BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has ordered a crackdown on pirated videos of two Chinese New Year blockbusters "Let the Bullets Fly" and "If You Are the One II."The two Chinese movies are both big hits of the New Year movie season. "Let the Bullets Fly" has raked in over 400 million yuan (59.7 million U.S. dollars) in box office since its debut on Dec. 16, while "If You are the One II" has made 200 million yuan within five days since its release.The crackdown was ordered by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications and the General Administration of Press and Publication "in order to protect and boost the development of China's film industry," a statement from the office said Friday.The statement said the crackdown is part of a half-year national campaign against infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR), which is underway.The two departments asked local market watchdogs to enhance market inspections to weed out illegal workshops producing pirated video products.

SANTIAGO, Chile, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met here Wednesday to discuss the development of relations between their two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago.Pinera said that Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with China. NANJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China on Sunday started to extend a memorial wall to engrave more names of those massacred by Japanese aggressors more than 70 years ago in Nanjing.After extension, the "wailing wall", a part of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, will have 10,324 names on it, curator Zhu Chengshan said.The wall was engraved with 3,000 names when it was first built in 1995, and the list was expanded to more than 8,600 names in 2007 when the memorial reopened after a major repair and extension to mark the 70th anniversary of the massacre.The original wall was 43 meters long and 3.5 meters high. The extension will lengthen the wall by 26.5 meters, with 1,655 more names added to it, according to Zhu.Nanjing Massacre happened during World War II after Japanese troops occupied Nanjing, then capital of China, on Dec. 13, 1937. More than 300,000 Chinese were killed in the month-long atrocity.To collect the names of the victims is an important but tough job in the research of the massacre, as it is hard to seek witnesses and related documents decades after the holocaust, said Zhu.

HONG KONG, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang said on Saturday the government will not slack off in its fight against drugs, despite a 20 percent drop in the number of drug abusers aged below 21 in the first half of this year.Speaking at the 2010 Fight Crime Conference, Tsang said both the government and the community attach great importance to drug problems.Although the government's efforts in beating drugs have started to deliver results, it will not slack off and will continue to allocate money to anti-drug programs, he said.Praising law-enforcement officers' professionalism in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong, Tsang said the city's crime rate continued to stay at a low level.According to Chief Secretary Henry Tang, Hong Kong's crime situation for the year's first 10 months remained stable, with overall crime dropping 3.2 percent.
