Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas, when it made landfall as a Category 5 storm this week. Sarah Ann Showell, whose family owns a resort on the island, has now seen the catastrophic damage for herself. “They don’t look anything [like] they’re supposed to,” she says. “Entire buildings are flattened, trees are all snapped like toothpicks, there’s no greenery left.”She flew over Green Turtle Cay, a Bahamian island hit by hurricane Dorian, to see what the storm had done. "It’s actually hard to figure out what you’re looking at, and these are places that you know very well," Showell says.Showell needed to see what the storm did to her family's resort, Green Turtle Club, the largest employer on the island with about 50 employees. While the storm left its mark, she says everyone she knows who stayed on this island for Dorian is safe. Her marina's docks are still standing, but some of the club’s buildings and many other of the island's structures are destroyed.“From the air, it’s pretty crazy to see because it’s really hard to recognize places that you’ve been going your whole life," she says.She is now leading an effort to get help to the people of the Bahamas. Hope Hicks, the former White House communications director and long-time confidante of President Donald Trump, plans to turn over documents to the House Judiciary Committee as part of its investigation into potential obstruction of justice.Rep. Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent Hicks a detailed letter earlier this month, asking for documents on a wide-range of topics, including over former national security adviser Michael Flynn's false statements to the FBI, the firing of then-FBI Director James Comey, Trump's involvement in a hush-money scheme to silence stories about his alleged affairs and the drafting of a misleading 2017 statement to the media about Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 meeting in Trump Tower with Russians.The request included documents from "any personal or work diary, journal or other book containing notes, a record or a description of daily events" about Trump, the Trump campaign, the Trump Organization and the executive office of the President.Hicks and other current administration officials have agreed to provide documents to the committee, according to Nadler's spokesman Daniel Schwarz. Four different crashes happened during fallen soldier Cpl. Thomas Walker's processional in Ohio, according to Cleveland Police Patrolman Association member Charlie McGeever. At least one of the crashes was critical. Gregory and Nina Barta were on vacation when they saw surveillance video of three people allegedly stealing from their home in Romulus, Michigan. Two of the suspects are complete strangers, but the third is their own 17-year-old son.The Bartas said that their son has had issues with truancy and incorrigibility but nothing like this. "It was devastating to see our own son carrying our belongings out of our house," said Gregory Barta. "It's very troubling but also very scary because we have daughters. What would have happened if they were home?"The couple immediately notified Romulus Police. Captain Joshua Monte said they are investigating and that the three suspects could face charges of home invasion and receiving and concealing stolen property. "You feel helpless," Nina Barta said.The couple's son had been living at home, but after the alleged burglary Monday afternoon, he didn't return. They tried to reach him through social media because he doesn't have a cell phone."Nothing he took was his. Everything was ours," said Gregory Barta. The items stolen include the couple's computer, jewelry, tools, televisions, and three firearms that were in a safe. Wednesday afternoon, Action News learned that police had taken the couple's son into custody. It's possible he saw his mother's Facebook post because he went to a store in Garden City where police said he told a worker that Romulus Police were looking for him. Garden City detained the teen for Romulus Police.Police said some of the stolen items were recovered, but not the guns.Captain Monte said investigators are still trying to identify and locate the two other suspects seen on surveillance video.
