OCEANSIDE (KGTV) - A big problem the homeless population faces is finding a safe place to bathe, that's why businesses are teaming up to help. Jordan Verdin has spent the last decade working with the homeless population in the North County. As a photographer, he’s always taking pictures and sharing their stories on social media. Part of Verdin’s love of taking pictures of the homeless is allowing them the opportunity of, “being seen and being heard but sometimes they might not want to be seen because of how they look so what we want to do I provide something that will eliminate that barrier”. He tells 10News, “One of the consistent needs shared with me is needing a place to shower”. After hearing that need repeated time and time again, he’s decided to work another project. Verdin mentioned the project to Oceanside business owner Jeanette Linnborn. Linnborn is the owner of coffee shop, Stay Golden. When Verdin brought the idea to Linnborn she jumped on board immediately. She tells 10News, “I was so excited about that I was like okay we can totally do this”. The shower trailer is made up of two sides, each equipped with a bathroom and shower. Verdin tells me 125 people will be able to shower daily. The shower trailer will stand as a liaison to help homeless back on their feet, “something as simple as a shower and a haircut just makes them feel human again” Verdin tells 10News. ODESSA, Texas (KGSTV) - A man with San Diego ties who survived the Texas shooting rampage Saturday is recounting the moment he drove into the crosshairs.Daniel Munoz, 28, moved from San Diego to Texas a year ago to work in the oil industry. He was in his car on the way to meet a friend for a drink, when he yielded to a car coming off an interstate. He immediately saw what appeared to be a rifle barrel in the hands of a driver and the shooter, Seth Ator.Earlier, the shooting spree had started with a routine traffic stop, when Ator suddenly started shooting at officers. During the ensuing chase in the Odessa/Midland area, he shot at other drivers. One of those drivers was Munoz. After he saw the rifle barrel, he told the Associated Press, "This is my street instincts. When a car is approaching you and you see a gun of any type, just get down. Luckily I got down … sure enough, I hear the shots go off. He let off at least three shots on me."Munoz believes one shot hit the engine, another struck the driver's side window, and a third hit a rear window. Some shattered glass punctured his left shoulder, causing him to bleed heavily. As he made the frenzied drive to a hospital, the shooting rampage continued.The gunman would hijack a mail truck, before ramming police vehicles outside a theater, where police would shoot and kill him. In the end, Ator would kill seven and injure 22. As for Munoz, he says he's physically okay but shaken."I'm just trying to turn the corner and I got shot. I'm getting shot at? What's the world coming to? For real? OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Oceanside could be getting a new active sports complex, complete with a man-made wave pool, perfect for surfing competitions, according to Mayor Peter Weiss. The idea is in it's beginning stages, no formal paperwork has been submitted to the city clerk. 10News spoke with her Wednesday and she said the developer, Zephyer Partners, has been talking with council members.Neighbors have already been hearing construction equipment hacking away at the remains of the drive-in that operated before the swap meet took over."When I was driving by and I saw you standing here I thought I need to find out because she probably knows more than I do," Neighbor Liz Lewellen said.She said the neighborhood has been wondering what could happen to the lot. Mayor Weiss told 10News the developer gave him this pitch, "n active sports complex, there would be a BMX track, a climbing wall, things like that, it would also have a hotel and then sports oriented retail." He also described a wave pool that mimics the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch in Fresno. The facility is state-of-the-art and perfect for competitions.The idea sparking interest in the community. Lewellen was shocked and excited when she heard."I love the idea that it's commercial coming in because this area desperately needs more restaurants more things," Lewellen said. One day after a young girl was struck by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium, players are calling on MLB to expand netting at all stadiums. Currently, just five of 30 MLB stadiums have netting that cover sections closer to the dugouts, despite a 2015 safety recommendation to expand netting from dugout to dugout. Currently in the majority of MLB stadiums, the netting provides protection for field-level seats behind home plate, exposing fans who sit behind the dugouts. Although a number of minor league stadiums have upgraded netting, the majority of MLB stadiums have not followed suit. The young girl struck by a foul ball on Wednesday was sitting behind the third base dugout. After Wednesday's incident, some players are left wondering, "What will it take" to expand netting. "I don't care about the damn view of a fan or what,'' Twins second baseman Brian Dozier told reporters after the game. "It's all about safety. I still have a knot in my stomach."MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday that the league would once again discuss expanding netting. "The events at yesterday's game involving a young girl were extremely upsetting for everyone in our game," Manfred told ESPN's Bob Ley. "Over the past few seasons MLB has worked with our clubs to expand the amount of netting in our ballparks.
