With the Food and Drug Administration expected to approve COVID-19 vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna in the coming days, it's possible that many Americans will begin to receive vaccinations within weeks. However, both the vaccines require two shots that need to be taken several weeks apart — and officials worry that some Americans may forget to get their second shot. That's why officials said Wednesday that they are including reminder cards in each ancillary COVID-19 vaccination kit.According to the Department of Defense, the person administering vaccines will hand out a paper card after injecting the first dose of the vaccine. The cards will include the day that the first dose had been administered and the day that the patient will need to return to receive their second dose.Operation Warp Speed officials also say vaccine administers will also encourage patients to take a photo of the card with their cell phone or set up a reminder alert so they can remember the date of their next appointment even if they lose the card.On Wednesday, Gen. Gus Perna — the chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed — said that pharmacy chains like CVS and Walgreens might be able to set up notifications and appointments for a second shot for those who receive the vaccine.CNN also reports that some vaccination clinics may ask patients to provide a cell phone number to help remind them about the second shot. All clinics will need to report each vaccination to a state registry in order to track instances where a person receives a shot from two different clinics.Johnson & Johnson is in the process of developing a single-shot COVID-19 vaccine. While officials on Wednesday said the vaccine is on track to reach efficacy thresholds by the end of the month, it likely won't be available until later in 2021. 1825

Women have been hit harder by job loss during the pandemic, according to an analysis by the Institute for Women's Policy Research. It found in April that the unemployment rate for women increased almost three percentage points above the rate for men. It's a direct contrast to the 2008 recession, which left more men out of work. The institute says this time is different because women dominate the fields that have had the most coronavirus-related layoffs, like hospitality and education.Women of color are even more heavily impacted, with the unemployment rate highest amongst Hispanic women. The institute's president and CEO, C. Nicole Mason, says many of those were low wage jobs.“Many of these women, both black and Latina women, women of color were economically vulnerable before the start of the pandemic,” said Mason. “And the pandemic has only worsened those circumstances and their vulnerability. It's disheartening after a strong start to the year, when the institute celebrated women making up 50% of the workforce. They tell us women will face more challenges getting back to work compared to men.“If it feels hard, it's because it is,” said Mason. “Communities, businesses, as well as policy makers need to step up to make sure that women who are unemployed have the opportunity to reenter the workforce and those who can't have the necessary social supports they need to be able to take care of their families.”The institute says the biggest barrier is a lack of childcare support. They're also pushing for paid sick leave and higher wages. 1559

You might be driving less during the coronavirus pandemic. If so, a different type of insurance could save you money.Pay per mile auto insurance is for those who drive less than 12,000 miles per year.“They are seeing in the news that people are giving rebates, so it’s at the top of their mind, where maybe they didn't think of that before and now they are thinking, ‘oh yeah, that’s right, I am driving less, I should be paying less,” said Michelle Megna with CarInsurance.com.One company claims it can save you about 0 a year. You pay a flat rate, then 6 cents a mile. There's a cap on the number of miles you can be charged for.Ford recently partnered with Metromile to offer the insurance in its new connected cars.Other companies like Nationwide, Allstate and a new company called Mile Auto also have similar plans.“Typically, there are few complaints about pay per mile, because its relatively straightforward and its very simple and obviously consumers like that,” said Megna.Pay per mile is different than usage-based insurance. That also takes into account when you drive, hard braking and acceleration.Pay per mile is strictly miles and is typically tracked through an app or device.Even if you're driving over 10,000 miles per year, it could still pay to shop around. 1288

at Detroit Metropolitan Airport's McNamara Terminal Friday morning.According to an airport spokesperson, the incident happened at 6:30 a.m. local time. The man walked up to a checkpoint at the McNamara Terminal and removed his clothing. He then disconnected a stanchion at the checkpoint and approached a metal detector. The TSA officers didn't allow the man through the detector.Shameka Scott was traveling to Atlanta when she heard commotion and turned to see the naked man running past security.Scott says the man veered around the detector and made it to where TSA agents screen the bags after people walk through the detectors."I’m just shocked he got that far through TSA," she said. "I’m just grateful he did ‘t have a bomb or anything like that. I could have been seriously hurt."The Wayne County Airport Authority's police and fire departments responded to the scene and determined that the man did not pose a threat.Scott said TSA agents attempted to cover him with garbage bags and the man was very nonchalant and compliant. The man was then transported to a local hospital. This story was originally published by 1123
