NGARI/CHENGDU, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, known as the "Roof of the World", on Thursday opened its fourth civil airport in farwest Ngari area, shortening a trip to the regional capital Lhasa to one and half hours from three or four days by car.An Airbus 319 landed at Gunsa Airport in Ngari Prefecture at 10:20 a.m., marking the airport's official opening.The passenger flight from Chengdu, capital of the neighboring Sichuan Province, was operated by Air China's southwestern branch.An Air China flight would fly from Chengdu to Lhasa and on to Ngari every Tuesday and Friday, said Bao Lida, a spokesman with the company's southwestern branch based in Chengdu."The flight leaves Chengdu at 5:50 a.m. and arrives in Lhasa two hours later," said Bao. "It leaves Lhasa at 8:40 a.m. and arrives Ngari at 10:20 a.m."At an altitude of 4,274 meters with a 4,500-meter runway, Gunsa Airport is now the third highest airport in the world. BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a rainstorm alert Wednesday as heavy rains were expected to pound the flood-affected southern provinces.Most regions in south China, including provinces of Guizhou, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and the flood-hit Fujian, Hunan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, would experience heavy rain or rainstorms between 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday (Beijing time), the NMC said.Rainstorms were forecast for south China also during the next three days, while regions in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north, and northeastern China would also experience rainfalls, it said.The observatory warned local authorities in south China, especially in the flood-battered regions, to get prepared for possible floods and geological disasters.In Fujian, heavy rains have triggered landslides and flash floods, which engulfed two vehicles in Nanping City and left at least six people dead as of Tuesday.China's Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has dispatched work teams to the southern provinces of Hunan, Fujian and Guangxi and to Xinjiang after heavy rains hit the regions.

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhuanet) --Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co is expected to complete it takeover of Swedish luxury car brand Volvo from US automaker Ford Motor Co on Monday after getting government approval for the deal.Ministry of Commerce officials told China Daily on Thursday that the government cleared the Volvo deal on Monday 26, after the National Development and Reform Commission cleared the proposal last week.Geely has also got the necessary anti-trust approvals from the European Union and the US government for the deal.Li Shufu (center), chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Co, arrives for a news conference in Beijing earlier this year.
