SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man who provided alcohol to an underage drinker who subsequently caused a crash that killed her passenger was sentenced to 240 days in custody, the City Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. Fraidoon Ahmad gave alcohol to Yolanda Lozano and Mabel Bahena, both 19, on Feb. 17, 2017. Lozano later drove while drunk and collided with a truck on Interstate 15, killing Bahena. Lozano pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was sentenced to one year in custody, with Bahena's family asking a judge for leniency as the two women had been best friends since grade school. Ahmad pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and furnishing alcohol to a minor causing great bodily injury and death. According to the City Attorney's Office, Lozano and Bahena met up with Ahmad at the Myst Hookah Lounge in the Gaslamp Quarter. Lozano was responding to an ad that Ahmad posted online, seeking prospective employees for a job at a marijuana dispensary. Ahmad gave each woman two glasses of wine and a shot of tequila at the lounge, then met up with him at his East Village apartment, where he served them more alcohol, according to the City Attorney's Office. 1804

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Attempted murder, kidnapping, child abuse, child abduction, criminal threats and burglary charges have been filed against a man accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck off Sunset Cliffs and into the ocean with his twin toddler daughters inside, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.Robert Brians is being held without bail on suspicion of driving into the water last Saturday morning with his 2-year-old daughters inside the truck. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A parolee accused of sexually assaulting an 88-year- old woman at a Hillcrest nursing home just days after being released from jail for an unrelated drug offense was charged Wednesday with rape, elder abuse and other felonies.Lusean Arline, 48, was arrested Monday in connection with the alleged Oct. 27 sex assault at the Balboa Nursing & Rehab Center. Deputy District Attorney Scott Pirrello alleged that Arline entered the nursing home around 3 a.m. and was found completely nude on top of the victim in her bed. How Arline allegedly entered the facility remains under investigation, but Pirrello said it's believed he got in through an unlocked door.RELATED: 88-year-old woman sexually assaulted at Hillcrest nursing homeStaff heard the victim and her roommates screaming and entered the room, prompting Arline to flee the scene, the prosecutor said. Police then tracked down Arline with help from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, SDPD Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was stabbed in the hands and pistol whipped in North Park Saturday after refusing to carry drugs from Mexico into the United States, police said.The victim, 49, was pressured by six friends earlier in the day to transport drugs from Mexico across the border, but he refused, said Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department.They saw him later at 3 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of 30th Street, Martinez said."They got into a confrontation with him, and during the confrontation the victim was stabbed in both hands and pistol whipped," the officer said.The victim received a laceration to both hands and a laceration to the top of the head from being pistol whipped, Martinez said.The main suspect was a man known to the victim, he said. The other suspects were three men and two women. They all fled in a white Kia SUV with Mexico plates.Mid City Division detectives will be handling the investigation. 950

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego businesswoman pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy, securities fraud and obstruction of justice charges for taking hundreds of millions of dollars in investor funds intended as loans for liquor licenses and funneling the money into her companies and for personal purchases.Gina Champion-Cain, founder and former CEO of American National Investments, was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission last summer with taking millions from investors and telling them the money would be used to support loans for people seeking California liquor licenses.
