SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A homeowner in Clairemont hopes surveillance video is the key to tracking down the intruder who climbed straight through his window, before making off with some family heirlooms.Just off Balboa Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Monday, a man is seen ringing the doorbell at the home of Jeff Howell. After minutes of ringing and knocking, the man is recorded heading for the backyard, where he peers into the patio door and grabs a chair. He then pries open a locked window, steps onto the chair and into the home.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"Just a sense of violation," said Howell.The man is then seen on the phone, possibly with a lookout."You can hear him discussing 'it's safe now' or 'somebody just went by,'" said Howell.Moments later, the man heads straight for the bedroom closet, dragging out a small safe, before carrying it out the front door.By the time Howell saw his text alert, the intruder was gone. The man was in the home for about 15 minutes. Inside the safe: authentication documents for artwork and family heirlooms belonging to his 11-year-old son, including a silver spoon given to him at birth and something from his rodeo-competing great-grandfather, who has passed."He had a prize-winning, silver belt buckle. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man has made it his mission to lift up young people through sports. Gordon Brown is our LEAD San Diego Leadership Award winner for December. He’s a mentor for inner-city golfers, a sport often seen as a past-time for the 1 percent. “I played golf across the street from my house from where we lived, on the school ground. It was five of, three of us, that used one golf club,” said Brown. From those humble beginnings in South Carolina, Brown forged a career in professional golf that eventually led him to San Diego. In 1973, he started helping disadvantaged kids learn the game. "What golf teaches to the kids that we've raised through the San Diego inner City Junior Golf Foundation is honor, dignity respect, etiquette, and truly wanting to do something better with their lives.” Brown estimates he has worked with thousands of kids over the years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new investigation by CNN reveals at least 103 incidents of Uber drivers being accused of sexually assaulting or abusing passengers in the last four years. One of those drivers was John David Sanchez, a San Diego area man who was arrested, convicted and sentenced to 80 years in prison. Investigators say he drugged and assaulted multiple victims. Uber issued the following statement that reads in part: 462

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pet parrot gave its owner quite the scare after flying up into a tall tree in La Jolla.The owner, Katie Anthony, said she camped under the tree all night worried about her African Grey parrot named "Sidekick." Anthony said the bird is domesticated and not used to being in the wild.Anthony called the San Diego Fire Department and crews came out to investigate. SDFD Capt. Margot Johnson - who was retiring Wednesday - climbed up to retrieve the bird, but it took a couple tries to get it down. At one point, another firefighter fought off a falcon in the process."We really appreciate it and very very thankful because we didn't think we were ever going to see him again," Anthony said.Sidekick is now safe and sound. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was arrested after the mother of a three-year-old girl called the San Diego Police and said her daughter was kidnapped and inappropriately touched by her neighbor.Police say the ordeal happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday, on Maple Street near Oak Park Elementary School.Two uncles spoke with 10News off camera, saying they heard their cousin "making a fuss" about her window being broken into, the same bedroom where their niece was taking a nap."He snatched her from the window... Three minutes to ten minutes that she was in there," one uncle said.When the girl was back home, the uncles said she seemed upset and reserved. Once she started talking, and the family had an idea of what may have happened, emotions boiled over."My cousin just went in for the shine like the first shot he made him bleed like I think he cracked his nose," he said his sister pulled them apart, and the man ran off.Blood stains were visible on the concrete outside. "Something had to be wrong with him, for him to balls up and come through a window with like ten people in the house," he said. The family knew the neighbor was mentally ill but did not think to this extent.The toddler and her parents then went to the hospital to get "a rape kit, just make sure everything’s fine, and we don’t exactly know what happened to her she saying that she was touched."The incident happened right across the street from Oak Park Elementary School, where students will come back to class August 28th. The San Diego Police Sex Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. 1635
