BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A large area of Boulder County, including the towns of Jamestown and Ward, are under a mandatory evacuation order after two new wildfires sparked over the weekend.The 8,788-acre Calwood Fire started Saturday and is burning near the Cal-Wood Education Center in the Jamestown area. Officials Sunday night confirmed that 26 homes were lost to the fire, so far, mostly on the eastern side of the fire along Mountain Ridge Drive and Foothills Ranch Drive. No injuries were reported.The Calwood Fire was about 15% contained as of Sunday night. The most concerning area of the fire was the northern ridge of the fire area, due to the steep, rocky terrain and dry fuels, officials said.On Sunday, a new wildfire, dubbed the Lefthand Canyon Fire, started in the 14000 block of Lefthand Canyon Drive near the town of Ward. It has charred 312 acres as of Sunday night. Crews were still battling the fire Sunday but had contained the blaze north of Lefthand Canyon Drive.Smoke from both fires can be seen throughout most of Boulder and the surrounding area.The Boulder County fires prompted authorities to send out pre-evacuation notices to thousands of residents nearby, including people in the town of Lyons. In the Calwood Fire, there are 1,600 homes and 2,600 structures total in the evacuation area, and around 3,000 people impacted.Several roads are closed, including County Road 87, and officials evacuated Hall Ranch and Heil Valley trails.The map below shows the areas under an evacuation or pre-evacuation order:There is an evacuation check-in point for the Calwood Fire set up at 3460 N. BETHEL, Ohio — Love is in the air at a small local farm that focuses on selling quail eggs and other tasty farm creations like their bourbon-based caramel.Woodbottom Quail Farms even has a saying: "Loving the Farm and Farming the Love.""Maybe be able to give someone something they might not have been able to have as nice otherwise," said farm co-owner Tom Segrist.Segrist is an Army veteran, having served as a Scout from 1986 to 1990.He and his wife, who goes by "M," both decided early in 2020 to offer up something special."I posted on Facebook, and then it was just announced that we're doing the weddings, you know, it's all-inclusive, everything's free," M Segrist said.She said the response was incredible, with well over 100 couples writing their love story and submitting their application. The main qualifying point to receive the free, all-inclusive wedding inside their quaint farm barn: one person in the couple must be a military veteran."We collected new and gently used wedding dresses," M Segrist said. "There's a consignment shop offering bridesmaids dresses. There's full salon, mani-pedi, facials, seamstress, floral photography for engagement and the ceremony. There's tons of gifts."Those gifts have come from veteran-based businesses across the United States who wanted to make the six couples' big days even more special. Some wedding gifts came from as far away as Alaska and Hawaii.M Segrist said it was a challenge to whittle the stack of applicants down, but they chose each of the couples for specific reasons. BOCA RATON, Fla. — New developments in the investigation into a Boca Raton pet store where authorities say a dead puppy and several sick puppies were found late last year.The owner of Poochie Couture was arrested on Tuesday and is facing multiple animal cruelty charges.Marc Rosenbluth, 37, has since bonded out of jail.Last November, dozens of puppies were removed from Poochie Couture by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, and the pet store was shut down.Rosenbluth surrendered some of the dogs after Boca Raton Police and Animal Care and Control said they found a dead 3-month-old puppy, along with several other sick animals."Had we not gotten there with Boca P.D., most likely the death toll would have much higher," said Dianne Sauve, the director of Palm Beach County Animal Care and ControlSauve said closing the pet store is a victory.Records show that of the 58 dogs inside the shop, investigators found the dead puppy and six french bulldogs that were sick with multiple problems. Two of them needed intensive care.Rosenbluth's arrest report said Poochie Couture lacked prevention of injury and did not assist with ongoing veterinary care."It is a shame some animals had to die in a result of this," said Kelly Evans, who called police in November, claiming Rosenbluth and his wife were not taking care of their puppies. "I am glad he is arrested now and there is some justice for the animals."Sauve said ACC likes to tell people to always adopt and don't shop. BRANSON, Mo. — Branson, Missouri is a tourist destination for tens of thousands of families every summer. The winter months bring colder temperatures and empty amusement parks, meaning high unemployment across the community. This year, COVID-19 has made the widespread seasonal poverty even worse.Kevin Huddleston runs the Christian Action Ministries Food Bank in Branson and helps feed thousands of families per year. He said this year, they've handed out twice the amount of food as they did last year because so many families have been financially struggling through the pandemic.Huddleston said the need for services has fluctuated throughout the year, skyrocketing at times and leveling out when the stimulus checks and expanded unemployment benefits kicked in. With winter on the horizon, he is worried for what is to come."I really am concerned that we are entering our season of highest demand, and typically, normally people enter this period of time with some stored back, they have some money set aside, some food set aside, to get them through the dark days of winter when our tourism season is dormant here. We don’t have that fallback this year, people are not prepared," said Huddleston.He is also worried that the community, without a homeless shelter or affordable housing units, will see more community members on the streets than ever before."I think we’re likely going to see a housing problem this winter, seeing more people being homeless situationally, so we as a community are scrambling trying to do something."The city is opening up a warming center for people to have somewhere to go to escape the frigid temperatures, but it is not an overnight place yet. Huddleston is hoping a homeless shelter will be able to open up soon.Despite the adversity families are facing across this tourist town, Huddleston said he does have hope."Our financial contributions have been very good this year, much better than we’ve expected in this kind of economic situation," he said, adding that their shelves are often overstocked. Thankfully, food supply has not been an issue. The food bank has been able to help thousands without ever running out.Still, he says handing out food does not fix the problem. He and other community leaders said poverty in Branson needs to be addressed at the root. He is part of a group helping to build resources in the community so families can work themselves out of a constant situation of struggle. However, he is worried these solutions will not come quick enough."We are planning for a very dire situation this winter," he said.
