SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos woman's trip to the San Carlos library turned into nightmare after she was bitten by a dog.A large bruise and two puncture marks remain stamped on Tricia Erler's left thigh."I was in total shock," said Erler.On Tuesday afternoon, she had just finished a mind-and-body class inside the library, grabbed some magazines, and was headed into a lounge area to read."I was behind this woman's chair, and she got up abruptly and swung around in one movement ... she sort of fell into me, and I fell into the books. I felt a stabbing pain in my leg. I thought something had stabbed me from her backpack," said Erler.RELATED: Service dog or pet? You're bleeding and there are teeth marks on your leg," said Erler.Nearby, she saw what bit her: a leashed white dog, possibly an Australian Shepard, with black markings on its head. Next to the dog was the woman who had bumped into her. She was in her 20s or 30s with a stocky build. The woman walked out and never came back."I was upset and shaking. You would think you'd be totally safe in a public library," said Erler.Erler just received her second of four shots for a rabies regimen. Definitely feel dogs should be checked," said Erler.Under federal law, dog owners can be asked if the animal is a service dog, but can't be asked for documentation. A city spokesperson says their policy is to ask every animal that enters a library. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego County woman has filed a lawsuit against a local physician who she says used his own sperm to artificially inseminate her.The discovery occurred decades later after Beverly Willhelm and her husband sought out a fertility specialist in the late 80s.Instead of receiving anonymous sperm, she says the doctor used his own. Willhelm says her son, 23-year-old James Mallus, learned after taking a 23andMe DNA test that his biological dad was the same man that his mother consulted to become pregnant.Willhelm says she's now suing the doctor for fertility fraud in a civil lawsuit.Though Willhelm's attorney said the lawsuit was filed Wednesday, ABC 10News is not naming the doctor because we have not been able to confirm that with the San Diego County Courthouse.According to the lawsuit, the doctor still practices in San Diego County. The lawsuit claims that "the Defendant, without Plaintiff's knowledge or consent, used his own sperm to impregnate her."The suit goes on to say that "based on allegations regarding his mistreatment of numerous patients in 1992-93, Defendant surrendered his California medical license in 1999."The doctor's license was reinstated in 2004. Those allegations are not related to the current lawsuit or other instances of fertility fraud.ABC 10News has reached out to the doctor in the lawsuit, but have not heard back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A political kingmaker is using his fortune to shake up the San Diego race for District Attorney.The first television ads are hitting airwaves now, little more than a month before the election.The element of surprise surrounds the tone of an ad paid for by billionaire George Soros. He’s known for backing progressive candidates and shaking up elections, usually with controversial ads.The ad lays out Geneviéve Jones Wright’s qualifications to be San Diego County’s next District Attorney. It does not attack her opponent Summer Stephan, which is what most politicos expected.Jones Wright told 10News she had not seen the ad.Stephan’s campaign manager said he’s surprised the ad is more of an introduction than an attack. Jason Roe also said there is no doubt in his mind the gloves will come off, based on what he called Soros’ pattern of negative and dishonest ads.Jones Wright filed a complaint with the attorney general claiming Stephan was basically campaigning on the job and using photo ops with law enforcement in her campaign materials.Stephan’s campaign manager called it a distraction. 1128

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A landmark Supreme Court ruling today extended workplace protections for LGBTQ workers nationwide.Years ago, and a few months into a new job in San Diego, Lina Craychee says she came out as transgender and was promptly transferred from a store location to a corporate job."My boss told me I had to. They wouldn't let me present as female in the store level, because it would hurt business," said Craychee.Craychee says she kept silent and accepted the transfer because she needed the job. It's the type of silence she hopes will fade away after an historic Supreme Court ruling. By a 6-3 majority, the court extended 1964 Civil Rights Act protections to LGBTQ employees, who now can't be fired or discriminated against in the workplace because of their sexual orientation.While California protects LGBTQ workers against discrimination, nearly 30 states do not."Huge feeling of relief and victory," said Eddie Reynoso, executive director of the Equality Business Alliance in San Diego.Last fall, Reynoso camped for 72 hours on the Supreme Court steps for the opportunity to witness the arguments."In terms of impact, this will be bigger than the marriage equality ruling," said Reynoso.Reynoso says the ruling sends a powerful message across the country."Ultimately it means the workplace is going to be a safer place. LGBT workers will have an affirming work environment," said Reynoso.While this ruling is directed at the workplace, experts say this could open to door for other challenges involving LGBTQ discrimination. Meanwhile,advocates say more job security will mean more access to tings like health care."It means trans people like myself can have peaceful workplace," said Craychee. 1719

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A non-profit in Logan Heights is asking for the neighborhood's help clean up a community space used by families and children. The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation owns the Gilliam Family Community Space. In March, they were forced to shut it down indefinitely because vandals were using the space overnight.  The area is covered in graffiti and littered with trash. The vandals were using the tree house overnight and damaging the fruits and vegetables in the community garden.  Now, the non-profit wants volunteers to help revamp the area. They plan on knocking the tree house down and eliminating the garden to deter the people coming in overnight. A large community cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at 2835 Imperial Avenue at 9 a.m. The non-profit relies solely on donations.
