President Donald Trump said Monday he will make a decision as early as this evening on the US response to what he called an "atrocious" chemical weapons attack on civilians in Syria and warned that he will hold the responsible parties accountable."We cannot allow atrocities like that. Cannot allow it," Trump told reporters on Monday during a Cabinet meeting as he warned that "nothing's off the table." "If it's Russia, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out and we'll know the answers quite soon"Pressed on Russia's role in the suspected chemical weapons attack, Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin -- who backs the Syrian regime -- "may" bear responsibility."He may. And if he does, it's gonna be very tough. Very tough," Trump said of the US response. "Everybody's gonna pay a price. He will and everybody will."The Syrian government and Russia have vehemently denied involvement in the attack and accused rebels in Douma of fabricating the chemical attack claims in order to hinder the army's advances and provoke international military intervention.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that his country had sent experts to Douma and that there was "no trace" of the use of chemical weapons there.Trump's comments are his first public remarks on the attack, which killed dozens of civilians, since he tweeted about it on Sunday and warned of a "big price to pay" for those responsible. His statement comes almost exactly a year after he fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian airbase in response to a chemical weapons attack against civilians.Trump said the US is still working to determine who is directly responsible for the attack, which was widely publicized in recent days after graphic on the ground footage of victims was shown around the world. Trump said his decision could come as early as the end of Monday or within the next 48 hours."I'd like to begin by condemning the heinous attack on innocent Syrians with banned chemical weapons," Trump said. "It was an atrocious attack, it was horrible. You don't see things like that as bad as the news is around the world, you just don't see those images.""We are very concerned, when a thing like that can happen, this is about humanity. We're talking about humanity. And it can't be allowed to happen," he added.Trump expressed frustration at investigators not being able to get immediate answers about who was behind the attack and said the US is working "to get people in there."The attack comes about a week after Trump told military leaders to draw up plans to prepare a withdrawal of the remaining US troops from Syria. Pressed Monday on whether those plans still stand, Trump simply told reporters: "We're gonna make a decision on all of that, in particular Syria, we'll be making that decision very quickly, probably by the end of today."  2884

President Donald Trump promised Tuesday his proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum will be applied in a "very loving way."Trump said the measures were necessary to balance global trade deficits."The United States has been taken advantage of by other countries, both friendly and not so friendly," Trump said during a news conference with his Swedish counterpart. The President said he didn't blame individual countries but instead past presidents for allowing trade deficits to balloon."I don't blame the countries," he said. "I blame our leadership for allowing it to happen."He singled out the European Union in particular, saying barriers on trade made it difficult for US goods to enter the bloc."The European Union has been particularly tough on the US. they make it almost impossible for us to do business with them," he said.Earlier Tuesday, Trump attempted to rebut claims that his West Wing is rattled with disorder and low morale. But his message on Twitter only heightened speculation that some aides may soon depart the White House."The new Fake News narrative is that there is CHAOS in the White House. Wrong!" Trump wrote. "People will always come & go, and I want strong dialogue before making a final decision. I still have some people that I want to change (always seeking perfection). There is no Chaos, only great Energy!"The news conference also provided Trump an opportunity to weigh in on upcoming talks between North and South Korea, which were announced Tuesday. Trump has said talks between the US and North Korea must only begin after Pyongyang agrees to denuclearization.Unlike the United States, Sweden has a diplomatic relationship with North Korea. Prime Minister Stefan L?fven has offered to assist the United States in its efforts to end the nuclear crisis there.L?fven is the first European leader to visit the White House since Trump announced he would slap stiff new tariffs on steel and aluminum last week. The European Union has vowed to take reciprocal action, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker discussed the matter with L?fven before he arrived in Washington, according to Swedish news agencies.Trump hit back at the EU on Saturday during closed-press remarks to donors at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida."I will tell you the European Union -- brutal. They've been brutal to us," Trump said.He wrote on Twitter later that if the EU increases tariffs on US goods "we will simply apply a Tax on their Cars which freely pour into the U.S. They make it impossible for our cars (and more) to sell there. Big trade imbalance!"The remark alarmed European automakers, including Sweden's Volvo.Final details of the tariff plan aren't yet known, and foreign allies have been lobbying Trump over the phone to narrow the scope of his trade decision. Trump will meet with Swedish business representatives midday Tuesday before his news conference.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 3001

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Tropical Storm Marco is swirling over the Gulf of Mexico heading for a possible hit on the Louisiana coast as a hurricane Monday. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Laura has knocked utilities out as it batters Hispaniola, following a track forecast to take it to the same part of the U.S. coast later in the week, also as a hurricane. It would be the first time two hurricanes appear in the Gulf of Mexico simultaneously, according to records dating to at least 1900.On Saturday, the storms dumped rain on Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, while the other swept into the gulf through the gap between Cuba and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.A hurricane watch has been issued for the New Orleans metro area, which Hurricane Katrina pummeled in August 2005. 773

President Donald Trump said in a statement that he will contest President-Elect Joe Biden’s win, adding that he does not accept the result of last Tuesday’s election.Saturday morning, the Associated Press projected Biden to win the state of Pennsylvania, which gives him a projected 290 Electoral College votes to become president. Biden is leading Pennsylvania by more than 34,000 votes with a small number of ballots left to be counted. Moments after Pennsylvania was called, the Associated Press also called Nevada, meaning even if Biden had not won Pennsylvania, he would reach 270 Electoral College votes. Despite few ballots being left to be counted in Pennsylvania and Biden leading by .5%, Trump says he will fight the result. “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over,” the Trump campaign said in a statement. “Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.” The ballots left to be counted are provisional ballots, with some leftover mail-in ballots. The final certification of the election in Pennsylvania comes on November 23.The Trump campaign alleged that it received improper access to monitor counting in Philadelphia. Earlier this week, the Trump campaign won a lawsuit that allowed them to stand 6 feet from vote counters instead of 20 feet.“Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election," the campaign said. For days, Trump claimed the election was being stolen, despite no evidence of any widespread miscounting or fraud. For months, Trump sowed doubt in the mail-in vote process. In many states, like Pennsylvania, his supporters listened by voting in person rather than through the mail.In Pennsylvania, Trump won the Election Day vote by a 2-to-1 margin, but trailed the mail-in vote by a 3-to-1 margin.“There’s tremendous amount of litigation generally because of how unfair this process was,” Trump said earlier this week. “And I predicted that. I've been talking about mail-in voting for a long time. It's, uh, it's really destroyed our system. It's a corrupt system, and it makes people corrupt, even if they aren't by nature, but they become corrupt.”Because of Pennsylvania state law, boards of elections were not permitted to count mail-in ballots until Tuesday. Mail-in ballots generally take longer to tabulate, which is why results were tabulated through the week. With mail-in votes taking longer to count in addition to the contrasting voting habits of Biden and Trump supporters, Trump's once monumental lead disappeared. Trump's lawyer Rudolph Giuliani, who was in disbelief that Trump lost a lead, said the president's legal strategy will initially begin in Pennsylvania. "Many big, big small(lawsuits)," he said. "This will eventually be a big case because this will go beyond Pennsylvania." 3429
