BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China Saturday "strongly" urged the United States to respect its core interests and grave concerns, and immediately stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid harms to the Sino-U.S. cooperation.     The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan undermined China's national security as well as the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told Xinhua in an exclusive interview, once again voicing China's "resolute opposition" to the sales.     This was the sixth official announcement made by China over the issue in a week, as spokespersons with the Foreign Ministry and the Defense Ministry had repeatedly denounced the U.S. move.     He said that in response to the U.S. government's recent approval of Raytheon Company and Lockheed Martin Corp. to sell weapons to Taiwan, the Chinese side had made solemn representations with the U.S. side.     The two U.S. Companies' sales plan was part of the arms sales package announced in October 2008 under the Bush Administration, which included weapons and equipments such as Patriot III anti-missile system.     The sales of weapons to Taiwan seriously violated the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, in particular the principles enshrined in the August 17 Communique, said He, adding China's stance on this issue was always "consistent, clear and unswerving."     He said the Taiwan issue was "the most important and sensitive issue at the core of Sino-U.S. relations."     Noting the Sino-U.S. relations had maintained a steady momentum of development since U.S. President Barack Obama took office, He said this progress was hard-earned and should be valued by both countries.     China hoped the United States would work with China to earnestly implement the important consensus on developing bilateral relations reached by leaders of the two countries, strictly abide by the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and principles of the joint statement issued last November, enhance bilateral dialogue, coordination and cooperation in various spheres, so as to push forward the sound and steady development of bilateral ties, said He.

MANILA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, and Philippines Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile pledged to boost cooperation between the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Philippine Senate when they met here Thursday.     Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said China-Philipines ties had witnessed healthy development since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975.     "China and the Philippines share broad common interests," Jia said, highlighting the enhanced mutual political trust, booming economic and trade ties, frequent humanitarian and cultural exchanges and close coordination on international and regional issues. TAICHUNG, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Negotiators of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan ended a new round of talks Tuesday as the two sides agreed to cooperate in farm produce quarantine and cross-Strait employment of fishermen, as well as to deal with different product quality standards.     In an evening banquet held by the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) Tuesday, ARATS president Chen Yunlin expressed his gratitude to the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and to those in Taiwan who had contributed to the ARATS-SEF meeting.     The fruitful meetings between the two organizations were made possible by both sides across the Taiwan Strait, Chen said.     He said the two sides should continue to contribute to the peaceful development of the cross-Strait ties despite all difficulties. "The only way to measure our efforts is whether the agreements really benefit people across the Taiwan Strait."     In the previous three rounds of talks since June 2008, the two sides reached nine agreements concerning transport, trade, tourism, cooperation in finance and fighting crime among other issues.     "We have done many things in the past one and half years that should have been done long before. We will work with our Taiwan counterparts to make sure the agreements are implemented and to close loopholes in them." Chen said.     Chiang Pin-kun said Taiwan and mainland must jointly tackle economic challenges, and the establishment of a cross-Strait economic framework should not be delayed.     He called on both sides to contribute to economic prosperity and development as well as long-term peace and stability.     The agreements reached at previous meetings between SEF and ARATS had brought substantial benefits for the normalization of cross-Strait communication and benefited people on both sides, he said.     However, there was room for improvement and both sides needed to carry out further negotiations, he said.     He called for both sides across the Taiwan Strait to continue efforts to push for the development of systematic talks and promote cross-Strait communication and cooperation.     The ARATS and SEF are expected to discuss future negotiations on the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), although talks on the agreement were not on the agenda of this meeting.     The two sides reached a basic consensus on avoiding double taxation and strengthening taxation cooperation in a preparatory meeting Monday afternoon. BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao recently called for the whole nation to make further advancement in reform of the cadre and personnel system.     Vice President Xi Jinping, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the indications on the issue as well, noting that more achievement should be made in building a scientific cadre's selection and appointment system.     The CPC central committee has approved the outline of deepening the reform of cadre and personnel system (2010-2020) and it has been formally released. The plan put forward the goal and major tasks of the reform in next ten years.     The plan stressed the importance in dealing key issues concerning leadership and cadre cultivation, in making correct standard of cadre appointment and in improving the public credibility of cadre selection.

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ruling parties of China and Japan on Thursday pledged to deepen trust and work together for a stronger strategic relationship of mutual benefit between the two countries.     The pledge came out of a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Ichiro Ozawa in Beijing on Thursday afternoon. Ozawa is leading a delegation of 600-strong members, including 146 DPJ lawmakers from the upper and lower houses of the Japanese Diet, for a four-day visit in Beijing. The program has so far sent about 350 Japanese lawmakers and more than 2,000 representatives from various circles to visit China.
