There's a new way to do contact tracing in the works and it could make a difference for health care providers during flu season.Vibrent Health just got a contract with major health institutions to develop the platform.Part of the idea is for users to enter their symptoms and find out if they're more likely to have the flu or COVID-19.“Health care facilities do get bombarded with perhaps people thinking that they have COVID when they just had flu, so the idea is how do you help the health care organizations to reduce some of the burden,” said Praduman Jain, founder and CEO of Vibrent Health. The technology is designed to be embedded in other apps that organizations and intuitions already use, like a university application for students.“So, make it easy for people and don't try to change their behavior,” said Jain. “They are already using certain applications that this can become a part of.”The app uses Wi-Fi networks to find out if you may have been close to someone with the virus. It could help cut some contact tracing work for public health departments. Instead of calling everyone that may have come in contact with the virus, the app can report that information.“There are only so many people, so many human beings, so many people that public health departments can hire to do that contact tracing, so technology becomes really important,” said Jain.Development is still in its early stages. Right now, the focus is on fine-tuning the algorithms to evolve along with changing data on the coronavirus.Broader testing is expected in the first few months of 2021. 1585

Three men have been banned from Yellowstone National Park after a park ranger caught them cooking chickens in a hot spring.Back on Friday, Aug. 7, a park ranger was alerted that a group of men with cooking pots were hiking toward's the park's Shoshone Geyser Basin, the East Idaho News reported. Shortly after that, the ranger found two whole chickens in a burlap sack in a hot spring and a cooking pot nearby.According to the Associated Press, when defendant Eric Roberts, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was asked about what the group was up to, he said they were making dinner.Of West Valley City, Utah, Dallas Roberts and Roberts were ordered to serve two days in jail and pay 0 in fines and fees, and Eric Romriell, of Idaho Falls, paid ,250 in fines and fees, the AP reported.According to the AP, the men are banned from Yellowstone while serving two years of unsupervised probation. As for whose idea it was, Eric Roberts said it was a "joint thing," the AP reported.According to the park's website, the hot springs have "injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature." The park urges guests near thermal areas to stay on boardwalks and trails and if you have children, you're advised to keep them close and not let them run. 1265

This holiday season, you may be stocking up on canned drinks for parties and guests. Well, you'll want to clean off those cans before handing them out!Investigator reporter Jace Larson tested soda cans for bacteria, and what he found was pretty gross. The cans tested came from a variety of places, including grocery stores, convenience stores, vending machines and cans stored in a home. All but one of the cans tested had mold on it.The highest mold count was 600 colonies of mold. That can came from a grocery store. This type of exposure could make people with compromised immune systems or lung disease sick.To put that number of colonies into perspective-- a flooded home could have 2,000-plus colonies of mold, while a condemned home could have roughly levels around 36,000.However, microbiologist Helene Ver Eecke, with the Metropolitan State University of Denver, says the 600 colonies of mold isn’t really a cause for concern.“Regular microbial load that we are constantly dosing ourselves with everything that we touch with everything we breathe,” Ver Eecke says. “It's just part of being human.”One soda can did test for bacteria levels that would be slightly concerning. The can—purchased from a convenience store--had the highest levels, with 3,700 bacteria colonies on it.But compared to dry cereal mixes, which can have up to 100,000 bacteria colonies and deemed safe to consume by FDA standards, the colonies found on that can were significantly less."There was one sample that came from a convenience store that had a higher bacterial count than samples, which makes sense because they were probably stocked probably appropriate for people to wear gloves when stocking," explains Ver Eecke. If you’re worried about the amount of bacteria, Ver Eecke recommends seeking other options."There may be other options for you a bottle or other things to try to help keep you safe." 1901

There is a 220 acre vegetation fire in the X-Ray Impact Area of base. Forward rate of spread has stopped, and CPFD is on scene working containment efforts.
