted in her death while under the care of Flood.Flood has since been arrested and charged with two counts of felony murder, one count of malice murder, one count of aggravated battery, and one count of cruelty to children.The police department didn’t release the identity of the victim. However, loved ones have told news outlets in the Atlanta area that the girl’s name was Fallon Fridley.Fallon’s parents told WSB-TV that Flood had been their full-time babysitter since August and they never suspected she would be capable of something like this.According to a warrant obtained by WSB-TV, police allegedly discovered Flood had been searching things on her phone, like “what type of people enjoy abusing other people’s children” and “what does it mean to have a sudden urge to beat a child that’s not yours.”Authorities are continuing to investigate.
