SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Scooter riders near the beach are checking their rides a little closer following reports of a group of vandals cutting the brake lines on Byrd scooters in Pacific Beach. "That actually happened to me once in Key West. I had rented scooters and somebody had cut the gas line and we had to walk several miles,” said Jamie Gustine. It was a gas line then, but Jamie says now she’s forced to worry about cut brake lines when she rides. "My kids have ridden them, I have an 8 year old and a 12 year old who was riding the scooter as well, so that's where it scares me the most," she continued. Several people took to social media after the holiday weekend reporting a group of people cutting brake lines on Byrd scooters in Pacific Beach. "It's always something you're thinking about as a parent,” said Michael Cole. Michael Cole, thinking about it as he teaches his 7-year-old daughter to ride. "Somebody is eventually going to get hurt when you're doing something like that, especially down here by the beach, you grab a scooter, you're not thinking that someone cut the break lines."San Diego Police say you should contact the scooter company directly so they can remove the damaged scooters from the streets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sea World employees went on a rescue mission Saturday to free a Sea lion pup from a plastic ribbon wrapped around his neck on Boomer's Beach.The timing is poetic, on World Oceans Day. A day that "provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean," according to WorldOceansDay.org.Sea World Animal Care Specialist Brooke Hubbard said they had been monitoring the pup and received another call Saturday. This time it sounded like the 2-3-year-old sea lion was in an area where they could safely remove the ribbon.A rescue that saved the mammal's life, "when there is lining around it's neck it can constrict it's airways and it's esophagus making it so they can't breathe or eat over time," Hubbard said.Video from her supervisor's perspective shows what it was like when the team snuck up on the sea lion, threw their net and cut the ribbon off with a pair of ordinary scissors.When they released the Sea lion, he scooted back to the ocean, "that's the best feeling in the world, especially since we didn't have to bring it back here and rehabilitate it," she said.Hubbard said this is is completely preventable, "please don't litter at the beach. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released video Thursday of a random assault outside a North Park 7-Eleven.The assault happened February 15 about 9 p.m. at the store on 3019 Meade Ave., at 30th St., police said.The woman was standing outside the store in front of the Redbox video rental machine when the man walked up behind her.Surveillance video shows the man push the woman. She fell to the ground and was injured. There's no word on her condition.The attack appears to be random.Anyone with information about the man is asked to call San Diego Police. 567
