(KGTV) - All evacuations and road closures have been lifted after a fire in Otay Mesa scorched hundreds of acres and tore through a pallet yard Thursday. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said in a tweet Thursday evening that crews would mop up the burn area overnight while checking for hot spots. No structures were lost in the blaze and no one injured. The fire, named the Caliente Fire, broke out about noon at Otay Mesa Road and Caliente Avenue. The San Diego Fire Department initially reported that crews stopped forward progress of the fire at around 3 p.m., but the blaze reignited moments later, eventually spreading to a pallet yard. According to fire crews, the pallet yard housed 80,000 pallets. Thick, black smoke could be seen flooding into the air from Moreno Pallets in Otay Mesa. Four helicopters, two fixed-wing aircraft, four strike teams and the original San Diego Fire first alarm team battled the blaze, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa was also evacuated due to the blaze. According to a spokesperson with the college, San Diego Police entered the college and told everyone to evacuate immediately. All night classes at Southwestern were canceled. San Ysidro High School was designated as the evacuation center while the American Red Cross provided supplies. So to be able to look out of the window and see this, it's just an everyday reminder that we're not untouchable," said Marnicca Gomez, who lives at a nearby complex. The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District said Thursday that smoke from the fire will have local impact through Friday. Read the full forecast below: Due to the fire burning in Otay Mesa in San Diego County, localized areas of smoke have occurred in areas of San Diego County. As a result fine particulates, or PM2.5 concentrations, may reach unhealthful levels in some smoke impacted areas. In areas of heavy smoke, assume that air quality levels are unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals. In areas with minor smoke impacts, assume that air quality levels range from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. In areas where you smell smoke it is advised that you limit physical activity. If possible, stay indoors to limit your exposure to fine particulate matter. The air quality forecast for Friday, August 2, is for little change in conditions. Air quality levels will be GOOD to UNHEALTHY for SENSITIVE GROUPS throughout the day.A GoFundMe was started Thursday to help the owner of Moreno Pallets, the pallet yard destroyed in the blaze. (KGTV) -- Gov. Gavin Newsom Monday announced California's plan for how COVID-19 vaccines will be distributed once they receive emergency Food and Drug Administration approval. The state is waiting on three companies that say their trials have shown promising results: Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca. On Monday, Newsom explained that health care workers will be the first in line to get vaccinated, along with people in nursing or assisted living facilities and first responders. The governor said there are three separate committees currently looking at the data presented by the drugmakers, confirming that the vaccines are safe, saying so far they have not had any issues. During Monday's press conference, Newsom said that the state is not handling distribution, instead the drugmaker will distribute directly to the medical facilities or use an independent distributor to transport the vaccines. AstraZeneca reported Monday that its vaccine is up to 90% effective. Last week, Moderna and Pfiszer both applied for emergency FDA authorization after reporting that their trials showed their vaccines to be 95% and 90% effective, respectively. Newsom also discussed how the vaccines will be transported. Pfizer's vaccine requires being stored in extremely freezing temperatures, likely requiring things like dry ice. Moderna's must also be frozen, but can be done in a traditional freezer. The distribution will happen in phases, and Newsom said further phases of distribution will still take time, with mass distribution still months away. 1547

(CNN) -- The US believes late al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's son Hamza bin Laden is dead, a US official told CNN on Wednesday. The official said the US had a role in his death but did not provide details. The official added that the US government recently received evidence that it believes corroborates his death. The New York Times reported that Hamza bin Laden had been killed in an operation within the last two years.Earlier this year the US State Department called bin Laden, who is believed to be in his early 30s, an "emerging" leader in the terror group al Qaeda, offering a million-dollar reward for information leading to his capture. The New York Times, citing two US officials, said "the United States government had a role in the operation that killed the younger Mr. bin Laden, but it was not clear precisely what that role was."CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said one thing is puzzling researchers who are closely tracking al Qaeda: "If Hamza bin Laden has indeed been dead for months, you would expect al Qaeda to have released some form of eulogy before today. The fact they haven't is highly unusual, given his status in the group."When the US government offered the reward it accused the Saudi Arabia-born Hamza bin Laden of seeking to encourage attacks against the US.While The New York Times said the operation that killed him took place prior to the State Department's reward offer, his death had yet to be confirmed by the US government.Hamza bin Laden "has released audio and video messages on the Internet, calling on his followers to launch attacks against the United States and its Western allies, and he has threatened attacks against the United States in revenge for the May 2011 killing of his father by US military forces," the State Department said in its announcement offering the reward.NBC News was first to report that the US government had assessed Hamza bin Laden to be dead.President Donald Trump declined to comment Wednesday when asked about the reports. The Department of Defense also declined to comment. The State Department said items seized from the elder bin Laden's hiding place in Pakistan during the Navy SEAL raid that resulted in his death indicated he was grooming Hamza bin Laden to replace him as al Qaeda's leader. He married the daughter of a senior al Qaeda leader who was charged by a federal grand jury for his role in the August 7, 1998, bombings of the US embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.Saudi Arabia revoked Hamza bin Laden's citizenship, official newspaper Um al-Qura reported earlier this year, citing a royal order issued to the Interior Ministry. 2653
