BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The infant milk powder produced by most companies in China was safe according to the nationwide check results following the Sanlu baby formula scam, the country's State Council departments said on Tuesday.     The State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said it had tested 491 batches of baby milk powder produced by all the 109 companies in the country in a special inspection move. Tang Yiwen, 9-month old, is checked by doctor at a children's hospital in Guilin, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Sept. 16, 2008. The infant milk powder produced by most companies in China was safe according to the nationwide check results following the Sanlu baby formula scam, the country's State Council departments said on Tuesday. 69 batches from 22 companies nationwide were found containing melamine, a chemical which had tainted Sanlu's baby formula and led to kidney stone illness of more than 1,200 infants across the country.     The number of companies with melamine-tainted milk accounted for 20.18 percent of the total of milk powder companies in China. And the number of tainted batches accounted for 14.05 percent of the total batches tested.     The melamine content in the Sanlu brand reached 2,563 mg per kg, the highest among all the samples. In other samples, the range was from 0.09 mg to 619 mg per kilogram. Parents with their babies wait for examinations at a children's hospital in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province Sept. 16, 2008.Authorities have sealed the problematic milk powder products in companies, or removed them from store shelves and recalled all those sold.     Safe powder milk products will continue to be sold on market to ensure enough supply, according to the State Council.     To ensue the quality safety, the quality inspection bodies will dispatch supervisors to each baby milk powder company since Wednesday to oversee the quality of raw materials and production procedures. Every batch of products will be checked.     Sanlu, which is 43 percent owned by New Zealand dairy company Fonterra, has been ordered to halt production. BEIJING, May. 13 -- China's trade surplus decreased slightly last month from a year ago amid declines in international trade growth triggered by the global economic slowdown.     Monthly surplus reached 16.68 billion last month, down 1.14 percent year-on-year but up 24.5 percent from 13.4 billion U.S. dollars in March, the General Administration of Customs said yesterday.     Exports in April rose 21.8 percent year-on-year to 118.71 billion U.S. dollars, while imports rose 26.3 percent to 102.03 billion U.S. dollars. China's trade surplus decreased slightly last month from a year ago amid declines in international trade growth triggered by the global economic slowdown.(    The sharp decline in April's export growth after a 30.6 percent rise in March should be seen as a return to the medium-term trend rather than a sudden weakening in China's exports, said Sun Mingchun with Lehman Brothers.     He said year-on-year growth of exports in March 2008 was abnormally strong given exports in March 2007 were extremely weak because exporters had frontloaded their shipments last February.     China's trade surplus has been narrowing since the government took measures to curb exports of resource-intensive and heavily polluting products and started to encourage imports from last year.     The World Trade Organization has predicted global trade growth will decline to 4.5 percent, 1 percentage point lower than last year. It could be the slowest rise since 2002.     "The global economy is facing more uncertainties this year given the possible shrinkage in US demand and inflationary pressures. Both these factors are expected to aggravate the global economic slowdown, further affecting trade," said Liang Yanfen, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.     "Slowing external demand may take more time to impact export growth, but the weakening trend is becoming more evident both in and outside the US. Higher commodity prices and currency appreciation would check the continued rise in trade surplus," said Ken Peng, a Citi analyst.     Export growth stayed robust at 21.8 percent but is under pressure as even Asian demand has started to slow, suggesting that a weakening in the final product markets is affecting upstream producers while imports continue to be supported by a stronger currency, high commodity prices and government controls over trade in food and resources out of inflation concerns, he said.     The country's trade surplus in the first four months narrowed to 57.99 billion U.S. dollars, 5.31 billion U.S. dollars lower than a year ago.     Exports in these four months amounted to 424.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 21.5 percent, or 6 percentage points less than a year earlier. Imports were 366.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 27.9 percent, or 8.8 percentage points more than a year earlier.     Realized foreign investment reached 35.02 billion U.S. dollars during the four months, up 59.32 percent year-on-year, the Ministry of Commerce said.

BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official visited security checkpoints in Beijing and neighboring Hebei province on Monday, stressing both "strictness" and "convenience" as the watchwords for security forces.     "During the Olympics security work, we should not only stick to strictness and details, but also ensure civilized and convenient inspections for people," said Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, to the policemen at the forefront of the checkpoints.     Informed of the fact that some buses might be repeatedly checked, Zhou urged Beijing's municipal police bureau and Hebei's provincial police department to cooperate more. Zhou Yongkang (C), member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspects Liulihe public security inspection post in Fangshan District, Beijing, July 14, 2008. Zhou inspected public security posts around Beijing on Monday.    "Police should improve their methods and processes to avoid repeated checking and shorten the checking duration, ensuring convenience for people," said Zhou.     Passengers riding the Beijing metro and major bus routes began to undergo strict security checks at the end of June ahead of the Olympics, according to the Beijing police.     Meanwhile, the inspection process was going smoothly in the Olympic venues in Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao and Qinhuangdao. Local quality inspection authorities had organized emergency and rescue drills at venues in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province.     In addition, Zhou urged officials with the police departments to take care of the policemen's daily life and make reasonable working schedules to ensure their hearty spirits.     "As the security barrier for Beijing, all the neighboring provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions are shouldering tough missions in the Olympic security work," he said.     With the games just around the corner, land forces of the People's Liberation Army based in Beijing and three neighboring military area commands would help safeguard the Games, according to Tian Yixiang, an official with the Security Command Center for the Games of the 29th Olympiad.     "We must guarantee Beijing's safety by ensuring the whole country's stability," said Zhou.
