BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Sudanese Mining Minister Abdel-Bagi Gailani said here Monday that Sudan is seeking to strengthen cooperation with China in the mining sector.Sudan is a vast country with rich mineral resources, said the minister. However, the country's abundant mineral resources are yet to be explored and utilized due to various reasons such as technical and financial constraints, he told Xinhua.Sudan welcomes and encourages Chinese companies to do business and to invest in his country, hoping that the two countries could diversify mutually beneficial cooperation, said Gailani.Sudan aims to utilize its resources in an efficient and rational manner through sharing China's advanced technologies and learning from the country's rich experiences and increasing financial input in the mining sector in a bid to step up the development of its national economy, the minister added.Gailani was in China for the 12th China Mining Congress & Expo, which will be held in the northern port city of Tianjin from Tuesday to Thursday.The annual event is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants from over 50 countries and regions.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese Internet giants -- Tencent and Qihoo 360, apologized to Internet users after being ordered to stop their spat and officials vowed to investigate the dispute to determine whether actions by either company had broken the law.Both of the companies posted an apology letter on the company websites Sunday night.Qihoo 360 said the companies' software had resumed operation and the two sides would stop mutual accusations.This was after China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Sunday ordered the two companies to publicly apologize within five working days.The business war between the two Internet giants had triggered a public outcry.Tencent, China's largest Internet company, said on Nov. 3 that it would shut down the QQ instant-messaging service on computers installed with security software made by Qihoo 360 following a dispute between the companies.Tencent's move marked an escalation in its dispute with Qihoo 360 that began more than one month ago. The two sides have accused the other of improper business practices.On Sept. 27, Qihoo 360 accused QQ of invading the privacy of its users through scanning, monitoring and loading information with QQ doctor, a security software developed by Tencent.Following this, Qihoo 360 released a safety software called "Koukou Guard" on Oct. 29, claiming it could speed up QQ and offer more privacy to its users. ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Seven company executives were suspended from duty or removed Monday after 26 miners were killed in a gas explosion in an illegally operated coal mine on Dec. 7 in central China's Henan Province, according to the group's spokesman.Forty-six miners were working underground when the blast occurred at the Juyuan Coal Mine, owned by Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. in Mianchi County, Sanmenxia City. The company is being merged into Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Deputy general manager, Li Jianxin, of Yi Ma Coal Industry Group, the mine's prospective parent company, was suspended from duty pending investigation. Li was in charge of the group's merger and regrouping, said the group's spokesman.Manager Yao Nianshou and four deputy managers who were sent by the group to Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. were also removed, he said.The spokesman said the decisions to discipline the executives have been approved by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Henan Province. The final punishment for those responsible for the incident will be decided based on the findings of the on-going investigation.Managers of the Juyuan Coal Mine did not obtain a license to excavate coal from the site in Mianchi County, where the explosion occurred. Mine managers also ignored an order to halt production, as the mine's operations are being reorganized as part of the merger.The mine had been known as the Suzhuang Coal Mine and was later re-launched as Juyuan when it was merged into the large state-owned conglomerate Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Police said they arrested the owner of the mine, Suo Yonggang, who allegedly hid the bodies of the victims to lessen the casualty count. Suo fled the mine following the blast.Mine managers first reported that only 20 miners were trapped when the blast occurred. Provincial work safety authorities updated the figure to 33 and then to 46 as investigators found more bodies in the mine. Only 20 miners survived.

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, rose to a 28-month high of 5.1 percent in November, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday.The growth rate picked up from 4.4 percent in October, according to the NBS. The inflation was driven by a 11.7 percent of surge in food prices, which accounts for one third of the basket of goods used to calculate China's CPI.The year-on-year increase in food prices grew from rises of 10.1 percent in October, 8 percent in September and 7.5 percent in August.From January to November, China's CPI rose 3.2 percent year on year, surpassing the government's target ceiling of 3 percent for the year.The producer price index (PPI) for China's industrial products rose 6.1 percent year on year in November, compared with a 5.0 percent gain in October.

CHENGDU, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-eight miners were trapped in a colliery flood in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Sunday, the local safety watchdog said.The accident happened at 11 a.m. in Weiyuan County of Neijiang City.Altogether 41 miners were working underground when a pit of Batian Coal Mine was flooded. Thirteen of them escaped, said Lin Shucheng, chief of the provincial work safety bureau.He said rescuers had begun pumping flood water from the pit early in the afternoon.
