SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Navy veteran Erick Dorsey is the proud new owner of a 2015 Toyota Tacoma, a vehicle once totaled and headed for the salvage yard.The donation is part of the National Auto Body Council's Recycled Rides program - insurers, collision repairers, paint suppliers, parts vendors, and others collaborate to repair and donate vehicles to deserving individuals throughout the country.After leaving the service in 2010, transitioning and finding employment as a civilian was challenging for Dorsey. He relied on his previous skill-set as a welder to make ends meet, a career that nearly cost him his eyesight from being in the trade for over 20 years.Dorsey's currently a full-time student at Cuyamaca College, pursuing environmental science. He's also working as a Veteran Resource Center representative through the VA Work Study program. While he transitions to a new career with limited income, Dorsey relies on public transportation and friends to juggle work and school schedules. Allstate Insurance donated the car and technicians at Caliber Collision in Vista made it like new, volunteering personal time to restore the vehicle.Dorsey was nominated by Support the Enlisted Project (STEP), a San Diego-based nonprofit that supports military service members and their families.STEP's mission is to build financial self-sufficiency among junior active duty enlisted service members and recently discharged enlisted Veterans and their families.Over 1,000 vehicles have been donated through the Recycled Rides program since its inception in 2007. 1565

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One man is behind bars Saturday after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through North San Diego County, ending at a Riverside County casino.Augustine Robinson was arrested inside Pechanga Casino, after leading deputies on a pursuit that began in San Marcos, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.Deputies said Robinson stopped at a Shell gas station at 400 Sycamore Ave. in Vista at about 5:30 a.m. and told the clerk to put an undisclosed amount of money on a pump. The clerk reportedly told Robinson he had to pay for the fuel but Robinson gestured toward his pocket and said, "You should put it on the pump."MAP: Track crime in your neighborhoodThe clerk, thinking Robinson had a weapon, did as he demanded. Robinson also grabbed a drink from a refrigerator before filling his car and leaving, deputies added.Deputies came across Robinson's suspected vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. A pursuit began and lasted for about 50 minutes, taking deputies through San Marcos, Vista, Escondido, and into Riverside County.The chase ended at Pechanga, where deputies said Robinson fled and was stopped just inside the casino entrance. No injuries were reported.Deputies have booked Robinson in the Vista Detention Facility and charged him with robbery and reckless evading. 1339

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New advertisements against Measure B riled up supporters, who spoke out against the massive development Friday.The commercial states, "Measure B the Newland Sierra project, is a luxury development," something supporters vehemently deny."What I think is disingenuous is making people feel fearful of what can happen in this development," supporter Melinda Vasquez said.Friday, dozens gathered in Kearny Mesa to advocate for Newland Sierra's development project. She is a first generation American (her parents moved from Mexico) and a teacher. She teaches first- and second-graders, and comes home to a 12-month-old."Even though she's a toddler we're going to be expanding soon in the future and we're going to need that space, that affordable space to grow our family," Lopez said she is always budget conscious for her family.The county's existing general plan calls for 99 homes and up to 2,000,000 square feet of commercial property with open space. They said the development will have a spread of apartments for seniors and low low income, affordable town-homes, and individual homes. The highest bracket in the chart showed 1,570 or more. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Wednesday, emotional testimony was read in a downtown courtroom by the husband and wife who were brutally attacked in an economy parking lot outside of the San Diego International Airport. The testimony was read during the sentencing hearing for Alberto Jauregui, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Jauregui appeared to show no remorse. He smirked and smiled at the couple and at our camera. It was last October when police say Jauregui came up to Donna Kashani and husband Robert Bobbett in the parking lot. He reportedly grabbed Kashani by her neck and demanded the keys to their SUV. “You put me in a headlock with a 10-inch knife to my neck and you were dragging me into our SUV and demanding that I get in with you,” Kashani told him and the courtroom.  In a heroic move, Bobbett threw himself in front of her and charged at Jauregui.  “As I rushed toward you, I truly believed I was going to die in this struggle,” Bobbett told Jauregui and the courtroom. He added, “You stabbed me in the chest nearly hitting my heart. All the while [you were] screaming ‘Die, die, die!’”  Bobbett was stabbed six times and nearly died.  Jauregui was caught days later. During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, he told the courtroom, “You guys have made a big mistake by not giving me help. Instead of giving me help, you want to punish me.” He’ll spend the next 13 years in state prison. 1456

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the death of a child at a Tierrasanta home Tuesday.San Diego Police responded to the 3100 Block of Minuteman St. just before 11 a.m. to reports of a four-month-old child not breathing. When paramedics arrived, they began CPR on the infant.First responders were not able to revive the child.Police do not suspect the death to be criminal in nature at this point. However, police said since they are still not sure what led to the baby's death, they are investigating.The child died in a home in a military housing neighborhood.  624
