SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are resuming their search Thursday morning for actress Naya Rivera who disappeared while boating on Lake Piru with her young son.The Ventura County Sheriff's Department tweeted that Rivera may have drowned. Later Thursday, authorities began a recovery effort, saying they believed Rivera had drowned.The 33-year-old actress rented a boat at the lake with her 4-year-old son Wednesday afternoon, authorities told media. Staff at the lake found the overdue rental with her child on board but could not find Rivera.Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Eric Buschow told the Los Angeles Times that the boy and Rivera got out of the boat for a swim but she did not follow him back onto the boat. The boy was found sleeping on the boat alone by other boaters in the lake, Buschow said.Buschow said Rivera's son is safe with family members.Rivera, from Santa Clarita, earned stardom after her breakthrough role as cheerleader Santana Lopez on the television musical "Glee." According to her biography, Rivera appeared in commercials for retailer Kmart as a baby then broke into acting at the age of four when she starred as Hillary Winston in the television sitcom "The Royal Family."Rivera recently appeared on YouTube Premium’s “Step Up” series.Tragedy struck the former cast of the hit television show twice over the last decade. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say they are taking aggressive measures to contain a flu outbreak at San Diego's migrant shelter. At least 16 migrants have shown flu-like symptoms; all were recently flown to San Diego from Texas by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Three migrants tested positive with a rapid influenza test."In order to take steps to prevent the spread of the disease we've become more aggressive in treating everyone with symptoms, regardless of when those symptoms started," said Dr. Dean Sidelinger, Deputy Public Health Officer for the County.RELATED: Flu outbreak sickens over 30 migrants at border centerBefore being admitted to the shelter, migrants undergo medical screenings.Migrants with flu-like symptoms are being isolated off-site in hotel rooms, along with their family members who are receiving preventative medicine.On Thursday, County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Nathan Fletcher expressed their continued frustration with the federal government's handling of the migrant crisis. "Had we not taken these steps these migrant families would have been released by ICE at bus stops or transit centers without the medical screenings, without the treatment, without the attention, and without the help and support that we have provided. This could have proved disastrous for our region," said Fletcher. Fletcher says while they don't know how many people may develop flu-like symptoms in the days and weeks ahead, they are actively monitoring the population. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- At least one person died in a Bay Park crash as rain soaked the roads in San Diego County Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. Sunday on northbound Interstate 5 just before Clairemont Drive. CHP reports that the vehicle was traveling at high speeds just before the crash. At least three vehicles were involved in the crash. According to CHP, the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the center divide before being struck by two other vehicles. The driver of the truck was standing outside his vehicle when he was hit and killed by one of the vehicles. The driver was 48-year-old Joseph Vito Berardino, according to the medical examiner. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Crews are clearing out a large homeless encampment hidden out of sight. It’s so big, it’s taking crews three days to clear the area in Webster. Trash, soiled clothes and old food containers is only a small list of what the eight man crew had to clean up. Stephen Driver, with the Alpha Project Abatement team says the area is, “really filthy. There’s urine bottles all over the place, buckets with human feces, dead animals. You name it.”The Alpha Project Abatement team cleared a stretch of Federal Boulevard. The homeless camp was tucked away near a flood channel. Driver says most of these camps are not easily seen. The Alpha Project crew is contracted with the City of San Diego. They work with the city’s Environmental Services Department to clear the mess. “Sometimes the people are here but usually they’re packing up and leaving once we get here,” says Driver. Police were on hand to make sure crews were safe. The city gave the people living there about a week’s notice about the cleanup.The Alpha Project offers a number of resources for the homeless, including a bridge shelter in downtown. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Customs and Border Protection officers say more than 300 pounds of drugs were seized from a truck at the Otay Mesa cargo port of entry this week.CBP officers say a tractor-trailer truck was stopped on Thursday at about 7 a.m. The driver was carrying a shipment of recycled cardboard, CBP said.The truck was referred to an imaging scan and exam, where an anomaly was detected in the truck's cab.CBP says officers removed 64 packages from two duffel bags hidden inside a sleeper compartment: 59 containing 286 pounds of methamphetamine and five bags containing 26 pounds of fentanyl.The narcotics, and tractor-trailer were seized and the driver, a 36-year-old Mexican citizen with a valid B1/B2 border-crossing card, was turned over to ICE and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center to face federal charges."Even in the midst of a global pandemic, we continue to see attempts to move hard narcotics across the border and into U.S. communities," said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego.
